  • We'll be playing this and this will be awesome on 1rst part on sax.

  • woo!!! the 1000th comment!!! Love this song. We are about to play it

  • Nice

  • Played the trumpet and 2:30-3:30 will never leave my head. Such a great piece might pick up my trumpet again!!

  • 10 people must have no taste in music

  • i play trumpet and i luv this song!!!!!!!!! :D

  • This is the most boring song to play for Tuba and String Bass.

  • 2:10 I am now going to beg my band teacher for this song now that I've heard that bass clarinet and flute part. (I'm one of her bass clarinetists) I have a pretty good chance of getting that solo, since I'm forst chair and my band teacher appears to be obsessed with Robert W. Smith.

  • 1:10 the DAH! scared the crap out of me.

  • Playing the bassoon part is a little difficult on trombone for this song lol. But it's one of the best parts I've played

  • I did this in 7th grade. Flutes ftw. & tubas lol cuz I now play tuba too along with flute in concert band XD

  • played this in county band and as a trumpet its one of the best pieces i have played

  • Flute<3

  • we played this in band..... SO EPIC!!!!!!

  • And its not that heavy

  • @crispyyjerry the bari sex isnt the biggest the conchrabass is

  • @Dragonfangg *contrabass...

  • I can remember preforming this, lemme tell ya, going from 3/4 -> 4/4 -> 16/16 while marching is a pain

  • @darthnecromancy im playing sax on it NOW!

  • 1st clarinet for the win, i remember playing this song and it was fucking orgasmic

  • I played French Horn on this song a few years ago. Still one of my favorite songs I played to this day.

  • I played Bari Sax on this song. I love it!

  • @darthnecromancy Wow, is it heavy. I know its the biggest sax.

  • @CrispyyJerry It's about 20 - 25lbs (I think) of brass hanging around your neck, but it's not bad. Check out a band called The Nuclear Whales, they have both a Bass Sax and a Contrabass Sax. Also do a YouTube search on Sub Contrabass Sax.

  • 0:46-1:10 Clarinet Part is stuck in my head!

  • The hardest part is switching from 3/4 to 4/4

  • Playing the sax in this song makes you feel like a BOSS

  • i play the flute and my school is doing the song "into the storm" but when the solo comes i can`t do it. (at the begin!) what should i do?

  • Comment removed

  • And was that clarinet playing the duet with the flute?

Bless their soul if it was.

  • @Greyuke The bass clarinet and flute have that solo

  • This is so slow.

  • @Greyuke Not really

  • I'm playing trombone on this song

  • @JacksonBrosniff Trombone rules guy! :)

  • I played this my tenth grade year in orchestra on horn, great piece....stupid eight notes

  • This song was so much fun to play. By far my favorite. I actually know how to play every percussion part on this piece (overacheiver)

  • Percussion FTW.

  • does anyone play trombone?????

  • @MyCheesecake13 I play Cymbals, Bells/Xylophone and I'm a beginner in Tenor Saxophone

  • @MyCheesecake13

I do! i've been playing it for a year or two now. i just got this piece, it looks pretty easy.

  • Grade 3 music.

  • @jonlin1000 No itz not, middle school music

  • When I heard this I shrieked in happiness and yelled "Hey, look its my part on the sax!" My language arts teacher gave me a funny look (so did the rest of the class) and I sat back down XD

  • This song got so ez my friends use it as a warm up lol

  • @Axillet umm, if your serious, you must be in a bad band. Warm ups are suppose to be helpful and allow you to practice scales and different play styles/keys. This song does not help with either. I recommend chorales

  • Was this in the movie catagorey 6?

  • I play bass clarinet solo with flute :D

  • btw i felt so badass playin sax..lol

  • we played this my senior year and got all 1s at concert contest!

  • I heard this was based off of Robert W. Smith's experience with a series of blizzards in the northern U.S. during the early 90's.

  • I'm playing this song in band. I play first Trumpet. It's kindof hard, but not to hard!!!

  • Im playing this song in my band right now. The 1st clarinet is pretty hard but not impossible.

  • i play mallets (bells/xylo) on this...i have to tell u. wen the song is over, my forehead is wet. BUT GAWD THIS SONG. IMA MARRY IT! >:U luvluvluv

  • @CourtneyMerp Me 2, luv this song, gotta luv the ending

  • I play this in my orchestra, and it sounds so much better with the string instruments, especially the cellos

  • I'm playing this song tomorrow (1-25-12). Wish me luck everyone. GO SOUTH POINTE MIDDEL SCHOOL!!!

  • I think the Alto Saxophone, Bells, 1st Clarinet and French Horn have the more diffuclt part.

  • @CrispyyJerry Agree completely. I play clarinet. We're playing this for festival this year.

  • @iRrock13 Bass?, 1st?, 2nd?, 3rd? Clarinet

  • @CrispyyJerry Also the Bass Clarinet

  • @CrispyyJerry i play that :P

  • @CrispyyJerry Actually, the second clarinet part is more difficult than the first. My band is playing this song and I have said part. Also, the flute part is a really difficult thing, with all those different notes going by so fast. But other than that, I think you're right.

  • @DanielleJ1021 Oh Yea, I forgot the flute part, my friend plays Flute and he has NO breaks at all....... unlike the bells(which I play), we get breaks alot

  • @CrispyyJerry I play Alto Saxophone and yes it is pretty difficult but very fun to play :)

  • Mastered this in 1-2 days. Yay!

  • Sounds pretty in the end, like at 4:00

  • This piece is about a blizzard in the US somewhere I believe

  • Comment removed

  • LOL, I got this song today and i was like WTF.! I have the xylophone/bells part. That has too many sixteenth notes to be dealing, hope my arms doesn't hurt......

  • Playing this song for Marching Band! :D But it's gonna be re-written and a lot faster!

  • We are playing this song and I have the xylophone melody and I've memorized it already and we got it Wednesday

    Go Percussion!!!

  • I'm playing this Wednesday (go drums and such) and I'm in 7th grade! EAT IT!!!

  • The only thing I don't like about my favorite composer Robert Smith, is that most of his music pieces are for lower grades.

  • We are playing this in band. (Go FRENCH HORNS) But the rhythm is hard to figure out at first.)

  • I remember playing this like 3-4 years ago. French Horn! :P

  • played this freshmen year :) go flutes! :) and the piccolo solo :)

  • we play in the orchestra its soooo good to play

  • the description says that it almost sounds like the music is telling story.. that's because it is. This was inspired by the blizzard of '93 that hit Tennessee and Georgia. It's describing the ferocity and the pureness of a snow storm. I have to say that I am glad I got to play this, but very regretful that I didn't give the song the practice time it deserved and it showed in my school's performance.

  • i love the bass clarinet parts for this

  • My favorite song that I played in 8th grade. I was a beast on the french horn solo (:

  • @Team3229 What horn solo? THERE'S NO SOLO IN MY PART D: (I have first....)

  • We played this for an ajudication my senior year! Loved it... We took the tempo a lot quicker because it wasn't that hard of a piece for my band. I loved it! I was first chair clarinet that year, too. Totally rocked it. :)

  • I played this song when i was in 7th grade back in 2004. The flute part was too repetitive, but at least it had movement. totally rocked that solo on piccolo ;)

  • For all of you amazed people, this song is about the great storm of 1993 that swept across almost all of the US.

  • We're playing this for our next band concert. We all love it~! :D

  • Just got this piece for senior concert band. 1st trombone is surprisingly boring >.> except for 137 :P

  • @Shordanna20 we played this last year for 7th grade

  • my band sucks at playing this though except for trumpets

  • @number1yugihofan vice versa for us

  • i play trumpet and i get to play this

  • Playing this song now. It's gonna be great :]

  • anybody know where i can get sheet music?

  • This piece is about the blizzard of 1993. I played this with my high school concert band back in the '90s.

  • Loved this song but I play alto sax and my director tells us "No breathing between your 8th notes, only during the rests". Ending 8th notes you hear the whole section inhale at once XD

  • @AquilonIII we are playing that now and i play alto sax...those 8th notes kill u slowly

  • @AquilonIII same here

  • @AquilonIII Oooh I play alto sax too! My band played this at a concert and I fell in love with the song (high fives and plays on sax like crazy)

  • @missdeathknight13579 ALTO SAX IS THE BEST!

  • @wazakookko I'm playing Tenor Sax

  • altos first pages a torture loved playing this in wind ensemble

  • i love this song, the alto sax part has a million g eighth notes, but we also have a trill! our trumpets cant play the middle brass part right to save their lives though

  • Love this song .playin first trumpet in my 8th grade band but love woodwind part 1:10 to 1:20

  • Johnson Jr High School

  • Noice

  • I love this song. I played this at my school Christmas concert. I play percussion:)

  • i cried first time i heard this

  • @Rock2beats Orly? SAME HERE :D

  • i played this today at my concert:)

  • When I first got this song, I was hoping for a big bass part. Too bad, we are practically useless in this.

  • It sounded like there were a few measures from incantations in it

  • Our band is playing this song this year for our spring concert. :)

  • @harripoddur our band is too

  • Bass clarinet solo ftw

    BASS CLARINET FOREVER!!

  • @indiesnes64 This person knows where it is at.

    Bass Clarinet for life.

  • I played this in all county several years ago and also 2 years ago and Robert W. Smith was the conductor. We also played many of his other songs it was great! =) Im playing it now with my high school band. Its my all time favorite song. Go french horns ;)

  • @italian2497 OMFG, that's what my dream band experience would be!

  • this is the first song i ever learned how to play on flute

  • @yasminload63 was it hard?

  • @TheSpiritOfRadio1974 a little at first but its easy after some practice. flute is the hardest part and i got the hang of it

  • one of the reasons i stayed in band since 7th grade was so i could play this song, and now we're not even playing it this year! trumpets FTW!!!!!!!!!!

  • :) I just read through the comments, and everyone's so proud of their own instrument - and as dangerous as this is, I have to say - STRINGS RULE.

  • Cool, this is probably the real version? I play cello, and we're doing this but as a full orchestra arrangement. This is really cool, I love this piece.

  • Im currently playing this in wind ensemble (band) (bass clarinet all the way! :D) and it's really fun to do

  • Pretty Cools. I play Alto Sax with 3 other guys and the 6th graders in my school played "The Temptest" which is pretty much the same. The person who's great great great great great great great great grandfather wrote Jingle Bells (Someone Pierpoint)

  • How to make a RWSmith song:

    1. Slow woodwind feature or solo

    2. Add a fanfare with boosting speed

    3. Rise up sequences with a break and create a second part of a song

    4. Start with low brass and add more instruments sequentially

    5. Create a pseudo Coda and recapitulate

    6. Give it a generic title based on the theme of tone throughout main phrases

    7. Copy it at a vastly different level, the opposite of the original, change articulation and tone motives, and you have two songs by Robert W. Smith

  • @Chadv0 pretty much.

  • @jlvyn13 Yeah, I know him pretty well and love quite a few of his pieces, but I can't help but rip on him for recycling so much, lol.

  • My band director buys so many pieces of music from Robert he calls him Bobby.... I play saxophone in this.... Its so hard!

  • @WaltersNetwork While this is a great piece, there is much more difficult band literature out there.

  • The story is about a blizzard that the Upper Peninsula of Michigan faced quite a few years ago.

  • I play this song in band, and I play the amazing bass part! It so much fun!

  • go piccolo solo!!! XD

  • This is on orchestra too. Sounds great both ways

  • OH WOOOOOOW i still remember this. it still gives me chills. 1st clarinet ALL DAY baby!!!!

  • When I heard the beginning I thought it was Scenes From an Ocean Voyage which I'm playing this year on the oboe.

  • I loved playing this last year. Some of it was really hard. (flute) LIke at 0:35

Also the reason hwy he wrote this was cool :)

(for those who don't know, he was caught in a storm and so he composed this. It starts out pretty and calm and then it gets fast and sort of hetic {not right word} and then calm again. Like a storm.)

  • My band director has a score of this song sighned by Robert W. Smith.

  • @SixStringGuitarist1 Your band director is a privileged man.

  • @0SukMunky0 Very. Its dedicated to the Roswell High band.

  • @0SukMunky0 i met Robert W. Smith when i was in 8th grade, and got to shake his hand, he actually worked with my schools band when i was in 8th grade, he came for an all city concert as a guest conductor

  • @0SukMunky0 I AGREE

  • @0SukMunky0 or women

  • @SixStringGuitarist1 At all state Mr.Smith was my band director

  • @TheClarinetist2009 You are lucky person.

  • Timpani!

  • I play euphonium and iv'e played this piece, but really man this song deserves more power from trombone over concert euphonium. The thing is, euphonium is "sweet sound" trombone is strong and more powerful than what I play. So all the power to ya trombones!

  • pfffffff tromebones all the way man duhhhhhh

  • Sorry but, woodwinds make this song. Woodwinds kick brass :p

  • @kaulitzroom483 They may have the melody, but low brass (aka tuba, baritone, etc.) are the most important instruments. Without us, you wouldn't have a base line, and it would sound horrible in A LOT of songs. People totally under-mind us. But we really ARE the most important instruments!

    -A tuba player

(P.S. Trombone AND trumpet have a big part in this, and they're brass!)

  • @ohanamaggie We would have a baseline, as long as there are base and contrabass clarinets. or contrabass saxes. Which are still woodwinds! We're more diverse in sound. We can have soprillo lines, all the way to contrabass.

  • TROMBONES RULE!!!!

  • Ah. I remember playing something that I can not remember. I think it was tenor or tambourine. I remember for sure playing that gong part. Fun stuff!

  • French Horns for the win!

(Background solo heard throughout the entire song!)

  • 1st trumpet is pain in the ass

  • Playing this in band right now =)

  • tenor sax here!

  • @me6939 Bass clarinet does sound good, especially with a trombone.

  • i got to play with rond rock symphony this song rocks go viola!!

  • Sounds so pretty on flutes <3 my instruament

  • @TheHagiophobic Flutes make this piece sound amazing. The trills and that one repetitive part could only be pulled off by a flute. Everything else could too, but those are STRICTLY flute parts. ;)

  • clarinets... <3

  • oh ya Euphonium/Baritone beats all -.- enough said.

  • played this song in 7th grade. still one of my favorite pieces.

  • i love robert w smith <3 love the french horn features :)

  • I played Tambourine on this song, lol my wrist hurt like crazy after this song!

  • i love tenor sax cause i used to play but my dad kicked me out of band cause he hates music I HATE HIM! =( i really want to play music like this

  • @quillfish2

Y WOULD UR DAD DO THAT!?!?

  • We just started this song today in band and it's already amazing!!! I play piccolo so, yea, it's awesome.

  • 5:33 though...
