  • "Learn how to say Bon Iver. Or Bonnie Bear will kill you." BEST. COMMERCIAL. EVER.

  • Eau Claire is my hometown...next time I'm home from college I want to know where this inspirational cabin is!

I need some of that inspiration and hope for myself!

  • @BonIverSUCKS such trolling effort... by such a fag.

  • I feel we've all gone through that "pain" he talks about. But he may be one of the only people who's found an effective way to deal with it. As he says "dig it out to the oxygen so it can burn and leave". I feel like this album is his way of showing us how he made the pain leave......

    just a thought

  • @BonIverSUCKS Are You emma?

  • He is a beautiful, gorgeous, breath taking human being.

  • @BonIverSUCKS Sounds like someone is jealous.

  • WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD BREAK JUSTIN VERNON'S HEART GOD DAMN

  • Man, he seems like a nice guy.

  • I wonder how early this was filmed... 2008, maybe?

  • Seeing him in october. i cannot wait.

  • @trinika99 i'm seeing him july 28th in atlanta :P so pumped

  • Seeing him in August! A six hour drive for me. Soo worth it :)

  • He is such an inspiration to me

  • I hope one day to see him live.

  • @LuvLifeLuvFwends I'm going to NY to see him in August. It's about a 3 hour drive from my house.. That's like, the one out of two places hes playing this year... =/

  • what type of guitar does he use

  • i cry every time @ 3:34 without question. never heard i voice that could do that to me. never stop making music justin :'}

  • I love him.

  • My god, you can hear his voice?! he's talking with mega bass, and he can sing so high.. amazing

  • I'm pretty much in love this man, he doesn't even need to brush his hair.

  • Justin, I love you.

You make me proud to be from Wisconsin.

  • Sorry, but this needs to be let out: He's so hot.

I mean really, is it even necessary for him to be so beautiful when he's the most talented musician the world has ever given us?

  • What a stud.

  • justin, bro, ocme your hair

  • @funkmeimfamous he doesn't need to comb it.

  • justin, bro, come your hair

  • whoever that girl is...she must feel pretty stupid by now. what a sexy motherfucker

  • brother's got soul

  • can you imagine if someone else had bought the guitar?...

  • @curious11440 - piss off you twat!

  • What is the guitar called?

  • @Supergoblindk it's an old silvertone dobro.

  • amazing person!

  • He's a cool fucker. Old head on young shoulders. And you wouldn't think he'd have such a deep voice!

  • The amazing thing to me is you can know this about him just by listening to the album. You know he means it. After about two or three listens I had tears rolling down, just barely starting to pick up on the lyrics, and I could just feel what he was feeling when he wrote this. Amazing shit...I'm a cynical bastard when it comes to music, but this is real as it gets. Thank you, man. You made me like music again.

  • I sang a cappella Justin Vernon/Bon Iver music with strangers when I was on Water Street in Eau Claire, WI last weekend with people. Not too bad singing a little Bon Iver on the street he likely spent the weekends on in his college years.

  • he aint indie, he's folk... man!

  • @youngaikidoka He's indie because he's Independent.

  • There are no words for how much respect I have for this man.

  • I'm so sad I missed him at Sasquatch now :(

  • that guitar is wankable

  • I have been watching this religiously for about a year now.

    perfect.

  • Amazing! Uma historia assim nao se pode ignorar. Temos um musico com coraçao.

  • I love that he's deep and emotional yet still comes across so normal. There's too many cliches and stereotypes in music and the world these days so it's so good to see someone so genuine.

  • His music is just amazing! It just brings up all kinds of emotions in you.

  • man, even the way he talks in normal conversation is poetic... the guy's amazing..

  • i love the way he makes you feel as if he knows you, and your personal situation.

  • yeah well you might have been in some classes with him, but i am from the same town as him.

  • This man is perfect!

  • i got it now..i need to create a god-like indie record to finally forget that bitch ;D

  • that's usin' yer noodle.

  • @oldchilltortoise That's what I am thinking but my singing sucks @ss!!! :)

  • @jtuner77 its not all about the voice. bob dylan's voice wasnt all that great. its more about the message you have to share.thats the most important thing.

  • my god, everything he says/writes is so well put together.

  • anyone know the exact model of his guitar?

  • @monsieurgrunt i'm fairly certain it's a silvertone... can't tell much about it from the video alone but it might be an archtop. i don't think they sell for much anymore.

  • @symfernus About the guitar.. Does anyone know if he has tuned down the guitar one step compared to the album version? It sure sounds like it. Sounds great though

  • @Olleax19 On the record, he uses A LOT of open tunings, and even at least one song that is tuned about 1/4 step down (Skinny Love is one that I'm aware of) So it's very possible that he's in some sort of altered tuning (er was in open D tuning and just tuned to D standard for this video?)

  • his voice is Awesome! i'd never heard of him before I saw an episode of Chuck and I was like WOW! Who is that?

  • I thought what made this song on the record was the double-tracked and harmonized vocals, and the overall production values. well rthis video proves me wrong - one man alone and his guitar can make this sound - and i love it all the more for it.

  • i thought it was a black guy when i heard him singing to be honest.

    i love him, he's a genius.

  • Man, I had to adjust the bass in my sub woofer because the window rattled when he spoke. Love the music!

  • ME TOO!

  • One of my favourite memories is meeting this amazing man after his gig in Bristol 2008. I had the chance to thank him for making music that helped me accept my partial hearing loss and painful sensitivity to sound. He was so gracious and down to earth.

  • he sings with so much passion and emotions, looks like he could cry in every song, it's just so beautiful :)

he is a real artist, not someone who writes music to be famous, just because he wants to express himself, a true genious!

  • Me encanta él. Me encanta su música. Me encanta la profundidad y meditación a la que invita su sencillez. No dejo de emocionarme cada vez que le escucho.

  • i love him, his voice, the way that he can play an average guitar and voice it so musically. And....i like how his hair fits his lifestyle :)

  • his speaking voice is soo deep!

  • Great register...

  • hes uses the sad F chord alot, god i love that chord

i tripped across this guy from the New moon soundtrack, now...that was a dumbfucking movie, but the fact that it led me to this dude makes it worth it

  • @rjaafar dude i hope you've looked up his other stuff.. he's absolutely phenomenal

  • yea alot of his songs are c em f lol its crazy how diff they sound

  • that was absolutely amazing. your music is beautifully hypnotizing to me and i love it.

  • Wow. Thank you so much for sharing this video. Such amazing music.

  • Thank you for this. And, my God is that beautiful.

  • When he talks its like..hypnotic almost. Strangely calming and disarming.

  • Have listened to Bon Iver everyday of my life for the last 2 years, and well it still breaks my heart to hear it. Especially Flume, thank you Justin.

  • im going to go there. here goes...

this guy is the greatest musician of all time.

    what a legend.

  • Absolutely wonderful

  • Justin Vernon said it was an old Silvertone. Obviously Silvertones were of much better quality back then than they are now.

  • So inspirational! His music is beautiful. Often times people create the most beautiful songs from experiencing the most awful pain.

  • I bet his band is rather pissed off that they aren't with him right now. This guy is divine.

  • what girl named emma didnt run back to him after this album?

  • @l433cl433c she didn't.. but they're still good friends, it wasn't about getting her back, it was about letting go peacefully

  • in my opinion the first of his kind, and one of the greatest artists i've ever heard

  • this is so damn inspiring

  • no s**t the pain went away man, now you have all the p**sy in the world to choose from. Hat's off to an original artist.

  • i love that guitar he has.

  • i'm with steigs89 on this one... so much adoration for his music and his soul.

  • ***** EXCELLENT VIDEO!

  • so good.

  • Weird comment on 'For Emma...': I wish they'd kept the original coverart from the self-released version for the 2008 release. Much cooler, IMO. Well, hey, still great, great music.

  • love that guitar.

  • this man really gets me every-time.....

  • I'm really glad I found this, I can learn from Justin himself how to play Flume on my guitar!

  • I took a lot of classes with Justin Vernon in college. We were both religious studies majors, which meant we had classes together every semester since it was such a small program. I had no idea that he was a musician, though. What a surprise -- and how odd that you can spend so much time in another person's presence without ever knowing a damn thing about him.

  • Hahaha, Are you still in contact?

  • No. He probably wouldn't even remember me. :)

  • that's a real shame

  • @signejorgenson I envy you dearly. There are so few LP's that I can listen to without having to hit the "skip" button for the next track. "Emma" is one of those albums. It's stunningly beautiful and haunting--with lyrics so piercing--you have to convince yourself this man is a mere mortal like you and I.

  • his music gives me shivers.

  • thats why its amazing!!

  • wow the sound is something

  • yeah!

  • His guitar is a "Vintage Archtop Hollowbody Sunburst Acoustic Guitar NR" ! Found it on ebay but couldn't buy it because the seller only shipped it to America & Canada :( I'm sooo sad!

  • sweet guitar, nice start. good music too

  • Listening to Justins performans makes me feel like ... coming home.

  • one of the most impressive and original musicians today, in my opinion. love it

  • i love that guitar, and i loved when he started talking about how he recorded the songs with the mic up in the guitar, the fact that he did it all by himself it's awesome

  • This man is my hero.

  • This album came out in 2007..

  • Are you missing a year? It came out last year, the year before 2009, thus 2008.

  • No. Justin Vernon self released it in 2007. Then he was signed, and the album was re-released.

  • Concise response, kudos. As I understand it the album that came out last year is a retooled and remastered version of the initial release making it new and elligible for all the best of year polls that it rightfully slayed.

  • I like to keep things short. I suppose it is a technicality really. I will agree however, that it did indeed rightfully slay the best of polls.

  • And in looking into this subject further, i believe the only difference with the 2008 release is the cover and the face that it is on a label.

  • Aww man, you've gone and ruined it by getting all pedantic when we were having a perfectly civil youtube comments argument. We could have been the first people ever to conclude such an exchange claiming a draw, we could have been a shining light, a turning point for humanity. People would talk about events in terms of pre and post P&S (pooklette and shawnruby) but that's all gone now. For shame, I weep for the future.

  • In response to Claire651 I would submit Justin's songs have filled me with the most profound happiness and mindfullness. With my headphones in I can walk through the NYC subway station completely at peace...almost like I am sitting alone in his dad's cabin. These days time alone to meditate is a precious and rare gift. I am grateful and wish this for all.

  • hermosa musica

  • why barely any views?.. i really had to dig to find this one.. and it was worth it... it's just so authentic

  • AMAZING!

  • does anyone reslly read these? Bon Iver make me sad, i love their music but feel like no one else has really heard of them? vernon makes me feel funny, he is amazing, wish more people appreciated them

  • I don't comment on youtube videos often, but feel compelled to here since I'm only the 6th comment! This video is one of the best I've found on Bon Iver. And while I feel ambiguity is a great element to music and the cabin story is overdone, I thought this feature did the perfect job of combining his 'story' with letting the beautiful sounds this man makes speak for themself. Okay, gonna watch it again now...

  • awesome, awesome, awesome.

  • wow amazing video how come only 1200 views? wow this guy is amazing and been listening to his music for quiet some time now, great to know his roots and inspirations for "For Emma, Forever ago" ... Bon Iver is amazing.

  • dont worry this guy's gonna blow the charts.

  • This is amazing.

I don't know how many times I'm going to read about Justin's journey to his father's cabin into himself. His record sounds like a story of an old sad friend. He is amazing.

  • Excellent video. Shame it doesn't have more views.
