I'm so close to becoming a vegetarian. I go to this body of water, oil. I go to that body of water, oil. I'm sick of cows. Venison sounds good, but it's so hard to find.
The topic of food is now so controversial, it is (sadly) getting right up there with politics and religion. Obviuosly, its best to grow your own, or at least try to EAT only FRESH, RIPE, LOCAL, ORGANIC, UNCOOKED, plant foods.
@rawzone1 Give me the next ten words on how to accomplish this. I'd like you to back up your opinion by explaining how anyone outside of a coastal zone can possibly survive winter on ONLY fresh, ripe, local, organic, uncooked, plant foods. I'll give you a hint, it is IMPOSSIBLE.
@MichaelnChristine It's not impossible. Join a CSA. Anyway, I'ts about making the choices that are possible. You don't have to go to the extreme. I think it's enough to be educated and go from there.
@frostinad It not impossible to survive winter on ONLY fresh, ripe, local, organic, uncooked, plant foods? Really? I live in PEI, trees are just budding out for the first time today. We will have freezing temp by Nov. How, pray tell, do you expect me to eat organic, local produce when we can't grown food crops locally half the year? I do ok with frozen veg, home canned stuff, meat, fish, whole grains etc. You could not eat locally and be a raw food vegan here. You'd die.
@rawzone1 "The topic of food is now so controversial, it is (sadly) getting right up there with politics and religion."
Such is neopaganism.
"The loss of transcendence evokes the flight to utopia. I am convinced that the destruction of transcendence is the actual amputation of human beings from which all other sicknesses flow. Robbed of their real greatness they can only find escape in illusory hopes."
Human beings have never have to, after discoverin the use of fire, eat raw food. We developed mostly because of our ability to cook our food. To make it more available to our digestive system. Eating vegan, raw, uncooked food is not healthy in a long perspective. Eating more fat and less carbs is very benifitial for your health.
@rawzone1 i agree, but i wouldn't call it "controversial", its more like... a lot of Americans are beginning to understand the importance of food on our quality of life... and a lot of people... still don't won't to understand that
@rawzone1 ; That wold not leave me (who live in northern part of sweden) very mutch to eat. The first 4 statments is fine, that would only be an improvment.....but not raw.....I could not survive on such a diet, raw on what can be grown in my area, is an stavation-diet.
@rawzone1 Also cooked animal foods are for our best most vital health, as well cooked plant foods. I know from experience in all these dietary extremisms since 1984. Your body gives response indicators. Your body responds to everything you consume and the balance of your diet. Get and be in tune. Your body can show you the way by desire and response/results. Cooking is uniquely human and goes back 'eons' in our history. Humans are very unique compared to other animals, fundamentally.

Great advice Michael! Something hilarious though.... broccoli now has a series of commercials here in Canada. There's been 4 or 5 so far and they're airing a LOT.
@Youexposed1 Yep, there are two of the ads for broccoli on YouTube. They're funny. Just search for "The Miracle Food Broccoli" and they're among the top 5 results.
@hisblood27 I agree, its crazy, I feel like an archaeologist digging for valid information...and I happen to find it with links to squirrels on water skis
@hisblood27 Michael Pollan was also on the Oprah Winfrey show and she did more than one episode on natural food. Dr. Oz also talks about food and has different guess speak about it on his show also. You can eat some cooked food but have to be careful what and how you cook it. Sugar at extremely high temperture can be turned extremely hard, not something you should eat.

Monocultures threaten our entire food supply and Monsanto is the most dangerous company that ever existed . Pesticide is only necesarry because of our dependance on monocultures . Monsantos genetically engineeredc plants actually produce their own natural poisons . If you see a bug bite a potatoe and then die , don't eat the potatoes . McDonalds actually got caught selling these poison potatoes to consumers .
Just because he came from a rich family and went to college is he better than the rest of us ?He eats meat. He likes junk food. He's says so on earlier videos. The best article he has ever written is My 2 Gardens. The May 13 1991 Forbes article is available on the internet. It talks about the conflict between his maternal grandfather and his father. It involved vegetable gardening and lawns.
He talks about the vegetables he grew and trying to win the approval of both of the families.
I thought nature was a better model for what happens in nature since it accounts for entire eco systems, not gross profits. Monsanto is out of their minds if they expect us to believe that their GMOs are an improvement upon a model that kept humanity fed for thousands of years. We need to get away from monocultures in order to get away from GMOs and tons of pesticides.
Imagine, all that land, that space and the feed.... wouldn't we eliminate these foul diseases they are discussing.... don't move it south of the border.... just stop it ! Stop animal production, factory farming and meat eating - and guess what, you will get well.. no diabetes, heart disease, strokes or obesity.... try it for ( no animal products ) for two weeks.... you will thank me, but I don''t want thanks... just humans being and feeling well. Don't support corporations and big business.
Everyone should kill their own meat. Otherwise, it's kind of like buying a stolen car radio. There's always some killing you got to do around the farm.
I have to admit, Häagen-Dazs "Five" Passionfruit flavor is by far the best ice-cream I have ever EVER tried. My personal rule is that if you are going to eat something "bad" for you, buy the highest quality you can afford, or bake/cook it yourself & share it with others so you don't over-indulge. I eat "healthy" ~80% of the time and "unhealthy" ~20% of the time. (My version of unhealty food does not include fast food or anything processed. Think more like a plate of eggs benedict).
Oh, please. Showing a bunch of pigs in a pen, is misleading. Swine flu has nothing to do with pig farming. It should not even be referred to as "swine flu" but rather, as H1N1 flu virus. If you have issues with pig farming, go discuss that. Addressing our food supply industry as the source of bugaboo infections is just more liberal scare tactics. Essentially, Liberals want to hem in human populations by limiting technologies that sustain Middle Class lifestyles. They do this in USA and Overseas.

I work in a very busy, very successful grocery store. We sell lots of foods, some preprocessed, some fresh, all of it wholesome, good tasting and good for you. People use coupons from corporations to try their products. Meats, dairy, produce, cheeses, canned goods, snack foods, I find these kinds of ideology driven, elitist, academic and scaremongering public address tactics despicable. Obviously, food and H1N1 have very little if anything to do with one another.
Michael Pollan is the jam! He is pragmatic, doesn't show passion when giving us clear information, doesn't make me feel guilty but inspired to change my habits and be another ripple in a pool spreading out on still waters (or whatever mixed metaphor I'm going for there). Really inspiring in his matter-of-fact delivery of important facts. Good for our times.

Zorstor 1 year ago
@rawzone1 i agree, but i wouldn't call it "controversial", its more like... a lot of Americans are beginning to understand the importance of food on our quality of life... and a lot of people... still don't won't to understand that
jakey4003 9 months ago
@rawzone1 ; That wold not leave me (who live in northern part of sweden) very mutch to eat. The first 4 statments is fine, that would only be an improvment.....but not raw.....I could not survive on such a diet, raw on what can be grown in my area, is an stavation-diet.
katteninutihatten 9 months ago

@MrsStephDuff REALLY!?!?! Wow i live in US and there is NO healthy food being advertised.

@Youexposed1 Yep, there are two of the ads for broccoli on YouTube. They're funny. Just search for "The Miracle Food Broccoli" and they're among the top 5 results.

Do some research on the Spanish Influenza. It has been traced to human-swine interaction as well. This is hardly a liberal/conservative issue.
