Feeding cages are used by some because a snake may develop a trigger response to the opening of their enclosure and strike at the handler's hand, thnking that it is delivering prey/is actually prey. I use one as a precaution just to ensure that my snakes don't develop this.

To those that are posting that you need a feeding cage, I just wanted to let you know this is a not needed. No snake ever needs to be taken to seperate cage for feeding if the cage they are in is set up the way it should be.

i agree with you, a feeding cage is not needed, but with that kind of substrate that they are using, they should feed outside. pretty much anything thats not newspaper or carpet is not a good idea to have in the tank that you feed your snake. the pieces of substrate can get caught/lodged in the snakes mouth and cause damage/illness. but like i said, i agree, you dont have to feed in a seperate cage.
