  • Read about the unbelievable adventures of Dr. Lloyd Miller traveling and performing through the Middle East and beyond by going to the jazzscope website and clicking on Sufi, Saint & Swinger.

  • This is dance from Turbate Jam which in Khorasan, they have many similarities to the heratis of Afghanistan.

  • Actually dances of Khorasan on both sides of the Iranian-Afghan border are similar, Tajik dances are Central Asian done in Tajikistan and some in parts of Uzbekistan. They resemble Uzbek and Uighur dances but not exactly those of Khorasan. Dr. Lloyd Miller

  • So called Iranian Tajik dances. Interesting!

  • zendeh bad torbate jam

  • @SirianKings

You are the only shit here.

  • Ghurshah,

look man !! dont politicize everything !!

We dont have nothing against Iranis or Pakis . Why you guys just can't laeve us in peace. I respect you and i'm expecting the the same from you . How simple is that .

why u guys are so angry with us ??

  • Lol.

  • my point is that i'm not against you. Why u can just calm down ? what is wrong with you people ???

its about the music about the art, just stop beeing politic once en enjoy the music. Okay ? its good for your health.

  • You have a good point. But this hoping, turning and clapping in the center dance called Atan among the Pashtuns, Pathans and other peoples of Afghanistan and parts of Pakistan is done from Uighur East Turkistan and India to Macedonia; many people have this dance including Baluchis and many more. Dr. Lloyd Miller

  • In south khorasan are living alot of baloch and kurd communities.

I think it is a balochi dance or some other ethnics, close to balochis.

  • @KabuliJaaan no this is not baluch/kurid iranian this is parsi/khorasani dance and costum.even ferdosi toosi the writer of biget parsi pet book had this drees in toos(near mashha),this is traditinal dress, dance, music and parsi khorasani .

    im from mashhad khorasan iran.

but ofcource parsi, kurd, baluch have same origin ,of race culture.only dilects are diffrent.

  • @sspersian these people are very triditional very old baluchi traditional clothes even the turbans they are wearing are still worn in baluchistan. look at their shalwars which are loose and like how mordern baluchis wear but a bit different and finaly the dance they do at the end is still performed in baluchistan mostly in zahedan the capital.

  • Dust-a aziz, Ha sa'ib atan bsyar ja peidast. Yes the Atan is found in many places; Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, Central Asia, Turkmenistan, Uyghur East Turkistan, Greece and Macedonia. It may be that Alexander brought it back to Macedonia from Afghanistan or maybe during the Achaemenians or before, it was shared all across the Steppes as well as among Pashtuns. Anyway it doesn't really matter who started the atan first, it is very nice to do and enjoyable to watch. Dr. Lloyd Miller

  • its very close to Attan of afghanistan.

    Typical scythians dance !!!!!!!

  • Dear friends,

We appreciate your comments whatever your beliefs. But from now, we will only allow comments that are not obscene, insulting or abusive. We will remove any remarks against political or cultural entities, persons or groups whether right or wrong, good or bad. We will also remove remarks praising those responsible for cultural genocide through modernization & eradication of arts traditions even if those persons may be widely popular so-called 'artists.' Thank you, Dr. Lloyd Miller

  • Search for Attan. this is another form of attan done only by Afghan race. there are over 19 type of attan and this one seems to be Faryabi or Sistani style of attan. If it truly is from Torbatjam then it should have three tones and 4 steps but the close workout in the middle seems to be either short of Space or local dance. Their clotting are known as "Sherlwar-e-Kamiz" which is an Afghan form of clotting, passed into greater region of India.

  • Ghurshah

what is wrong with you man ??

    Are you oke ??

  • Afghan Race? LOL. Please do not embaress yourself by mistaking politically motivated histories written by Pashtoon nationalists of Afghanistan as being academically correct. There is no such thing as the Afghan race. This dance is an Iranic dance and takes many forms - amongst all Iranic peoples - Pashtuns Kurds Pars - Armenian - Lors - Bakhtars - and Baluch and many more. Afghan simply means NON DEHGAN - i.e non settled person = NOMAD.

  • Salam,

Actually, I am not sure of the exact correct name but usually dohol is the generic title of double headed drums in the Persianculture sphere, anything from the small Georgian type to the large drum layed with the surna or zurna. Dr. Lloyd Miller

  • in the secod part of the video - the Torbat Jam dance - the drum bring played - does anyone know the name of it and any other clips where it is used?

    Thanks

  • Salam,

Yes there is a little more of this kind of dance in our collection. One is from Quchan, I don't know it that is up yet but eventually it will be as well as other things. Dr. Lloyd Miller

  • Thanks Dr. Miller.

  • great piece! Do you have more?
