That's about it. I had this experience very recently. They had me doing revisions five days after the broadcast company was supposed to have the final copy.
Brilliant writing, but since you're obviously audio engineers (or at least know a few) I wish you'd record some actual voiceover. Maybe even shoot some real footage. This xtranormal stuff is an insult to our profession. Pretty soon people will be making ads this way, and then we audio engineers and sound designers will be out of a job.
Awesome! It's always the guy that knows absolutely nothing that talks like he knows everything, especially when I'm mixing.
I was starting a mix once lowering faders and bringing them back one at a time, this guy starts shouting "hey bring the beat back up, and I can't hear my vocals", another time I got this guy who wanted me to teach him in one day what I've learned over 20 years because he wanted to start his own home studio, he wanted me to teach him the next day for free.
Un-fucking-believable! I thought only I have to endure this kinda work (I design stuff, Indesign-Illustrator-all kinda Adobe related things).
I've redone entire books in Indesign, after sending lots of drafts and clients were happy with them...
But I learned to be content with destroying my work so many times, as long as it's not my fault and I have to design again and again just because my clients are mad.
The thing is... I'm getting paid... and it's all that matters.
I'm afraid I cannot reveal my identity yet as my career must be kept "safe". And wicked. And creative. And nice. I can tell you that i am definitely not a "mr haff". Never heard of him!
As a voice over artist this made me LOL! How many times i have been in sessions with 'creatives' like him! Can you sound sexy yet fast? Happy yet with undertones of doubt? FFS! We want it in 20 (but it's at least 35') but don't let it sound rushed. Now can you do 'buy it now' in blocks of 4 all with different intonations! It's true...sad but TRUE!
This could be any of the twelve or so regulars circulating Toronto right now. And by that I mean it captures the smug, talentless essence of the 'hip' young ad 'creative' feeding at the trough of musicians, filmmakers, writers and other actual artists servicing their trash. Well done.
Someone has hidden a camera in our studio office. Totally, 100% accurate up to the 'creative confessional' about the talkback and 30 versions. The real offenders have no such insight...
great! and so true. those people are worthless when it comes to picture OR sound/music production. they should just stay at the craft service table trying to pick up the cute P.A.s.
I work at an audio house in Toronto and this is exactly how it goes. Don't forget the part where the picture editor added all these "great sound fx and music" ahead of time.
This is how many of my days play out. However, the part about mix and level critiques being barked out while editing raw takes seems to have been left out.
Lolz...I've been doing sound for TV and Adverts for 18 years now - and this is EXACTLY what happens! Reeeeaaallly - it's uncanny. Glad to hear I'm not the only audio post production guy who has to deal with a new tribe of wannabe producers every 6 months who carry on like this...! Argh!!!!
It's kind of sad that the comedic interpretations and the reality of our business are virtually the same. *Sigh*... I'm living a film scoring version of Spinal Tap.
Dude this couldn't be any more spot on...you only forgot the bit about them saying they got in ten minute late when they run out of time horribly at the end....and then they'll blame the engineer for being too slow. Bloody funny guys.
