I DID THAT BEFORE AS A KID!Well that and use a turbo controller when I had the bubble shield and mashed on jump until I slip through the sides.

That "all gold" mode is called "Super Sonic."

First of all, you need to clear the bonus rounds and collect all the Chaos Emeralds. Any time after you have them, collect 50 or more rings and jump twice (that is, push the jump button while in the air). When Super you can't be hurt, but you lose rings slowly and change back when you run out.

Btw, Tails or Knuckles need the "Super Chaos Emeralds" before they can become Super. Those can only be collected in "Sonic 3 & Knuckles."
