Cause record companies figured out that hip hop could become popular and it wasn't just for the minority black communities. Therefor they commercialized, bastardized, and whored it into the pop industry and sold it like bigmacs. 1,000,000 pieces of shit sold everyday. Hence the current so called "hip hop" artists you see on tv, all talkin the same bullshit game about they clothes, hair, cars, and trash talking the skilled people that paved the way for them to be on the tv in the first place.

Why is it that socially conscious rap and hip-hop is always the best also in an artistic sense? Lyrics, vocals, beat all make a perfect, harmonious whole.
