The front and rear of vehicles are made to withstand serious impact. The sides are not built so tough.

Actually Subaru sides are tough as hell to go through. All she damaged was the outside sheet metal. If you look closely you can almost see the reinforced rebars that Subaru puts on the side. They don't get the Best Picks from side crashes for nothing. Doors are about 7-8 inches thick.

Toyota is not what they used to be especially on the interior, engine hasn't any power, the body rusts too easy, the drive train is the only thing half decent anymore.

If you do that to the side of any car it gunna end up looking like the subie. The side of any car, truck, or suz is suposed to give way or buckle its called the crumple zone.
