Thanks so much for this. So interesting to hear the interview. I loved this song when it came out - so beautiful. Can't find anywhere to download for UK though! Am I right in thinking the B side was an acapella version?
@psywhizz Hi, sorry, can't help you there. Don't know much about Sal Solo. My interest in the video was strictly the St. Philip's choir participation. Best Wishes, Paul
The top two choristers from this era were Jaymi Bandtock and Sam Harper. It was they who did the brilliant harmony in Panis Angelicus. Other soloist who brought St. Philip's Boys' Choir to public notice were Gareth Lowman; Mathew Arthey, Jonathan Arthey, Robert Chee-A-Tow. If you join the Yahoo Angel Voices Group, you'll find all you need to know in their datbases. There's also a good Libera History article on Wikipedia. Best wishes, Paul
I love this song so much, remember seeing it on TOTP, but forgot about it, until recently, when it suddenly came back to mind. In this video, at the end of the song, when he bows his head silently, it seems like he is praying...
I met Sal a few years ago, during his visit to Bogota. I was honored to be their translator in an interview for broadcasting, and in a recital you offered. Took up contact with him recently and I thank God for knowing him, He is a great inspiration. Good luck, Sal, God bless you.
Classix nouveau along with Bauhaus and Duran Duran were one of the best bands of the 80's.His voice was as good as Peter Murphy's or Bowies.I wish they would have made more albums. He quit the band really young.
I believe Sal Solo inspired Robert Prizeman for a new direction from Christian song with Libera(St Philips/Angel Voices). Sal Solo giving a new sound with Catholic song.
this is sal solo who use dto be in the "trendy" band classics neavouex or however you spell it and he did these solo songs in 84 and the other one is music and you..i use to have thre 12 inch versions club mixes of these quite goods doesent sound old sounds fresh still...
ABSOLUTELY, TOTALLY FANTASTIC. Only six of them and what a sound. I like this, because it's real; would be nice to see them occasionally doing "real". It's brilliant, thanks.
Hi, You don't say here you are but if in the UK, the choir are resident at St. Philips Church, Norbury, London where they sing most Sundays. They also do occasional live concerts and appear on BBC Songs of Praise.
Brilliant stuff - Their very first televised performance. The pioneers - how very proud they must feel having that worthy accolade. Thanks for posting this; the quality is superb considering its over 23 years old!! Loved the intro too.
Hi David, All I can claim credit for is the conversion and uploading to YouTube. Lawrence's friend Colin is the real hero for having recorded it back in '84 and remembering that Lawrence was a Libera "nut". Aren't we all !!!!
Thanks for this Gents. They could sing beautifully then and they can sing beautifully now. To think we saw the successors of those boys live last Friday.
Really love the song and this performance, thank you for uploading!
It's a great song, always delight me.

@paulban Oh they were singing on it too! Voice only! It sounded very much more 'choiry' (prob not a word!) as no music.

Yes I know that I could have ripped a copy of it, but I would much rather buy a legit copy... :-)

Its all well and true but its not like the pop industry and more so the public couldn't have managed without it.
