my gran used to have a hut down saltcoats beach selling beach balls pails and spades ect , i spent my childhood down saltcoats beach , im so proud to be from saltcoats but i realise its a run down town now
saltcoats used to be a great place to go to i used to go there all the time with my family when i was a baby, i went back for the first time in about 17 years last week and i had a lump in my throat. The place is a shadow of its former self. Really upset me actually
This isn't about taking the piss. This song is a nostalgic love story from a time when Saltcoats was what the song suggests. I sing this song to my kids everytime we even get near the coast. There's something so sad about old seaside resorts gone bad. We shouldn't forget that once upon a time they were special to people though, that they have fond memories and that someone, once could gave been the most special. Prettiest thing on Santa Ponsa beach doesn't do it for me.
i love glasvegas. being glaswegian masel its easy to understand their songs, like flowers n football tops. but see wen a saw the title of prettiest thing on saltcoats beach a was pishin masel cause its weird hearin about a place that you know n have been to. and the fact that it is indeed a shithole makes it hilarious :L
Those of you not from Ayrshire are missing something here.
Saltcoats beach is an utter shithole. Anyone who is, like me, from North Ayrshire will tell you as much, and I get the feeling that Glasvegas know that too.
Being called the prettiest thing on that beach isn't much of a compliment.
go write a message in the sand of what you want to say to me ice-cream won't be long now that I'm here with you the glistening sea runs through your hands as you float upon the sparkling sands the setting sun shines on your hair I'm walking on the salty air you are...the prettiest thing on saltcoats beach hand in hand we stare across the oceans waves promise me we'll do this again some day

I saw them in portland, OR, and i dont really like them, i was about to ask for my money back, cause i think they are really bad.
The lights were so brigth that people can't see, they were suppose to play at 10:15 and they appeared 45 minutes latter. The lead singer drunk and drinking beer and they are a parody between The Cure and The Clash (a bad parody).
Go back to scotland and play in bars for 15 dollars a ticket. (That's what i paid to see them) hahahahaha.
That is called rock and roll mate? It's the way music is meant to be, none of your polished corporate bands, they rock up when they feel is the best time, and being pished at a gig, well what a crime! lol.
The lead singer is a weegie, what would you expect him to be other than drunk and drinking beer?
Go and watch Linkin Park if you want rock that is clean enough for children, this is real music my friend! :)
GO listen to some other band then, no one gives a damn about your opinions..
If they are so shit then why did U2, (yes, U2 with bono and the edge) approach Glasvegas asking them to back them up on their tour to Hampden stadium, (glasgow) they are being recognised by the big guns.

Their quite big now Glasvegas, but i just cant get into them. The lead singer annoys me.Wearing those daft big shades all the time.
I dont know if he"s trying to be funny or cool but he just looks like a prick. They"ve got 1 decent song "Daddys gone".And as for this song what a load of SHITE,i thought i would be bious because im scottish but im not.
To all those who don't care about the oil issue: if Scotland was in receipt of her oil and it wasn't spent anywhere but Scotland then the country would be in a much better state. Scotland would be much richer and wouldn't suffer many of the social problems that inform Glasvegas' work. Politics may be boring but it is the only way to create real change in Scotland. It is absurd that Glasgow is one of the poorest cities in the EU and oil-rich Scotland has terrible poverty and health too.
Saltcoats - brown flag beach. Has anything been done about the interesting sewage outfall pipe in recent years? Ha, ha, ha. Saltcoats........ worst of the three toons.

only 3 million people, no industry, loads of unemployment, average life expectacny of 56 in east Glasgow, crap infrastructure....yep, Scotland would do really well on its own.
First of all the population of scotland is around 5 million and has being rising over the past couple of years due to immigration, further more Scotland contributes more to the National purse per head than England does. There are parts of the Uk with life expentancy as low as 48 and they're outwith Scotland, when you look at it in relative terms Scotland is actually not to bad. At the end of the day you clearly have your opinion and I have my own, lets just enjoy Glasvegas and not talk Politics.
Fair point, I was only jesting! Although I would be interested to see your evidence for your claims - where is the 48 year life expectancy in England? And where is your evidence to show that the Scots contribute more? In fact, my understanding was that uni fees, old age care etc are paid for by Westminster, not Scots, but this doesn't apply in England. Due to its size (nothing more) England (and London) clearly dominates the UK at an economic level, I'm afraid that's just the way it is.
Certain areas in the big English cities, just google it. Due to North Sea oil an independant Scotland would be able to finance all of the benefits you talk of, England could also afford these things however they have never voted for it, parties and politicians have put such policies in Manafestos ect. End of the day I rate Evan Davis highly as an economics expert and he believes Scottish Nationalism would work.
Basing your argument on North Sea oil is precarious since it will run out! In any case, I doubt that an entire country could run off North Sea oil. These kind of statements sound good, but are worth little when broken down. Scotland would survive on EC handouts, which is what Ireland and other smaller countries do. Economic experts all disagree which each other, it's just a case of which expert you quote. Give me an example of a "google" search that proves your point and I'll check it.
Nonsense. There's 50-100 years left of oil. Scotland would be one of the richest countries in the world per head and would not need EU structural funding at all. English economists Grant Thornton just this year published a report stating Scotland would be 4.4 billion in surplus this year if independent. The future's so bright for Scotland no wonder Glasvegas are wearing shades ;-)
Ownership of the oil is not in the hands of "Scotland", which constitutionally, notwitstanding devolution, is still part of the UK and governed, ultimately, by Westminster anyway. The rights to source and sell the oil wholesale are in the hands of companies which are either listed or privately limited - but either way I am not sure how your argument works. Scotland doesn't own the rights to the oil. Your argument is very general and your "facts" open to deconstruction.
In international law as part of both the 1968 Jurisdiction Act and Scotland Act 1998 the UK sector of the N Sea was split into Scottish and English sectors. 90% of current oil + gas revenues are within the Scottish sector. In addition, they can be repealed at any point by a later act. So if Westminster wished to do so for economic reasons, it would merely pass an act repealing the former statutes and amend the split of the oil.
