  • so

    fonky

  • The studio version is all slow-boiling tension, and this version is all explosive soloing. And both versions are fantastic.

  • Bad f'n Ass...dayum

  • "The real King James at his best and I don't mean LeBron!"

  • Yes it is FUNKY!!!

  • You can tell that James love Bootsy and Fred Westley because they could groove and that was what he was all about... check out his organ solo...It wasn''t technically impressive but it was a groove

  • @nickeyparadise I agree. That was a great comment

  • @nickeyparadise .. I agree! And if one can't hear the funk in that, then they're missing the whole point. They should just listen to ABBA and be content. ;)

  • jb screwed up the jam on the keys, ouch...

  • This is fantastic.

  • what a power, what a passion.

    nothing to say but respect.

  • Look at that NASTY bass face @ 3:54! What a cruiser...

  • was Catfish Collins related to Bootsy Collins?

  • @MagicDexter68 Yes, they're brothers.

  • God bless James Brown, Lynn Collins, Bobby byrd, catfish

  • This is God's favorite music.

  • I am so glad I saw this video, now I understand how awsome Catfish was may he R.I. P. This music will never die with people like Tony Wilson continuing to honor James Brown.

  • The JB's where an incredible groove machine

  • Damn, just found out Phelps "Catfish" Collins has passed away... an incredible musician who never got the recognition he deserved.

  • Rest in funky pease catfish

  • Merci Karim!!!!

  • best band of all time

  • I'm with the time machine people. ;)

  • good god that's a funky sneer @ 3:56, maybe he was thinkin of walkin up to the mic & sayin this watch?v=KmNegOg6dOM

  • This Man was Brilliant!

  • BOOOOTSEH

    BOOOOOTSEH

  • Classic James Brown and the JB's--they don't write 'em like that anymore. Excellent solo work by ALL--it's "reach in your gut" funk!

  • CATFISH WAS JAMMIN

  • That's Bootsy's Collins brother on lead guitar and Bootsy on Bass.

  • JBS GBEFIKCKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Whole band is stellar. For my money tough, this six minutes belongs to Catfish. I don't think he's got the recognition he deserves.

  • look at this guy with that funny hairstyle in his suit and his ugly tie. And look at the bad quality of this old black and white footage... The music is the thing that is good for ever.

  • Awsome.

  • This very True...

  • What scale was he using or mode?

He created a great tension against the

harmonic structure of the underlaying groove...and to see Bootsie( hahahaha!)

sooo young and obviously enjoying the hell out of the experience of playing with the Godfather( imagine touring with that band and your just a kid still? I'm jealous)

    Thanks for posting this GEM!!!

  • They call that the American "Blues" scale.

  • @clarkewi he was being wayyyy more primitive than that bro...he was in the moment

communing with the spirit...look at him!

  • Brown was a "Shaman" no doubt about that. I think that's why blues took a while to become mainstream in America. Let's not forget, America started as a Puritan colony. That mindset is still a big part of their character. It took guys like Brown to help change America which is great. But really there's too much degeneration in American culture now. This video is great, but some of the rap like Eminem is pure evil. Voodoo is very powerful, needs to be handled with care! God Bless!

  • YeahhhHHH! Soul Brother Number One!!

  • Awesome Upload!!

    Cheers!!

  • Bootsy! yeah!

  • What's interesting here is that Mr. Brown changed the arrengement of this song for his live show almost immediately after the single was released! the horn riff in particular is different than the original studio recording.

  • Did not know James Brown could hit the keybords...!!!!! He's funky even on the orgue. ^^

  • He sounds like Jimmy Smith!

  • @clarkewi The organ solo JB does is my favorite part. :)

  • bootsy collins on bass

  • jAmEs BrOOwn this is THE BEST FUNKY MUSIC YOU NOW ? a right yéééé a right now common !!!!! c encore mieu que papa the rollings stone!!

  • I wish I had a time machine.

  • As Arsenio Hall used to say, "This is Locker Room Funk!" James and his JBs are the funkiest band in the land!!!

  • This does NOT get any better.

    PEACE

  • KarimH75 mon frère où t'as trouvé ce joyau ? Fais moi croquer !!! :)

  • @Nehesy Can you please get someone to translate your statement in English. My French is quite limited. Did you know that the man playing the guitar ( Phelps "Catfish" Collins passed away this past August.)

  • @charles121251 , I didn't know about Catfish RIP. About my statement in french, nothing serious I asked to Karim where he found this jewell (all video concert), and could we arrange to pass it to me :)

  • The best JB's orchestra is between 70/71.You can find this Live on the CD "Love Power Peace".

James brown and the JB's were great : Hot pants road ; Get up get into it get involved; Soul Power; Superbad, Blues & pants, Escape Ism, Talking loud and saying nothing....

These guys had power. I loved Bobby Byrd RIP : I know you got soul, Sayin it and doin it.

    Vicki Anderson, Lynn Collins.

Nowadays It's over we'll never have this kind of music anymore.ONLY GARBAGE...

  • Damn, I did knew it was goin to stop and then when it did I Piss -off. I got caught just that quick.

  • You better play that Hammond B3 Organ James. lol Also didn't know that Bootsy Collins played in James Brown's Band wow that's Hot. You Better play that Bass Bootsy!!!!lol

  • AAAH FUNKGASM TURN IT LOOSE MR GODFATHER! AINT IT FUNKY!

Huh Bootsy and Catfish got some maaad funky solos! thanks a lot for this piece!

  • I could listen to brother Catfish's funky solo all day.

  • You mean his eyebrows?

  • Sick Sick Sick...Thank you for posting this :), daaamnn. 3:38 will make you cry...period.

  • This is a masterpiece

  • EPIC!

  • BOOTSY!

  • YEAH!!

  • JAMES BROWN BROKE THE 60's GOGO ERA THATS WHY HE'S THE KING OF SOUL!!

  • This man had the sickest bands ever.

  • need 6 stars for this!!! not 5

  • That is the only time I've seen James Brown play piano. And I've seen him at least 6 times in person back in the 60's. He's BAD! Bootsy was a bad mother, shut yo mouth on the bass. His brother was very good too. I never realized they were brothers. James is da man and always will be. You can't top him, in my eyes, no matter what you sing or play.. He is the king of R&B. Without him, there would be no rappers.

  • There would of always been Rap music, and that's thx to the likes of The Black Poets ;)

But i know where you are coming from, No James, no samples.....

  • Thats deep aphex 187

  • There were the Collins brothers (Catfish and Bootsy) BTW, What a trombone solo!

  • This is one of the best videos I 've seen on youtube. I got chills when the GFOS got on the organ.

  • RIGHT!!!! When I was 9yrs old James Brown did a concert at Memorial Field in Mount Vernon NY I live with My Foster Mother Mary Treadwell( God bless that great Lady) and My brothers, myself and other neighborhood kids worked setting up the sitting and at the soundcheck james played the organ, A great gentleman and he showed us such warmth and concern as we worked for him he made me proud to be "Black" this was 3-4 yrs before this video we need men like him again, he never bent over for nobody...

  • Comment removed

  • Damn, this improves the amazing original. Phenomenal band. Drums are ill, and the trombone solo is out of this planet

  • Thank GOD for youtube! I found REAL MUSIC like this! And taken away from the contamination and epidemic of Souljaboys INFECTIOUS GARBAGE MUSIC! JAmes Brown you're my hero, idol, mentor and I salute you. As well as Bootsy and Phelps. This is just magical, amazing and all the positive and nice words I'll give it to this video!:) Simply awesome! We love you here in the Philippines James Brown, Bootsy and Phelps!:)

  • Hard to believe that people made music that sounded like this what with the current trend of pure garbage that litters the airwaves and pollutes the Top40.....

  • Be Happy you to live hear

and know what good Black music

  • BOOTSAAAAY!!!

  • JB was really lovin' this band.

  • catfish is a baaaaaaad dude,

    first here then in rubberband.

  • Sick Trombone solo!

  • When I'm feeling a little down I put this on.. It always works........

  • THIS is absolutely INCREDIBLE!

  • un des grands sommets de James Brown !!! Génial !!

  • This is the best of James Brown. I've seen him in the 60's, at his peak, when he was in his 20's. He was a bad mother, shut yo mouth this night. Bootsy Collins was primo.. In case others don't know, Bootsy went on to be the guitarist for the Parliments with George Clinton. Fred Wesley is a premier horn player. Maceo wasn't focused on this video, but he is a another "bad, shut yo mouth" player.

  • guitarist could've given it a rest a bit sooner, great bone tho', must've sounded unbeleivable at the do

  • Perfect performance. I love them all!

  • The orginial master piece of soul

  • This is lightning in a bottle. Nothing like it was heard before James did this kind of music and many imitations have come since then. And Bootsy was what - like 18 or 19 in this? This is a once in a lifetime display!

  • Listen to gear shifts of Catfish. It's like a racing bike on a desert highway with no end.

  • The best is when the band kicks it on a dime and goes into 'Brother Rapp' - There must be a full unedited version of this concert somewhere !

  • @Phunkville: It's been on YT several times, but unfortunately it gets removed for copyright reasons. That transition is indeed fantastic and the groove and mood of the songs magical, like everything I've seen from this concert, so far!

  • Undoubtly one of James best concert ever.

Phelps doesn't do the same funky shit every night: he MF improvises: dig the solo bro...

How many centuries before a other James?

  • Centuries you ask/? Is never going to be other James Brown, the energy he injects to the band is all base in respect.. is truly amazing !!

    the best always and ever.

  • frikkin' awesome
