this is fantastic les dawson and roy barraclough were a great double act and listen to bbc radio 4 extra on a sunday for the les dawson show there's another funny sketch on there wotan man of steel it's brillant les dawson was a talented man R.I.P
Ah,god bless him.The man was a comic genius,a phrase which is bandied around way too often these days with reference to the current crop of comics. The pairing of him & Roy Baraclough as Cis' & Ada was simply oustanding. And listening to the hysterical screeching of the studio audience was equally entertaining. You're missed,LD,but I imagine the after-life is rocking in the aisles.
@popazz1 I was just talking how great TV was years ago so watching some fantastic British comedy. Les was loved by many and is such a huge miss. Cissie and Ada is classical. Just looking at them has me in doubled up with laughter. RIP Les. British TV is a disgrace now with all the reality crap.
Hi, I’m Terry Ravenscroft, the scriptwriter of all the Cissie and Ada sketches here on YouTube. Glad to know they are still being enjoyed. I have just published an e-book on Amazon Kindle ‘Les Dawson’s Cissie and Ada’, which contains many of the original scripts. Apart from a Kindle gizmo the e -book is downloadable on I-Pod, Mac, and you can also download it direct onto your PC.
Was drinking a cup of tea when Les said he was approching the change. When Roy said "from which direction?" I lost it a spat a mouthful of tea across the room. Classic, brilliant comedy
Classic comedy from Les and Roy. I can watch these over and over and still laugh. Sadly none of today's "comedians" could ever replace the likes of Les Dawson.
My goodness i miss Les..i grew up with his wonderful humour, and these sketches with Roy Barraclough are indeed priceless treasures, and guaranteed to cheer up a weary soul. I agree, that they have u laughing aloud at the phrasology, coupled with amazing observations from a bygone era...God Bless them both, and thank YOU gorleston for the great foresight to put these on youtube..everyone should have a dose of Cissie & Ada!
Gorlestonguy, you are a star ! I've been chuckling at all the C&A vids this weekend after I came across them. Thankfully, there is a lot I haven't seen so it's fresh. The Dawson reaction shots have me giggling everytime. The face, the pause, the punchline.

You have to watch comedians like these to realise just what we are missing. Today's comedians leave me cold.

"Approaching the change! From which direction?"
I used to do my running warm-up routine listening to this, but it's so funny I can't stop laughing.....

Back in the 1950s Retford was full of ladies like these! I love the 'posh' northern working class - so unintentionally funny!

Just love how Les Dawson just has to walk in as Ada to get a laugh. It reminds me so much of Benny Hill as Fredd Skuttle.

morgansifer82 3 years ago
I know! The first time that I watched this I kept wondering if the studio had used one of Mrs. Slocombes wigs for him!

And Les Dawson, aka Cissy, reminds me of some of the old bids my gran used to chat o on the bus!
