  • this is just a waist of our time and a waist of the water a way to not pass remove this useless video..and go back to school..

  • do we have to use cold water or hot water to wash our hands?

  • she did not past that at all

  • where's the barriers?

  • SAVE WATER!!! This Video shows how to waste twice the quantity of water than required to wash ones hands properly.

Give me a break dont take this clean hand washing to such extremes that the world wastes more water each year.

  • In NJ you dont have to turn it on with a paper towel, just off. One to try, one to turn it off.

  • In NJ you dont have to turn it on with a paper towel, just off

  • she wouldnt get hired in florida lol

  • You are supposed to Pat your hands dry one hand at a time front and back using 2 different napkins

  • I think she is going to fail, because fingers must be point on the sink when washing hands.

  • Just wash a whole minute, OVERKILL IT when you take clinical test. Before anything. If you contaminate yourself during. After everything.

    But the reality is...

It won't be like this when you start, you're going to have to be Flash Gordan if you wash your hands like this in the nursing homes. Just make sure you always ALWAYS wash your palms and fingertips when working.

  • Maybe these are procedures that are correct in Colorado, considering, this video is courtesy of a CNA school in CO. I will watch more videos and see. I am trying to find out what is correct, 20 seconds at least, or 15 seconds at least, for time amount of washing hands. I read that you can sing the ABC twice to yourself and that is long enough for hand washing.

  • u are wrong>>>> better do a better hand wash ... and drying hands u contaminated your hands with the same paper towel... thaaaaaaaa

  • Ok im trying to learn this, by the comments, im guessing, i shouldnt use this as reference lol (and it doesnt make since to turn on the water with a paper towel if u gonna wash them anyway) but hey wht the heck do i know, im just saying, i understand turning it off with a paper towel, but i'll just watch an learn

  • Wow this is the correct way! Doesn't matter how you turn the sink on before you apply soap dummies.....

  • @youngtrini1 No it's NOT correct, and I don't think you should be calling anyone a dummy. I would fail that student for sure.

  • tsk tsk too embarrassing for all you who post wrong videos. You are teaching wrong procedures. You call your self professionals?! Be ashame of yourself ..what the hell! You are just misguiding everyone who are interested to gain the right knowledge.

  • @CypherD86 no, you turn it OFF with a paper towel or else you would have grabbed the dispenser handle with your germy hands and then grab it again to get another to dry

  • you are suppose to turn the water off with a napkin and also dry your hands from clean to dirty. meaning dry it from your fingers up to your wrist.

  • We were not taught to turn on the faucet with a paper towel first. We use a clean one after, so that our hands are never re-contaminated. :]

I'm going to be an STNA in Ohio though... Same thing as a CNA. Wish me luck in my skills test! I worry about making an occupied bed. :/

  • @CypherD86 Thats actually not true brudda. You only need to use it to turn the water off once you dried your hands. The only thing she did wrong was not keep her hands pointing down while she was washing.

  • @AcipE98 I am NOT a "brudda". I am a REGISTERED NURSE and Primary instructor to teach these CNA classes. You are incorrect. See below again for all wrong things.... The only thing u have correct is the paper towel thing, as I stated below that I teach turning it on and off with a paper towel NOT incorrect, just more careful. You MAY only turn it off with a paper towel, but I teach both and that's just a personal preference because it's someone else's sink. Things on faucet such as fecal matter

  • I am a Primary Instructor for CNA training and this is bad. So many mistakes. Biggest ones are you must start with wrists, not be reminded of them later.. and wash from wrists down towards sink (Wrists, top and palms/ between fingers) then nails are last. With Drying, you must dry from fingertips (last washed = cleanest) toward wrist. WASH DOWN DRY UP.... I teach water on and off with a paper towel, even though you are washing your hands it is someone else's sink.

  • @511dawn they are shameful to be called a professional and shame for them who teaches wrong stuffs

    tsk tsk

  • yea my teacher said we have to use a paper towel to turn on the sink which is kinda stupid because your hands are dirty but everyone has their own ways waste of trees loli hope i dont fail my test im taking it today and i keep trying to watch some videos but none are exact some miss stuff or do things differently ahhhhhhhhhhhh ....sucks

  • Right alot of these videos on here are wrong where did you get trained at????

  • The water is very important, and you are wasting a lot of water. It's a sad thing

  • fu

  • This is obviously not going to pass if you're taking the prometric assessment (the one used by FL and many other states). Which assessment does CO use? Please put that in your video description somewhere so you don't contribute to someone's failure in the states that use the prometric assessment.

  • NOT PERFECT!! This is all wrong! Everyone is right, turn the faucet on and off with paper towel! In Florida, this would be a FAIL!

  • PS. you're supposed to turn the sink off with a paper towel to prevent contamination AND... use a separate paper towel to wipe up any water around the sink.

  • I'd fail ya. and I'm recently certified. you're supposed to wash your hands fingertips facing down toward the basin. touching any part of the sink during hand washing deems you start over again. oh. You're supposed to also start from cleanest to dirtiest part of your hands.. wrist to fingers. I wouldn't have given her a perfect.. what a load of hooey.

  • FAIL your hand are suppose to be facing down!

  • Fat hands.

  • you guys are ridiculous she did just fine. You DO NOT NEED to use a paper towel to turn ON the faucet. I think she did a great job . Every instructor teaches their skills in their own way but the way she did it still was not wrong. NOT every cna skill is order confined, you should of heard that about a hundred times during your formal training.

  • @MegaKristyn State specific ... in FL you must turn on faucet with paper towel.

  • .lacking some steps like palm to palm with fingers intertwined,,

..then the drying of hands are not right..it must be from the fingers to the wrist and forearm ..separate paper towel

  • why would you turn on the water with a paper towel when your hands are already dirty?? you only use paper towels when you wash your hands to turn it on or off!

  • the way i leraned it, yes I think when you take your test they wawnt you to turn on the sink with a towel hand. In are class the teacher didnt realli mind because if u think about it, your going to wash your hands anyways.

  • Comment removed

  • Your hands are presumed dirty when you turn the water on...but clean after to turn water off so you use the paper towel to turn the water valve off

  • @CypherD86 I know she failed... use paper towel....

  • my instructors told ur to push back cuticles and go under each nail after you scrub fingertips on palms. also they taught us to use a towel to dispense soap. and when drying use one paper towel for each stroke. at least 4 for front and back both hands. not sure it is accurate or not. but may help some pass the exam.

  • reminds me of sex

  • yup !!!! so true!! cypherD

  • u contaminated ur hands... hands should be pointing downward!!

  • great video. would have been better if you had explained the procedures as you did it.

  • In OR two paper towels for each hand. Hand wrist. Hand wrist. I do find the video's where things are wrong helpful...as I point out what is :wrong" I realize I am more prepared than I thought! My test is Saturday!!

  • LOL MAYBE I SHUDNT GO BY THIS VIDEO WIT ALL THE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK....I DNT WANNA FAIL LOL

  • @TiaCo08 HAHA FUK FOR REALS HUH! LOL I AINT EITHER :D

  • she don't dry her hand the way she supposed to dry it... she should dry both side at once... both figers and after both wrist

  • r u serious, surprise theirs a video to teach you how to wash ur hands, thats a waste of water

  • @CypherD86 Depending on what state your in.

  • First of all these morons have no idea how to assist on washing their hands, Your suppose to go all the way up to the elbow. Wow people don't know even how to wash hands. My mom is a nurse and I am 13 but that would explain why. :)

  • @CalamityBentriniti Actually, they are doing it right. I dont know what kind of nurse your mother is, but unless you are assisting a Dr. in a surgical procedure, or something of that nature, you dont need to scrub to the elbow. This is a BASIC hand washing and is required on most state boards for a CNA test. Being that you are only 13, I will let that one slide:)

  • @Vanessa1984ize Course I understand that. I was simply stating an opinion. But in the State of California, At St. Johns Hospital in Santa Monica, Requires you to wash all the way to the elbow because it is sanitary. I don't wanna get into a huge fight so please. Im begging you :D

  • @CalamityBentriniti wow, you should know what your talking about before going around calling me morons. it just makes you look like an ass.

  • @Vanessa1984ize Oh, She is a C.N.A (Certified Nursing Assistant.)

  • Hands must be kept lower than the elbow at all times. However you do not need to turn the water on with a papertowel but you do turn it OFF with one.

National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (2010 edition) Candidate Handbook page, 17. (publisher: Pearson Vue)

  • I'm surprised that a YouTuber called "CNAInstuctor" wouldn't post a better video. As far as all you people complaining about wasting water, this was supposed to be a demo of a Patient Care Handwash. It has to be done a certain way (yes with the water flowing) to avoid contamination. You might not wash your hands like this at home; however, in a medical setting you do (although this vid is not the best demo of a proper washing).

  • YOU FAIL!! Stop posting a video that will make us fail with you -.-

  • I agree. This video is all WRONG!!! If I washed my hands like that I would have failed. Don't do this!!!!

  • She's washing her hands like she's prepping for surgery. Lol

  • Wow... waste of water.. hope all americans dont do this or else the world is fucked over 9000 times over..

  • Dry from clean to dirty. YOU WILL FAIL IF YOU FOLLOW THIS VIDEO!!!

  • what a waste of water.

  • WRONG in Mich FAILED!!!!

  • dude you forgot to use a paper towel to turn on the faucett lol thats like the most important part almost!

  • That's all wrong in my state in Cal

  • I'm glad I wasn't the only one who saw the hands weren't pointed downward during washing; this would fail a candidate in Alabama as well. (NOTE: candidates researching on YouTube should know local requirements before taking every instructional video literally; I've seen many videos on this site representing the "correct" technique for their state/school, but would fail me as a candidate in my state/school. Use caution when online "studying".) ^_~

  • Hmm... it seens clean to me

  • so many mistakes, you left your germs all over everything. you would also fail in hawaii.

  • this video is all wrong, you would fail in Florida

  • There are so Many things wrong with this video.. We according the way we are taught in NC.

  • that was perfect

  • This is totally wrong from the way they teach here in Florida 352

  • @Tchick1988 yeah352 here too

  • FAIL!!!!

  • She really needs to keep her hands below the level of her elbows. Automatic fail!!

  • WOW!!!! SOOOOOOOOOOO WRONG!

  • FAILED!!! when u dry ur hands ur not supposed to go back up to ur fingertips from the wrists..CONTAMINATIION!! ur supposed to get another paper towel!!!

  • Comment removed

  • ummmm she needs a barrior first this is sooo wrong. she can't just get the soap and get the water running WITHOUT freaking paper towell she just contaminated herself afterwrds she's dumb

  • Aren't your hands supposed to be below the sink rim? Up in the air seems wrong to me. :/

  • Please make a video teaching how to turn a doorknob.

  • what a waste of water.specially for such a lame vdeo

  • 1. turn on faucet w/ a clean paper towel.

    2. adjust water temp.( hot water opens pores which may cause skin irritation

    3. dangle arms down holding hands lower than elbows.wet hands and wrist

    4. put soap in hands

    5. lather all areas of hands wrists rubbing vigorously for at least 10 secs. ( I do 15)

    6. clean nails by rubbing them in palm of other hand

rinse thoroughly running water down wrists to fingertips pat dry w/ towel discard

turn faucet off with paper towel and discard immediately

  • i thought that u was suppose to turn on the faucet with an paper towel before u start ur hand wash then i thought that u was suppose to pat Ur hands dry with the paper towels then i thought u wasn't suppose to ball up the paper towels after u turned off the faucet because now u recontaminated Ur hands

  • Studying this video helped me passed my state exam! Thank you, CNAInstructor!

  • Comment removed

  • hand porn!?

  • take this video off! Its so wrong and will confuse those who are needing extra help

  • haha. if i washed my hands like that, all 3 of my professors will throw their shoe at me. why did u perform rubbing action in drying ur hands with the paper towel? wasn't that an offense? and where did u get the idea of.. oh shoot.. nvmind.. i agree henryward. xD ..lele seems to be saying the same thing.. "pensa" -realize?

  • Vaca gastoou muita aguá

    Pensa no planeta

  • waste much water? geez... i know she was showing how to wash hands, but i think she went a little over board with the length of time. AND you're supposed to pat your hands dry- not rub them with the paper towels.

  • well..actually..henrywards right! infection control is very important when working as a CNA. i wouldnt want to be touching the same faucet that someone touched after wiping ass! whats the point of washing your hands if you're only going to touch the dirty faucet again? the procedure listed below is the MOST ACCURATE than whats shown in the vid

  • okay everything that is wrong with this hand washing video:

    1. You should always hold your hands facing down so that the bacteria will roll off into the sink while scrubbing.

2.You're suppose to dry one hand at a time.

3.Dry hands from clean to dirty (finger tips to wrist)

4.Use a seperate paper towel per hand

5.NEVER TURN THE WATER OFF UNTIL YOUR HANDS ARE DRY AND ALWAYS USE A PAPER TOWEL TO TURN THE WATER OFF WITH :)

    ~CNA of MS~

  • Oh come on you can't expect a beginning CNA to do every single detail in every procedure, the girl did alot better than 99% of people who wash their hands.

  • i fully agree that is what my instructor explained to me

  • If in Florida she would have failed!! I cringed when she was drying her hands - nothing like contaminating from the arm to the hand.. also the water must run.. it is cheaper for the water to run than risk contaminating a patient...

  • wait im in florida and i was taught to dry my hands from the wrist up to the fingers

  • ouch if i wash my hands like that my instructor would of flip burgers on me !!!!! i guess different state has different rules :/ cuz in mass she would of failed right away

  • I have a question?? Who regulates assisted living centers that are NOT licensed ?? No one seems to want to answer this question .

  • :( The sound of water running while she's not using it is seriously killing me ... such a waste of water :(

  • You will fail the test if you turn the water off before the book says and maybe kill your client by contaminating them with M.E.R.S.A. or something even worse. Assuming that people are rational or thoughtful is a huge mistake: they aren't!!!

  • MRSA

  • your funny

  • At least turn off the water when you're scrubbing with soap ... sheesh ...

  • Can't STAND looking at those blubbery lard fat ass pig hands.

  • If Im not mistaken she did everything correct besides drying her hands

she dried from the arm down several times.

But every state has their owns regulations.

  • fail fail success.

    psyche.. Fail..

  • you just wasted so much water :O

    why so long? wtf?

  • It's insane to me how every state does things differently. This wasn't the way I was taught. If I were to watch this & go take my state board I would of surly failed. I learned the method which uses paper towels

  • failed

  • A lot of people are getting very upset over this woman and her doing things wrong. I have to tell you, I'm a training LPN and this is how we were taught. This is how everyone who is in our classes was taught. And I am in NYS. We don't use one paper towel per hand in training. We DO aim our hands DOWN more, yes. True. But I am seeing it's different everywhere you go. Keep that in mind.

  • Aren't these handwashing procedures supposed to be 20 seconds?

  • what kind of a teacher or instructor do you guys have ..the student is doing the procedure wrong....

  • Yeah she did it wrong... she should not have held her hands so high up the further down you hold them the better, same thing that everyone else says about the paper towels, when rinsing you should rinse from the wrist down, and at the end after she turned the faucet of she balled up the paper towel which just put all the germs of the dirty faucet onto her hands.

  • demonstration is wrong! if you wiped your hands at a A.R.C certification testing like that you would of failed the most important thing. haha and it's 1 paper towel per wipe!! from finger tips up. clean to dirty!! c'mon!! but in real life at a facility who does that?! thats a waste of paper towel LOL....

  • this is wrong. you're used to use seperate paper towels for each hand AND you're supposed to dry from the fingertips down. and not back up to them again; fingertips to wrist.

  • opps you touched the sink sorry you failed lol. just kidding hehe.

  • Please read the book again

  • she didn't do the fingernails and she was suppose to use two papertowel to dry each hand. Right?

  • ...i thought you're suppose to use a napkin for each hand?...basically recontaminated herself

  • is there a way to use less water? left it running for too long.

  • Aff, assim a água do mundo acaba!!!

Fecha a torneira né ow zé mane!

  • no towels used to turn knob, my instructor would of failed me if i did what the video showed.

  • terrible hand washing.

    especially at 1:30

  • WORSE HANDWASHING I HAVE EVER SEEN!!! I am a Nurse Instructor for NAT!! OMG she would FAIL!

  • I think I know most of what she did wrong, but would you point out all of the specifics? Please??

  • Also you are suppose to soap up to four to five inches above the wrist. Washing the cuticles as well not just the fingernails in florida.

  • actually the state board in florida says you can turn the water on without a barrier and you DO NOT turn the water off till you are done. You have to use a barrier towel to shut the water off. The biggest mistake she made was when she was drying her hands your not allowed to rub the paper towel all over your suppose to pat dry your hands and you get 2 paper towels each hand. oh and paigeco09, she did clean under her nails when she had her finger tips in her palm. You obviously arent a nurse.

  • you are EXACTLY right stalliano88! couldn't say it better myself :-) .....its the same way in virginia

  • @stalliano88 i completely agree with you

  • I thought you wash your hands down. Use paper towel to turn on water faucet and when you turn it off. Use paper towel to open the door also.

  • conserve water please!!!!!

  • when u think about your safety as a health care professional and as a patient.. it doesn't matter that u use that much water.. as long as u are using the right technique, and your hands are being washed properly.

  • Yes, use a paper towel to turn on the faucet. Wash hands down. Use paper towel to turn off faucet because of the germs on the faucet.

  • it should be lower your hand below your elbow and when you wash your hand it should be wrist to your finger and always lower you hand....

  • that was soooo wrong

  • Geeze, what a waste of water...

  • LOL

  • by the way, the ONLY thing shes doing wrong is not keeping her hands lower than elbows. she is correct in all other aspects for the NNAAP - all other institutions may do it differently.

  • She should also use a barrier between the faucet and her hands AND she should have cleaned under her nails.

  • instead of just screaming "WRONG", maybe you should consider that 1) some states do it differently and 2) that she IS doing it right according to the NNAAP: u know, THE THING THAT TESTS YOU FOR YOUR cna LICENSE.

  • SO SO WRONG. This wrongly skilled CNA needs to use a paper towel to touch the faucet to turn on because that has germs, this wrongly skilled CNA in training also needs to keep her hands down while washing, and at the end, this person needs to grab a paper towel to turn off the faucet then turn off the water then grab another paper towel to dry the hands. PLEASE TAKE THIS VIDEO OFF AND STOP CONFUSING CNAS.

  • That's not true, why would you use a paper towel to turn on the faucet? You only use the paper to turn it off, because regardless you're going to wash the germs off after turning it off anyways. Geez.

  • Yes it is true. In the MEDICAL field you are to use a barrier between you and all surfaces. If you wash your hands and put on gloves then need to open a cabinet you should still use a paper towel between your gloves and cabinet if you plan on using your gloves in contact with a patient or supplies/items to be given to the patient.

  • jakyBF is so funny but it is very serious in the medical field considering all the germs including urine and fecale bacteria thats on your hand especially when using the bathroom.

  • u failed u need a paper towel to turn it on and fingers pointed down

  • wrong! you failed! there goes 120 bucks...

  • thats not the correct way they showed mw in class

  • good job

  • UH UH!!! WRONG!!! WRONG!!!

  • Her hand washing technique is good enough for what she is doing (CNA). Its not like she's about to perform surgery or something.

  • this is so damn wrong.

  • This video is all WRONG!!!!. You have to keep your hands pointed down into the sink at all times. If you wash your hands like she did, then the water/germs can run down the forearms and then when you are rinsing the water/germs can run back down to contaminate clean hands!!

  • it's not perfect, i disagree!

  • Umm...this is almost completely wrong. First of all, the faucet needs to be turned on with a paper towel (according to the American Red Cross). Second, the hands should be pointed down at all times. Third, you're only allowed 4-5 paper towels during the CNA exam (one to turn the faucet on, one to dry the right hand and one to dry the left hand, and one to turn the faucet off). Fourth, you are NOT allowed to dry your hands from the wrist to the finger tips. This is cross-contaminating.

  • HANDS SHOULD BE POINTED DOWN!!!

  • macdaco05, There is a good reason for wasting so much water in a clinical setting. If you'll notice, once she has washed her hands, she does not contaminate them again by touching the faucet with bare hands. After this, she can use her back to push the door open and put on sterile latex gloves. You never kill 100% of the microrganisms on the integumary, but it's the best "quick" method.

  • As you can see, it's very important to waste a lot of water!!!, perfect, well done!!!

  • When you wash your hands you work from the wrists down. It is most important to clean the nail beds because they tend to carry the most germs.

  • its not necessary to use paper towel in turning on the faucet. We'll only use paper towels in turning off.

  • the cna is supposed to use paper towels to turn ON the sink, otherwise she would have infected that for her residents and others using the sink. Also, when washing hands, the CNA is supposed to point her hands downwards and not keep her hands so high in the air

  • Reply to JakyBF... actually proper handwashing is a clinical skill which, if not done properly can spread infection. People who are unwell or immunocompromised can die from such infections, so yes, this is serious.

  • shoulnt she have scrubbed her nails and use 1 paper towel per hand... i was goign to do that on my boards 24th og oct plz reply back before then thnkyou very informative video

  • Are you serious?

A video on how to wash your hands?

  • don't let water drip around the sink or in the floor was more crucial on my test then touching the sink

  • we have to wash for 30 seconds in illinois

  • "Get your wrists. Beautiful" i love it lol.

  • I was taught diff. Palms, Back of hands, between fingers, thumbs, nails and last wrist.

  • Excellent, though I would recommend to elevate your elbow above your entire forearm, as by virtue of gravity, liquid will slide down your arm. The principle is always cleanest to dirtiest.
