What I recall and clearly is that this was the official video that came out on M.T.V. when M.T.V. was nothing but videos. Hell of a song for all including drummers looking for a good drum cover song. This video from what I recall was recorded live at the Summit in Houston, TX. which I do not think even exists anymore.
Comparing her to Stevie or Debbie is downright crazy. I adore those two women, however, they are TERRIBLE live. Years of drug abuse has damaged their vocal talents. If you're gonna compare Cyndi to anyone, compare her to someone in her league, like Pat Benatar. Classically trained in Opera, has a killer rock voice, and is SICK live!
The rapid fire "mo-neh" is one of the dumbest noises I've ever heard from a human being, let alone a professional singer. Ergo, one of the dumbest songs I've ever heard because of the recurring noises from the singer.
Is there a grammy or something for best performance in a live recording? Because this would have won. One of the best of the whole era. I love how her real, more powerful voice, pops up in this song. This song alone was worth the ticket price.
@abingdon66 I don't know what you mean by "not exactly Stevie Nicks or Debbie Harry, but she did have style". She had WAY more than just style. She has incredible talent and vocal, and a certain undefineable quality. She's way up there shoulder-to-shoulder with the greats of the music industry, including but not limited to Stevie Nicks and Debbie Harry. Get a clue.
I just wasted an hour watching the young artistsof today against the likes of Cyndi and early Mariah and other 80s, 90s divas and those young autotune lip synching wanna be divas need to seriously need to learn how to sing live if they want to stand the test of time.. sorry Rihanna, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga fans, I too am a fan but the proof is undeniable!! check the vids!!!
I burst out laughing when she flew over the audience in a trash can. Still a great performance though. Wow, real instruments. I remember the days when bands actually played.
@Markus77x7 dont be such a snob, the 80s gave us kylie and madonna who cant sing, every decade snobs say the past was better, they said it in the 80s and they say it now, dull.....
Thank you for posting this video even thou I've seen it more then 100 times i still like it. The best thing ever happened to music was CYNDI LAUPER

I've always liked this video. I haven't seen it since the 80s (on MTV). Not exactly Stevie Nicks or Debbie Harry, but she did have a style.
