  • i want a beer o.o

  • Wow, excellent...

  • I had heard of player pianos... those that don't require a pianist to actually play the piano... Now I see they have come out with a player mandolin. It played the last few bars of the reel for you Dan, that is so cool... where can I get one of those?

  • @bjograsshopper

Somehow the A/V sync got lost when youtube convered from the camera format I used :-) I have another recording of the same set uploaded that doesn't suffer from the same issue though!

  • im from ireland and i like that music very much,i hear in the us and a for cultural journeys

  • awesome video sir. Was wondering if you had any advice for someone looking to learn more celtic standards on mandolin and guitar. I know how to play the insturnments, i just wanted to know of maybe some good songs or tab sites. i would greatly appreciate it.

  • @hamdigidy

if you search on "ABC music" you'll find many good libraries of tunes. The best way to learn is to find a good session to listen in on, and listen to as many recordings as you can. It's mostly "aural", learned by ear, and nothing can really beat a good teacher or session!

  • tabs will be great

  • Wow that is super!! What a fine Mandolin!! Great play!!!

  • Now that is how pussy is obtained.

  • @44Daddy44 :

    Ahahahah!

    *deep breath*

    Ahahahah!

  • is that tune called the silver spear?

  • @sonofsatchmo : Not these two.. Someone told me "Maids of Castlebar" for the first.. even though I've heard "Johnny Doherty's" as an alternate for the first.. JD was a great Donegal player, and many tunes bear his name if folks can't remember the title.. Second is "The Wise Maid"

  • @DanBeimborn : Oh right ta. Awesome playing, awesome mandolin... =) =)

  • Absolutely amazing!!

  • You play faster than sound!! I love the tone of that instrument.

  • ilikefluffycow: a quick up/down/up or down/up/down. Some of them are done with a normal down/up picking rhythm and a hammer-down or pull-off in the middle.

After the first 3-4 years of doing them they become fairly automatic, it's mostly muscle memory!

  • fucking triplets, how do they work?

    Great job here

  • Very Cool !!! Gibson History !

  • Wow! How do you do that? I'm in awe.

  • What's the name of this one?

  • Johnny Doherty's/wise maid

  • im jealous of your playing, and the mandolin!

  • Love your playing and your cd's. That F-4 is incredible--one of the best two sounding ones on youtube.

  • To WObb1344, If your comment is true which I seriously doubt, then the pupil has far surpassed the master. Great picking and wow, hat triplets.

  • fuck i thought i was good (dont judge me by my vids please) but holy shit dude, 5/5

  • That's a really beautiful mandolin.

    Your playing does it justice.

  • Good hands, good mandolin too!

  • Nice Mando!! And nice play. Thanks for the show..

  • friggin amazing, beautiful playing with a BEAUTIFUL mandolin! fantastic!

  • omg id sooooo do this guy just coz he plays so well. and im a straight male.

  • Now what did you have to do that for! (<:

I am going to put my mandolin back in the case for a month!

Lovely picking! You have set a wonderful standard to work for. It is pretty amazing but those triplets are approaching the same speed as a fiddle cut -- I have pretty fast hands but I don't see how you can do it!

You can't beat the sound of those old Gibson -- lovely torch and fire inlay!

  • Fantastic !

  • I taught him that

    /sarcasm

  • haha. 100 years old. sweet playing as well as mandolin. i just got my gibson f-4 from '13. very fun indeed.

  • If that really is a 1909 Gibson then that mandolin is worth a shitload.

  • this is such a beautiful mandoline!! woow.. where do u get this one? awesome realy! i want to learn that but theres no one who could show me.. how did u learn it?

  • that was baller!! i gota get me a mandolin

  • 1909 and it STILL sounds amazing.

  • Ca. 1909 is WHY it sounds amazing.

To the OP, great job, beautiful instrument.

  • Pssshh looks like he's never played mandolin before.

    /sarcasm

  • you're a badass.

  • Bravo !!!

  • Excellent. I just got a mandolin as a 40th bday gift. Can't wait to be able to play a bit.

  • Yea I watched the other videos of this guy and he seems to have no reason to make this up. That's some mighty fine mandolinery you got there.

  • Great-sounding mandolin, more tunes please.

  • I´ve watched this sooo many times and it just gets better and better!

  • so... was the audio and video off or was he just pooling my leg

  • There was a sync problem.. I was using a digicam that gets a nice picture but audio seems to drop

  • re lack of "synchronisation" - I think it's a youtube problem as well - I find it happens on a lots of vids - the pic comes through slower than the sounds ...

Bloody fast playing there, beautiful, thanks!!

  • So! That is what DanB looks like without Photoshop?

    Nice playing there.

  • Woah! What a blast that mandolin is! Looks like Everett Lilly's one :) Nice job!

  • You should be very happy to own such a wonderful mandolin.

  • Hi, nice technique and very nice old Gibson instrument!!!

  • Its always good to have another career to fall back on. Is that the waiting room at global switch?

    Sounds great !

  • Wicked Job! sounded Great

  • Were you pick synching? haha! Very nice tune, well done. I like the mandoline, it looks great.

  • Very nice pickin'!

  • audio/video sync-up got lost in translation :)

  • if you play fast enough it takes the mandolin a few minutes to catch up

  • lol... great playing.. I recently bought a mandolin after seeing the Song The Blacksmith... Know of any good websites where I can learn celtic music on the mandolin?

  • Looking good Dan! I'm most curious about your technique though. The ability to make notes come out of that mandolin even after you've stopped playing is amazing! --Jim
