  • Will my local volunteer fire department pay for the schooling that I will need to become an emt.

  • @CamoDiesel

You'll have to check with them. I'm sure that some will but here in San Diego County, the norm is that you have to pay for the training yourself. There may be grants available and/or financial aid too!

  • @FFMcom I checked it out and found out they will since I'm a firefighter on the department

  • Hi all... all of the details about the EMT programs in San Diego County can be found on our website... fire fighter medic dot com.

  • are there like any free e training classes and first responder training classes anywhere in the usa?i live in harlan county ky.

  • Just to add, I started EMT in California in August.

    Textbooks: 200

    Tuition: 320+30 parking

    Vaccines (if needed): 0-80 depending

Admin Costs and required equipment: 150-200 depending

Optional equipment (good boots, pants, own equipment, etc.): Variable

Admin are things like background check, NREMT fee I believe, so on and so forth. Never regretted spending a penny.

Just a few questions if you could please answer it would mean a lot! I live in CA as well, the LA area, hoping to start my EMT course training in a couple of months. What program or city college did you sign up at for the course? Were you required to to take a first responder course or just the CPR card? And also can you get the CPR card from any various health organizations or does it have to be from the American Red Cross b/c that's what I read in some websites?? Thank you!
