  • Marlon Brando's more than a great actor. He's a visionary and a philosopher. Everything he just said in this interview clip makes beautiful sense. He is also blessed with a great sense of humor.

  • Chung is a FUCKING no talent cunt clown!

  • Chung is not engaging enough, she is boring and typical. She's not unique enough to carry this interview.

  • marlon brando always turns an interview upside down lol

  • Thank you for posting this. Modesty- only the great understand this. A gift like so many others who got tired of being wrapped and unwrapped etc.

  • Did any of you hear that Paramount wanted to remake The Godfather shortly after his death in 2004? 'Supposedly' as a 'tribute'...THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN THE BIGGEST INSULT EVER! I'm glad Francis Ford Coppola has retained creative rights to the films and blocked and overruled all intentions of any remakes!

  • The man, the myth, the legend. RIP

  • This interview explains Chungs marriage to Maury Povich. Slow!!

  • so modest :)

  • When I get back from the stupid place shitty place I work in, I make sure that I watch a lil bit of B to get closer to reality, to create a distance from the idiots I spend my time with.

  • He was 65 so that would make it 1989 at the time of this interview.

  • @RichardElden It's a hairy subject to talk about :)

  • @RichardElden You are a true, awful bastard aren't ya? He had great hair in his time & as someone age's they lose hair.

Also what good is his hair now since he passed away in July 2004?

    Butter balls

  • Comment removed

  • @RichardElden haha your comments sounds like a fucking joke just like yourself ! oh nevermind is you're still a 19 year old kiddo. come back when you're mature and you gonna be leaving nothing but positive comments for this great hero =P remember my words in another 10 or so years. make sure you message me in 10 years from today ok ?

  • Love the way brondo's interviewing her :)

  • i always will remember this interview, especially when he talked about how we talk about who's better etc. how does johnny depp think that he belongs on the same PLANET as brando talent wise. makes me wanna puke

  • i always will remember this interview, especially when he talked about how we talk about who's better etc

  • lmao, i loved the dumb ass interveiwer saying the letterman show intertained her, marlon got more entertainment out of his dog

  • Marlon Brando was in pictures!!!!!

  • Like Erroll Flynn, Brando had a Warm Quality, Natural heroic quality, Studied Life always, some of his performances are so good, they cannot be described.

  • I say exactly what I mean. People think you're mean when you do. It is darkly humorous that people say they value honesty, but clearly do not. Walking up to a fat guy and saying "you're fat" isn't "the truth", it is mean. Now, when a fat guy says "can you believe people say I'm fat?" and you say yes, THAT is the truth in action. People like it when OTHERS are told like it is, but not themselves. Pathetic. Lying cowards outnumber honest people 99-1 today.

  • @kenfo0 calm down mate

  • @SimoMcGauneo This is me calm. Why do you say "mate"? Are you an aussie? Do you live on a boat? Why bother with such a weak comment? Lonely, or what?

  • @kenfo0 No, I'm not an "Aussie". No I don't live on a boat. I didn't find the comment to be weak, was just telling you to do something. Finally, no I'm not lonely, I've very happy thank you for asking buddy! ...What? I'm American now for saying Buddy? Sorry for confusing you, pal.

  • @SimoMcGauneo calm down mate

  • Press 8 and hold. LOL.

  • 7:24 made me LOL

  • RIP you will always be the godfather

  • @EpicF4iLx23

Until some douchebag director remakes the Godfather with Shia Le Beuf as Vito xD it will happen.

  • I have to pause ever 10 seconds to reflect on what i've just heard.

  • Connie Chung was the wrong person to interview Brando. She doesn't get it, and never will.

  • @DavidLovins67 i find, that conni chung makes brando sheepish....they are to flirt..im sorry im germa,my englisch nit very good

  • I PLAYED WITH MY BUDDY FRANK SINATRA HE LOVED BRANDO BECAUSED HE NEVER TOOK SHIT FROM ANYONE FOR FRANK AND ME MARLON WAS A REAL MAN NOT A FAKE THAT,S IS THE WAY IT WAS BACK IN THE DAY..SEE PHIL ON YOUTUBE SINATRA AND PHIL AMBROS MARLON WE WILL AWAYS REMEMBER YOU YOU WERE A KING AND SINATRA TO

  • Christ, what a cynical bastard. Anything he spouts, people listened to and venerated as if he was a fount of knowledge and truth. While I'm certain he was an interesting character, I feel he must have been very difficult to be around and so had to be taken in small doses...

  • 8:24 - Humility:

"Don't you realize that you're thought of as the greatest actor ever?"

"*name of the dog* is the greatest actor ever.. He pretends he's listening.. wants something to eat..

    Get out of here!"

  • Brando talks about how everybody Acts and he's 100% right, I've always realized this im only 25. it baffles me how this women, Dick Cavett, Larry King don't understand this and argue with Marlon about this when he brings it up....one of the best actors ever, a pioneer of acting, is telling them what acting is...and they're fucking arguing, and telling him no thats not it....seriously i wish Brando would just bitch smack these people and walk away...

  • At 7:00, Brando's David Letterman impersonation is beyond priceless!

  • She's pretty miserable - HE IS A GENIUS

  • How did he get so fat?

  • @Chris2O09 Food retard.

  • @Chris2O09 Food retard.

  • @jforeskin Oh food.. and there was me thinking it was because you are a cunt.

  • @Chris2O09 I couldn't imagine what you were thinking. My hungry "cunt" had nothing to do with him being fat...f*cktard.

  • @Chris2O09

because his dad was an alcoholic...and he had a lot of anger towards him and that...and he was anti-drug...so food made everything o.k.

  • What year is this?

  • @mpxoxo 89

  • I don't believe in such thing as greatest actor of all time or that we could rank them into order they all great in their own way and marlon brando was very interesting individual who had a great sense of life in general

  • He was , and he is always the best, a real BEAUTIFUL genius !

  • 5:55 is the most classic part! That makes Brando who he is and how he stands apart from any other actor. He's more focused on and interested in something other than the thing he's supposed to be focused on at the moment! :D

  • legend

  • I remember years ago when he was alive he was considered such a kook for his views as they are. They are totally relevant now, he'd be visionary

  • the simply best

to him, act is like live...so easy, so simple, it's just act....

    BUT IT DOES NOT

you know why he said it? because he's the fuck best actor ever

    the way that he act..

  • "i coulda had class! i coulda been a somebody!!" -The Greatest:)

  • It doesn't get any more real than this.

  • it's really sad when he says that he is happier than he ever has been in his life----she says he is 65 here, which dates it to 1989[90?]and this was just before the whole period with his son killing that guy[for beating up Brando's daughter].Brando was heartbroken.

  • why do the interviewers never get it when he says everyone acts??

  • god i hate connie chung

  • @LukeLegere

Why? Because she's Chinese or because her husband is Jewish?

  • marllon brando i =s still in 2010 the bench mark of subtle expressive ane honest screen acting ...since i was a kid 10 yrs old brando was the name i heard in hushed tones of reverance but as i close in on 40 yrs old it astounds me that nobody has exceeded his mark in the western acting world i'm open to any comments to argue the point on more complete screen performances ta ta xx michael

  • how old is this interview ?

  • he''s right ANYONE CAN ACT....i dont think he was ever really happy

  • what an amazing man

  • he simplifies acting, he would be a great teacher, much better in an interview than de niro and pacino, who i like better, but brando talked sense

  • haha

ill try that as my next pickup line

"god thats an ugly dress, your really repulsive."

damn, now i know why mystery gets all the girls

  • @Danetto

well hes bound to get some, i mean, annoying everyone of them women until one says yes. hes bound to get a couple desperate ones doing that. he can thanks alcohol for that. but ill be very surprised if theres one woman on earth thats sexually attracted to mystery.

brando, on the other hand, even old and obese you know he had no problem getting women as he was an alpha male and no amount of fat he had on him would have changed that fact.

  • @esibrecher yeah. i think i get more girls than mystery too...

  • @Danetto

hes a moron and fills people heads with bullshit. girls naturally have the mother's genes, do i need to say more? if a girl refuses to follow her natural path, that is to seek and approach the guy she wants, then i dont want that.

  • @esibrecher you're a fucking moron you frickin rottin cunt ! how dare you dis Brando? shouldn't u be out there licking your kid sister's asshole ???

  • Lol he's such a jokester. I love him

  • Comment removed

  • Jesus! This man was sexy, smooth, incredibly talented and spoke at least 4 languages fluently: English, German, French and Tahitian. What was his IQ, 170? I wouldn't be surprised. Brando was the classiest man you could ever meet

  • Dont be ridiculous.

  • One of the most easy-to-listen-to human beings we've ever known. Beside some rather odd editing choices, this interview was classic Marlon: breezy, philosophical, entertaining, challenging, and over way too soon. Sublime, clownish, thoroughly honest.

  • BEST EVER

  • Brando is the most intriguing character I've ever heard of. His acting was amazing and yet he was so modest about it because he looked at life differently than most people. Definitely his autobiography is the only 100% truthful thing I've ever read.

  • your to smart for your own gooooood!

  • I'm not in love with him.....really! haha. After reading his autobiography I can claim 100% that if i had lived in his day I wouldn't have wanted him like that because his lifestyle was quite promiscuous lol... now stop stalking me on youtube =p

  • nioooo! u!

  • Hey, I'm allowed to have a soft spot for one person that I do not know. I choose Marlon Brando because he's gorgeous. Mwahahaha!

  • i dont understand where you got off saying im not in love with him??? cuase alls i said was your to smart for your own good

  • Why's that? I would consider whatever intellect I supposedly possess to be an asset.

  • wow i seriously think your crazy now

  • @shainahasnousername who is the autobigoraphy written by please?

  • @Joekirby06 I don't remember the author but the book was entitled: "Songs My Mother Taught Me" and it was an excellent insight into the life and thoughts of Brando.

  • @shainahasnousername thank you very much :)

  • @shainahasnousername

    brando wrote it

  • @shainahasnousername I'm reading it right now and I agree. He isn't trying to portray himself as right or justify his career decisions. Had he been raised in a remotely functional family he would never have gone into acting. A line of work like that was a waste of his genius

  • @shainahasnousername Actually it;s not 100% true. He lied about certain things to protect people's images. Like that Stella Adler, Carlo Fiore, etc, etc.

  • @shainahasnousername and you know his autobiography is 100% because?.....He was an actor and admitted bullshit artist

  • every answer, he took his time.... he thought about it. he was honest. in every interview, he spoke slow, calm, intellectually. his memories are sincere, like every smile, every laugh. he was an actor, but acting wasnt him. very honest, classy-nobullshit man. reminds me of my grandfather... very down to earth. RIP Marlon

  • @Shorre21 you are so right!! And as a young actor he is an inspiration to all.

  • @Rnb295 brando was a badass, none like him.... NONE.

  • she should have let brando do the talking.. ALL THE TALKING, who the fuck edited so much of it out .. noooooooooooOOOOOOOONOOOOO

  • what an idiot.. "do you know why", after he just explained that he didn't know.. i'm thankful that this interview is here though, for us all to see and learn from, and his autobiographie is another great book, for any of you that haven't read it.. random house is probably minting money off it though

  • dick cavett did a much much much better job

  • my 5 year old cussin can interview better than Connie Chung

  • Heavens to Murgatroid! Ol' Marlon certainly did put on the pounds towards the end of his life. More chins than the Hong Kong phone book!

  • real deal dude

  • This is a really cool interview. He seemed so candid with no trace of pretention whatsoever!

  • Connie Chung is really an embarrassment. Wow.

  • DAVID LETTERMAN? how long has he been around for????? haha

  • Hi Brando fans! WWBD, what would Brando do? He would want you to support the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, where he studied with the legendary Stella Adler. • Everybody should watch Laurel & Hardy after a bad day. It works wonders.

  • haha "tim's the greatest actor of all time. He pretends to love me when he wants something to eat." nicely done mr. brando

  • I totally envy Jack Nicholson for being Brando's next door neighbour. Jack wrote a beautiful essay about Marlon which you can find on his website.

  • This whole interview is hilarious!!! HAHAHA @ 5:55 "What's That?" lmao!!

  • AMEN

  • she seems brainless, I'm embarrassed for her.

he is so amazing, clever too!

  • You're an errand boy sent by grocery clerks to collect a bill.

  • This is hilarious. The interviewer doesn't seem to know anything at all. Another unintelligent interview, what an insult to Marlon Brando!

  • i like the dick chevett one. I think that's how you spell his last name.

  • What the hell was he doing about Letterman...made absolutely no sense...

  • mainly corpo stooges are dummed

  • the interviewer is cute.

  • does she fart at 8:24?

  • hahaha kinda sounds like it

  • He is so funny.

  • This interview was done in 1989...right before his son killed Dag Drollet

  • heheheh "the dog is the greatest actor ever: he pretents he loves me when he wants something to eat...now shooos"

  • 65 and looking and sounding good. its no wonder he give very few interveiws if there all as dum as chung.

  • Connie Chung is so dumb.

She kept interrupting him when he got into interesting thoughts like predestination....wanting him to talk Hollywood gossip.

And when he does his funny imitation of Letterman she looks like she has no clue! "Dave doesn't do that"....

When this was re-shown due to popular demand they cut out the parts where he mocks Hollywood producers.

And what have we got now? Tom Cruise and his Scientology.

  • seriously, its the same thing with the larry king interview...its like they dont want to comprehend his honest philosophy or what hes really saying, and just play the media's devil advocate.

  • Interview technique;

Dumb it down for the Lowest Common Denominator.

In spite of Connie Clueless..he shines.

  • the interviewer is annoying!!!!

  • type 'drew schofield contenders' into you tube watch and smile funny funny stuff

  • I love the way he didn't give a shit...and had a low opinion of acting - bravo brando.....

  • For him it was obvious that acting is something we all could do and that it was a profession just like any other. It wasnt amusing to him and he didnt really want to waste time talking about it.

Thats words from a real human bein!

  • During interview in 1973 he've mentioned that it's all about bissines. Now he've changed his mind saying that If would of done it just for the money it would be a waste of time.

  • Youre reading in to much of what he says. Its obvious the question is not really something hes 100% sure about.

  • No the thing is, back then in 73 he was pretty young and the whole movie bissines was the money bissines and he worked like a bee.Now when the life is coming close to the edge he thinks that he did it just to enjoy life?!Thats kinda funny to analize.

  • When Marlon talkes about in this moment: 8:35

    He is absolutely right...

    nobody realises that !

    Its sick!

  • Jup. But to fully understand why people think that way is because the society and media tells you daily how you are supposed to look, what you are supposed to like and whats ugly and not. People dont dare to live their own life, they want to fit in no matter the age. And it has been like that for ages. And thats how Society works and the people who choose to live in it. Just take a look at the media Image they made out of marlon. Nonsense.

  • seriously hes such a brilliant man, he is one of the most interesting offstage personas and i love hearing his thoughts on life...he has such an honest and ethical approach to life.

  • Thats how it is whith a poetic brain like that.

  • very smart man.glad i could learn something.favorite movie is the wild one.

i am always on the road

  • Rest in Peace GodFather..

  • Is there any spanish subtitles?

  • LOL at his letterman thing.

  • everbody is an actor in this life!!!

    exactly!! he is a legend!!

  • So true,...I can turn on the tears anytime...my boyfriend thinks it's funny...he said he's gonna drive me to HOLLYWOOD!...LOL

  • slipknot wrote a song about his eyes...i love it!

  • A legend.

  • I can't believe how low brow most of the comments on here are, wow.

  • This aired in October of 1989. I remember watching it at the time. A memorable interview. Funny too.

  • anyone know when this was aired?

  • Chung is slow.

  • he is a great man with a great thoughts

    wow. a real genuine human

    god bless his sould

  • I was looking at Marlon here thinking that he looks, at this age only, really, a little like Peter Boyle and remembered that he and John Belushi did the dueling Brandos on Saturday Night Live.

  • The greatest screen actor of all

  • tim's the greatest actor ever. he pretends to love me...wants something to eat. get out of here. ha ha lol. he's so funny. love brando.

  • Marlon barndo His the best actor of ever

  • ha ha the letterman face is hilarious. it's wonderful how he is disconnected with the peripherals of an actor's life. it's endearing to see him living a life of his own and not that of his onscreen personna. he is real and detached from his craft. the critics were assholes not to realise that.

  • "hi, how are you"

    "son of a bitch" hahaha

  • lol, at 5:56

  • ok this women is fuken pissing me off wat the hell is her problem, im from aus and never heard of her before, is she always like this?

  • she's better than larry king at least. is she always like what?

  • so rude to the ppl she is interviewing i mean and the way she looks at marlon, mole.... and what is wrong with larry king? he is da champ

  • i don't see how she's rude but ok lol. larry king interrupts ppl unlike connie chung (the interviewer here), lets marlon speak his mind.

  • I no shes the interviewer haha but thanx for pointing that out.....yer its good how she lets him speak his mind but the facial expressions she gives during the interview shit me

  • no problem :)

& yea i see what you mean about her facial expressions lol.

  • I bow my head in front of him for such modesty! It is indeed the sickness of not only America but probably the downside of human nature to categorize people instead of just enjoying the life the way Brando did.

  • he values life for all the right reasons.

  • He's just simply amazing

  • Such a great soul.

  • I love Brando his work was just amazing I'm a particularly big fan of The Wild One.

  • One of the reasons I love Marlon so much is because he didn't take acting seriously. He really did understand the insignificance of life.

Tim the dog is ace. Marlon was a great animal lover.

  • Brando could really be a genuine asshole. He won't answer a direct question. Sometimes he is just joking but, other times he is just being difficult. He was possibly the greatest actor of our time. But he didn't seem to respect his craft. And he didn't appreciate how much his fellow actors respected him.

  • i think he could appreciate the fact that he was respected but i think it bothered him that no one ever saw the job of say joe the plumber as important as being an actor. acting isnt real, its make believe but if the plumber doesnt come your toilet doesnt flush. he was real and its sad that no one wanted to be real with him for maybe it might have made for less awkwardness. he was a great human. despite all i think he loved life, acting was just one facet of it like sneezing.

  • Your's is the best answer that any one has posted in response to my comments.

  • and may peace be unto you my friend.

  • In most interviews, Marlon seems reluctant to talk about his work, but this interview is an exception. Its one of my favorite interviews with him. Marlon Brando - one of the best actors of all time...if not the best actor of all time.

  • greatest actor ever! good interview....shame about the interviewer tho..she has no clue! i love brando

  • "Oh I'm so glad you could come, Meg - sit down please!"

  • Ahaha his Letterman face is UNCANNY - 2:15...
