@BERNARDOANUK aunque hay que admitir que esa aria tiene que ser interpretada de una manera muy sensual (cosa que a MÍ parecer Anna sí hizo) vocalmente sí faltó un poco de interpretación, pero su actuación fue muy acorde a esta aria. en lo que sí no concuerdo contigo es en que para MÍ el aria más bonita de La Bohéme puede ser o "Sí... mi chiamano Mimí" o si no "Sono andati?... fingevo d dormire" pero ese soy YO. feliz tarde!

@BERNARDOANUK para mí también es la Soprano más bella de todas, si hablamos de todos los tipos de voces, también entra la mezzo-soprano Elina Garanca y la Mezzo-Soprano búlgara Nadia Krasteva, también (que para mí no es 100% ópera, pero ha cantado ópera muy bien) la mezzo Katherine Jenkins, qué puedo decir? las voces de las mezzo me parecen más sexys que las de las sopranos. jajaja

Around seven years ago I was watching the "Classic Arts Showcase" channel that comes on when the local PBS station signs off each night. It was probably around 4 o'clock in the morning when this clip started playing. And I was stunned and memorized. Though I have loved classical music most of my life, opera had always been tough for me to enjoy. But I sat there stunned and mesmerized by what I was seeing and hearing. This clip has started a love affair with opera I hope continues forever.
@Zelomeisterdude How funny! That was my first exposure to her too. We didn't have enough money for cable, just had 8 channels, and one of her performances came on. I HATE opera, but I was transfixed. I wish I could find that original clip, though. It wasn't this performance.

@lanzanut I cannot agree with you more. She is so breathtaking. It is like she becomes one with the music - both physically and spiritually. She is just exquisite ! As for the critics, they are always going to be there just like haters and jealous people who are married to their idols and not the music. I heard she was not well. I hope it is nothing serious.

I like a dozen other sopranos out there a whole lot better. Men just like Netrebko's pretty face/figure and women are too emotional to see what she really is--mostly hype. Netrebko is SOOO over rated. I laugh reading her crazy fans drivel.

@ad80ad sarah brightman is a soprano there is more to a soprano than jusy classical music, if you listen to some of her early work she was trainned as a classical singer but chose to do the whole popera thing like charlotte church and kathrine jenkins, but she is still a soprano as that is her vocal range
@ad80ad Thanks for your comments. I'm not comparing anyone, just saying they are 3 of my favorite voices. Their repertoire obviously varies considerably and doesn't make for a valid comparison. I could say that my 3 favorite singers were Pavaroti, Josh Groban and Bo Didley, but that wouldn't mean that their perfomances were in any way related to each other.
My 3 favorite sopranos and I have to qualify this because in my ignorance I may be passing many great ones: Anna Netrebko, Sarah Brightman and Bodil Arnesen.
@pbj4toast I think Sarah Brightman was classically trained but she is more of a musical/pop singer which is something different to a proper opera singer. Agree with dione007 that Katherine Jenkis is more pop than opera, I seriousl doubt she would master a whole opera performance. But each to their own taste... Lovely Anna is certainly an opera singer - good one actually.

I have listen their voices. They are very good, but each singer has its own and unique voice. If you don't like Anna is OK, but I like it a lot as well the three you mentioned.

@orewa14 I guess so. You can never change someone's idea over what voice or personality they like or don't like. I was a little surprised at Dame Kiri's remarks. If know tht she praised a few other sopranos also. I take what some of the men say with a grain of salt, as they are often more interested in the young ladies. Georg Solti must have said that about 50 sopranos were the "greatest he had ever heard". All hype.

And if you don't understand it let me explain it to you. No offense intended. PJ isn't a REAL CT only because he sings mainly BAROQUE arias in a FALSETTO TECHNIQUE! Such singers are called FALSETTISTS and he should be in the same category of POP SINGERS who perform it in light style. REAL CTS have all 3 registers:high, middle and low....

REAL OPERA SINGERS have PROPER TECHNIQUE for it, BREATH CONTROL, use DIAPHRAGM, all CHEST CAPACITY to express their SOUL, TRUE EMOTIONS according to the IMAGE! PJ just plays SUPERFICIALLY on his VOCAL CORDS without any DEPTH of classical singing, using only his HIGH NOTES, and some MIDDLE! He has no LOW NOTES at all!It's pure POP,not classic!
@adonis1940 What were you drinking before you watched Netrebko? She's ok. This effusive stuff from her fans makes me laugh. Put it this way, Netrebko's maybe the best of a mediocre crop of current sopranos who can't compare to legends of the past. But we're stuck with them. Netrebko has a big voice but its certainly NOT fantastic and she uses it the wrong way--and little vocal technique. She also does the wrong repoirtre (Bel Canto) which is unsuited for her voice. Try a little analysis!

1- You are right about Anna Netrebko: she is one of the greatest soprano
2- Sarah Brightman is NOT a soprano, but a pop singer
3- If you want to promote Bodil Arnesen, it's better that you don't compare her with Sarah Brightman.
4- Talking as a friend, it's better that you don't compare her with Anna Netrebko too.
5- Don't worry, you don't miss many great sopranos: especially today they are a very rare species.

@ad80ad sarah brightman is a soprano there is more to a soprano than jusy classical music, if you listen to some of her early work she was trainned as a classical singer but chose to do the whole popera thing like charlotte church and kathrine jenkins, but she is still a soprano as that is her vocal range

@ad80ad Thanks for your comments. I'm not comparing anyone, just saying they are 3 of my favorite voices. Their repertoire obviously varies considerably and doesn't make for a valid comparison. I could say that my 3 favorite singers were Pavaroti, Josh Groban and Bo Didley, but that wouldn't mean that their perfomances were in any way related to each other.

My 3 favorite sopranos and I have to qualify this because in my ignorance I may be passing many great ones: Anna Netrebko, Sarah Brightman and Bodil Arnesen.

@pbj4toast I think Sarah Brightman was classically trained but she is more of a musical/pop singer which is something different to a proper opera singer. Agree with dione007 that Katherine Jenkis is more pop than opera, I seriousl doubt she would master a whole opera performance. But each to their own taste... Lovely Anna is certainly an opera singer - good one actually.

CANNOT OPEN up enough Brain bandwidth to fully enjoy this - it's that good! Thank you PUCCINI!!! And the medium of OPERA for something good in life ... it sure beats a pat-down from the airport TSA staff, etc. (totally unrelated, I know, but then again, there is alot of "Peasant Opera" going around in the law enforcement world these days - I guess they need some wins once in their pathetic lives ...(no offense)

@orewa14 I guess so. You can never change someone's idea over what voice or personality they like or don't like. I was a little surprised at Dame Kiri's remarks. If know tht she praised a few other sopranos also. I take what some of the men say with a grain of salt, as they are often more interested in the young ladies. Georg Solti must have said that about 50 sopranos were the "greatest he had ever heard". All hype.

But it doesn't mean that you should write here that she is NOT WELL TRAINED. Why not just be honest?! Just mention that for you it's not the best version and it's not your cup of tea? Perhaps you prefer a cup of COFFEE? LOL E.g.I don't like Bjoerling but I don't say that he isn't well trained! What Boyle?! You serious? AN is a classically trained singer!

LOL Kiri Te Kanawa can tell true classically trained opera singers from cheap pop opera promoted ones just to attract ignorant people to theatres and concert halls like Brightman, Boyle, Jenkins, Church, Watson, Bocelli, Vitas, Philippe Jaroussky... They are NOT OPERA SINGERS, but only POP SINGERS. Well, if people can't see the difference and think that they are from the same category too bad for them! But we can! Brava Anna!

@ufcountertenor I guess that if you yourself sing mainly only high notes you think that CT singing is only producing HIGH NOTES! But you are wrong in it. And if you don't understand it let me explain it to you. No offense intended. PJ isn't a REAL CT only because he sings mainly BAROQUE arias in a FALSETTO TECHNIQUE! Such singers are called FALSETTISTS and he should be in the same category of POP SINGERS who perform it in light style. REAL CTS have all 3 registers:high, middle and low....

@ufcountertenor There's a big difference between a classically trained singer (a CT in this case) and a pop singer performing classical stuff in POP STYLE! REAL OPERA SINGERS have PROPER TECHNIQUE for it, BREATH CONTROL, use DIAPHRAGM, all CHEST CAPACITY to express their SOUL, TRUE EMOTIONS according to the IMAGE! PJ just plays SUPERFICIALLY on his VOCAL CORDS without any DEPTH of classical singing, using only his HIGH NOTES, and some MIDDLE! He has no LOW NOTES at all!It's pure POP,not classic!

@adonis1940 What were you drinking before you watched Netrebko? She's ok. This effusive stuff from her fans makes me laugh. Put it this way, Netrebko's maybe the best of a mediocre crop of current sopranos who can't compare to legends of the past. But we're stuck with them. Netrebko has a big voice but its certainly NOT fantastic and she uses it the wrong way--and little vocal technique. She also does the wrong repoirtre (Bel Canto) which is unsuited for her voice. Try a little analysis!

Evidentemente le tue orecchie sono talmente rovinate dal vibrato SCANDALOSO della maggior parte dei cantanti degli ultimi tempi, che sentire una nota PULITA, CHIARA e PERFETTAMENTE INTONATA, è per te una cosa intollerabile. Del resto, a molte donne fa rabbia vedere un paio di gambe perfettamente dritte e tornite, quindi niente di strano. L'invidia è vecchia come il mondo ;-) Doppia invidia quindi: le gambe della Netrebko sono perfette almeno quanto la sua intonazione. Capita ;-p
