@davem62290 I hate Scoresby scotch!Spend the extra 3 or 4 buck's and don't break the account and by some Grants or ballantines instead or maybe John Barr.Scoresby sucks and so does Passport, inverhouse and J.B. all sour and premature.Scotch isn't really scotch until it's 8 year's old.
Scoresby is quite a tasty bottom shelf blend..... I agree it is no Laphroig. But.... it is a very smooth, cheap blend. With hints of Islay and excellent on the rocks. Never could it compae to a Highland Park.; But... It is an excellent cheap blended Scotch..
@davem62290 For me, if I'm going to buy a scotch that's got some soul, I'm going to just foot an extra 15 bucks to get an extra 20x better product. If it were 1-for-1 on taste, perhaps, but it's not too much of a stretch to spend a wee bit more to get something entirely tasty.
Well said...Scotch is the most unique type of spirit. People shouldnt start drinking scotch with a single malt but neither with a 7$ bottle. Your examples of quality blended scotch are ideal. Chivas, JW black, Dimple, Ballantine's 12 y.o. are always a safe choice for starters. And after that once you go malt, you can't back.
@ch00089 Highland park came as a recommendation by a few viewers and someone close to the family who is from Scotland :) I figured, that's enough to trust the purchase.
@fund4mentcook See, everyone's different. one of the folks commenting on our latest ABV episode said: "I'm surprised Chivas ranked so high, it's the only blended scotch I've tried and think it tastes like crap. It made me not want to try another blended, I'm all about the single malts."
