I didn't like it because it was hard to learn how the car reacted; it just isn't intuitive at all, apart from forward back left and right. Also the amount you turn goes up exponentially depending on how long you hold down the side buttons for, so either you turn a tiny bit or you turn so much you skid and kill yourself and need to start again. Sooooo hard to do on a keyboard. Looked so fun when I first started the level... I hate it now.

Drive up to the first checkpoint and slow down. Behind the

boulders is a short patch of sand where you can drive onto

the closed road. This of course is the "wrong way" and if

you plan to go through it, you will be faster but not complete

the lap. You will not win unless you do the following.

Drive up to the end of the road, just past the "Dunniel"

(or something similar) sign, where you get your checkpoint

information and select "Replace Car" (default is [Keypad 0]).

pfffiu just made it! i wanted to do the cheat : go until the first lap and the restore car etc. but i think i have an updated version of mafia and it wouldn't let me go on the wrong way' and in the beginning of the race i get the special menu to choose the difficulty level and damage on/off.

anyway i did it without cheat, on easy mode! and i'm very glad that i can continue the game :)

After 8 years, what I can still clearly remember at Mafia, is this level, and that made me LOVE IT... :) Today i finished playing Mafia 2 and even if it is great game, I'm missing something like this "racing level" which I can remember another 8 years :-D

I think it's a ok mission and though the race was fun. Don't know why people have such a hard time with this race, I remember I won on my second try the first time I played Mafia. From then on I always win this race on my first try, it's no problem and a piece of cake. Stop treating the race like your playing Need for Speed and ou will do fine.

@Ch4oTiK I know how the car physics work in this race, you don't have to tell me. But how hard can it be to adapt? I needed 2 go's before I won this race, everyone else needed 100 go's. For the part where you said the car spins out, well it doesn't have to. Turn 1 for example, just ease on the steering by tapping left arrow (or whatever button your steering with), and tap on the gas (but not much at all, even less than on the steering) and then full gas on the straight. Like in the video here.

@VuDu4000 Yeah and I eventually did that to win, but I had to do it on Easy because even on normal, that tactic doesn't work. The fact is the only way to truly beat this race on something such as Extreme is to map the keys for ease of Manual Transmition, and it's a pain in the ass to do that on a PC due to key placement whereas it's a LOT easier on a console. That's the difference that kills this mission for the PC version, which is why like I said, it's a LOT harder on PC than xbox.

@VuDu4000 What I mean by the tactic doesn't work is from normal to extreme, they hit the corners faster than you can unless you can use good manual transmition and slow it down to 1 for the turns and back up to 3 as fast as possible on each straightaway. I had to complete each lap in 1:40 minimum average to come in first on Easy, and that still had 2nd place right on my ass. The other cars control way better than yours and faster unless you perfect this shit, which is why it's lame.

@Ch4oTiK Alright, I tried out the race now just for the heck of it. Have not driven it in a year or so. I used hood view (but outside view in start just to see everyone), manual transmission and hard difficulty. My best lap was 1.24.117 and all in all I got 7.18.866, the guy behind me was far off, didn't see him and I lapped one red car. I needed one try. Extreme difficulty I have never tried, I think you need a wheel on that one or an Xbox controller or something. Piece of cake anyway.

I find this race great, because you have to drive on the edge and there is always a chance, even if you've driven it a thousand times, that something goes wrong. That's adrenaline for you, and that's why it is so rewarding when you take huge risks and get away with it =)))

If you go too fast, your car doesn't turn fast enough, if you go slowly, yout back tires skid out when you turn, if you get knocked on your head, you LOSE THE RACE. nice driving, but a bit slow. some tips for fast drive:

1) there are only two breaking points while using automatic transmission - first corner and corner after chicane

2) when using manual transmission 1:24 is accessable (i've achieved 1:24.233 just on 4-th race. 1:26-1:27 is common time). third breaking point with manual transmission is on top of hill

3) swtich to 2nd gear after 1st split (turn before uphill) and before last corner. on all breaking points also

Well, I don't cheat or anything, I just did hundreds and hundreds of laps and I tried to improve my driving every time. For example I can tell you that there are only two places where I hit the brakes - on the first turn and on the turn after the chicane. All other turns I go full speed :)
