The West's history is all about paganism and Christianity. Just because most westerners are now becoming atheists as we learn more about the natural world and realize that believing in gods is even less rational now that we understand evolution, doesn't mean we can't still celebrate pagan/Christian feasts like Christmas in an entirely secular manner.

I'm guessing you are referring to jeremiah 10:3 which mentions cutting a tree from a forest and a craftsman shaping it with his chisel and then decorating it with gold and silver. I did not decide to think people believe in stupid stuff. The way i see it, people just do. It is not a choice of mind. I can't decide to think scientology is smart. It is not to me. It is not logical to believe in a god to me. I know people who feel belief in god is the only logic choice -people who I think are smart. How could they be so accepting of the religion and so skeptical about other things?
Everyone wants to say they have a choice to believe in god or not to but i have inclination that is not a clear as that. I couldn't believe in god with what I know and how I think. And I know people who have a hard time imaging themselves not believing in a god or gods. The information we have access to has important role in in our rationing but if an old book doesn't do it for you, how can you make it? Could you decide to believe me if I said I could fly like a blue bird? If I refused to fly for you, could you make yourself believe if you wanted to? You could not trick yourself like that. There is no way you would be able to convince yourself I could fly. It would take evidence of some sort. Even if you wanted to believe me for some reason you'd still need evidence. The belief or lack of belief in god is a lot more important than if I could fly. So I ask again, is there really a choice?

Believers say their book or thoughts or life experiences are enough evidence. Is there a choice? Can you decide to believe in god or gods if you think there is not the evidence for belief? "As lame as Passover?" I don't believe (no evidence, totally implausible) that the Exodus occurred. Yet memories of Seder with Jewish friends are among my most treasured. 2 thousand years of hope against odds. I had the kind of childhood that results in lifelong depression/anxiety, etc. I wandered into church and got "saved" at 12. Three years later I was an atheist (mostly because of the racism), but I really had been saved. I had been vaccinated with hope. I've never lost it again.
The other elements of Christmas, the tree, santa, the mistletoe...these all have meanings. Many of which were there long before Christianity. Even most elements of Santa are either pagan, or products of capitalistic advertising. Do you know why Santa is red? Because the Coca Cola Company commissioned an artists to paint him as such.

Most "Christians" today are not the same as the "Original Christians".
Modern Christians are different variations of Agnosticism that use Old Christian Bible to give "false evidence" for their beliefs. Each nomination has different beliefs and response to said beliefs. Look at the difference between Roman Catholics and the Jehovah's Witnesses alone. Then you have Protestants, Lutherans, Rosicrucian, yatta yatta yatta. There are more denominations of Christianity then grains of sand.

No, I'm not sensitive. I was referring to the use of public land (like the courthouse yard) to put up Christian displays like the Jesus-in-the-manger symbol that pops up around Christmas. Its annoying to see billboards, but that's their right.

The God of the Bible defines right and wrong and gave us the ability to choose and even though we have chosen wrong He is willing to forgive us only through the sacrifice which Jesus Christ completed. It is very simple and the Bible encourages us to prove all things to seek wisdom. The God of the Bible says turn from your wicked ways and live Jesus said He is the way the truth and the life. We are not the judge nor define subjectively what is right and wrong through God is love He is also Just.

I'm very spiritual, while also being very anti-religious. I would hope that an atheist has reached their world view by deep introspection and insight... and then rejected all non-rational, illogical beliefs. Therefore, worship of any God or person would be rejected as a contradiction in-of-iitself.
Now is that reality? Probably not. But I'd venture the guess that the average atheist is more questioning, less brain-controlled than the average Bible thumper. And that's a good start.

The West's history is all about paganism and Christianity. Just because most westerners are now becoming atheists as we learn more about the natural world and realize that believing in gods is even less rational now that we understand evolution, doesn't mean we can't still celebrate pagan/Christian feasts like Christmas in an entirely secular manner.

if your atheistic ministry is all about logic and reason, be careful when interpreting the bible. you stated that jeremiah 10 explains the desecration of a decorated tree. I'm guessing you are referring to jeremiah 10:3 which mentions cutting a tree from a forest and a craftsman shaping it with his chisel and then decorating it with gold and silver. I did not decide to think people believe in stupid stuff. The way i see it, people just do. It is not a choice of mind. I can't decide to think scientology is smart. It is not to me. It is not logical to believe in a god to me. I know people who feel belief in god is the only logic choice -people who I think are smart. Everyone wants to say they have a choice to believe in god or not to but i have inclination that is not a clear as that. I couldn't believe in god with what I know and how I think. And I know people who have a hard time imaging themselves not believing in a god or gods. The information we have access to has important role in in our rationing but if an old book doesn't do it for you, how can you make it? Reading religious texts only should me how foolish and small minded people really are

Could you decide to believe me if I said I could fly like a blue bird? If I refused to fly for you, could you make yourself believe if you wanted to? You could not trick yourself like that. There is no way you would be able to convince yourself I could fly. It would take evidence of some sort. Even if you wanted to believe me for some reason you'd still need evidence. The belief or lack of belief in god is a lot more important than if I could fly. So I ask again, is there really a choice?

Most "Christians" today are not the same as the "Original Christians".
Modern Christians are different variations of Agnosticism that use Old Christian Bible to give "false evidence" for their beliefs. Each nomination has different beliefs and response to said beliefs. Look at the difference between Roman Catholics and the Jehovah's Witnesses alone. Then you have Protestants, Lutherans, Rosicrucian, yatta yatta yatta. No, I'm not sensitive. I was referring to the use of public land (like the courthouse yard) to put up Christian displays like the Jesus-in-the-manger symbol that pops up around Christmas. Its annoying to see billboards, but that's their right.
For example... I hate smokers. I've never been a smoker. But you know what I hate more? Smoking bans. I believe there's enough market out there for smoke-free enviornments that people's wallets will establish such zones. I don't need a law to force it.

Just like I always wear my seat belt but abhore the fact that the government can give you a ticket for it. I'm an odds man: the seat belt will save my life, most likely, when some crazy crap happens. We never plan on an accident, so I'd rather have my belt on just in case. But a law and tickets? Bullcrap! Just another way to inflate the government's income under the guise of 'public safety.'

It'll help explain how the two parts, Old and New Testaments, fit together.

There are many paths to God...
If you believe God to be holy, good, virtuous, and Loving, then any faith that embraces God in that view will discover God's nature and blessing.
Demanding that only the Bible, and Jesus, can be the path to enlightenment is, at best, grossly naive and ignorant... and, at worst... provocation to kill all non-Jesus-followers.

I'm very spiritual, while also being very anti-religious. I would hope that an atheist has reached their world view by deep introspection and insight... and then rejected all non-rational, illogical beliefs. Therefore, worship of any God or person would be rejected as a contradiction in-of-iitself.
Now is that reality? Probably not. But I'd venture the guess that the average atheist is more questioning, less brain-controlled than the average Bible thumper. And that's a good start.

There are couples that want no children... others who want lots of chlidren. I don't ever want anyone to decide for someone what is the correct path for them.
So, instead, I'd rather focus on common sense solutions: adopt a child instead of bringing another into the world. Carrying on your bloodline is an antiquated belief that should have died out with Kings and royal-blood beliefs.
