I've lived in the NY area for many years and your NY city street looks pretty damn convincing to me. As for the steam, a century old central steam system is still used for some power and heating in New York. The steam rising up from the streets is from rainwater etc. falling onto the hot steam pipes, and creating more steam that rises up from the manhole covers. The red and white tubes are used when there are workers below and they need to divert the steam so they can see what they are doing.

Nice video, but I got a question: Instead of putting so much efford in letting that Film look like its taking place in Amerika, why don't you just let it take place in Europe? I don't know what you thing, but in my oppinion, there are enough films, that play there. Nevertheless, keep goin, I think its gonna be an awsome Film!

I think ist more expensive to do this in the USA. To shipping or flighting the crew, the equipment etc. is very expensive. An if a large section of the main-crew is based here in germany, so it´s a little bit cheaper.

And i think to close places like Time Square for film schooting can be very expensiv too, quite contrary to Kaiserstraße or Taunusstraße in FfM.

@damacguy Not exactly. Those huge red tubes expelling vapour are evacuation towers from the NYC Heating/Cooling system by Edison Conglomerate. Steam travels through the system at 538°C and is used to heat and cool some of New York’s most famous buildings, like the Empire State. Its a really, really old system. They even have a museum of that...

The tubes are for the steam from the sewers. It pipes the steam so it's above street level and doesn't obscure traffic and pedestrians.
