ROGER HAD no competition 'till Nadal and Djoker came along...williams sisters had competition (Davenport, Hiingis, Henin, Clijsters, Capriati, Sharapova) but they still beat their competition with regularity - DONT BLAME THE PLAYERS, BLAME THE GAME! COZ OF THE WILLIAMSES, WOMEN'S TENNIS HAD MORE TV RATINGS THAN MEN'S, WERE ALSO SELLING MORE TIX....so cut your crap....WILIAMS SISTERS ARE ABSENT LEVEL OF PLAY HAS DROPPED AND PEOPLE ARE BACK TO MEN'S TENNIS!
When you have woman's matches that are over this quickly, I couldn't imagine paying for tickets to see them or for the women expecting equal prize money as the men. They aren't playing equal amounts of tennis.
@nelle069214 Oh please. When you have scores of 6-1, 6-1 or 6-0, 6-3 who are you trying to fool? You may wish to pay to see such a final and if so, by all means attend it, but I would never wish to pay to see such a lopsided final. If the score were 7-5, 7-6 and lasted 1 hour and 1/2 then perhaps I'd be willing to see it, but for one woman like Serena to blow her opponent off the court to me wouldn't be worth it to see. That's MY opinion. Thanks for reaching out to me.
@ifluvinguiswrong You pay to see a tennis match. And that's exactly what you get. Everyone knows that a tennis match could end right after the first 3 games. You're not paying for the time you spend there. But I have my opinion and you have yours. I can respect that.
@ifluvinguiswrong I agree somewhat...the women should play 5 sets at GS as well...then we'll really see whose mentally and physically worthy....I think a great deal of the women can do it actually. If they can last 2 hours+ in their best of threes, then they can for sure play best of five...the others would have to find a way to keep up...it'd be exciting.
On the other hand...I like drama in sports (and MANY others do)....and it's obvious that the women win that battle hands down.
@ifluvinguiswrong The close-minded sports buffs prefer it to be just about the sport itself...with little to no emotion...that's boring. What the women do on the court does sell tickets...and anyone whose mad at them for being able to do it are jealous.
And I stand by my point about the women being able to last: Schiavone, Kuznetsova, Serena, Venus, Clijsters, Li, Pennetta, Stosur, Jankovic, Zheng, Petrova, Medina Garrigues....that's just alot of the "older" ones...the list goes on.
@QuadThreat85 I haven't disagreed with you. I just don't like 45 minute matches or 20 minute sets, which you too often see on the women's tour where one woman throttles the other. That's just how I see it.
@ifluvinguiswrong I know what you mean...I think that's more so due to the fact that women's tennis is TRYING to go through a transition...and I say trying because it's taking too long. The men went through it already...2004-2010 range. Starting with Federer, then Nadal matching Federer's level in a different style. then Djokovic combining these two styles to raise the level AGAIN...these three unintentionally shaped the way the men's game has to be played for quite some time
@ifluvinguiswrong Now the women's transitions as of late have been rocky...basically since the emergence of Graf.
Seles was supposed to be to Graf what Nadal is to Federer, then maybe someone else would have come seemingly out of nowhere (like Djokovic) to raise the Graf-Seles bar a tad bit higher
Gaps in transition such as this create too much confusion in the game plans of players, thinking too much about a possible window of opportunity and failing to rise to the occasion.
I LOVE AUSSIE TENNIS FANS...they love their champions espec SERENA (5 AUSSIE OPENS TITLES) THIS IS NO DOUBT THE BEST SLAM IN THE WORLD GO GO AUSSIE!!!!!!
Don't worry Serena. There is no music in Australia. We give the winners as much time as they want. That's why the speech is always good. Unlike in America "Please, be quick. blah blah blah." Remember Del Potro's speech? They didn't want to give him time to thank his people in Spanish. If I were him, I would speak Spanish all the time, get a translator if you want to understand.

@ifluvinguiswrong There are so many women's matches that have lasted longer than the men's. To say they don't deserve equal prize money is ridiculous.
#FACT: The 2005 women's final at Wimbledon lasted 45 minutes longer than the men's final.
