  • OMGUSH THAT'S THE YEAR I WAS BORN!

  • STEVE GADD

  • This performance of Late in the Evening, was the final time Richard Tee performed live before his death in 1993. Rest in Peace Richard.

  • i hear this song at work everyday i hadto look it up lol!

  • ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ *** AMAZING SONG AWARD ***

  • @MultiFishing11 ---I play bass guitar to this about 4 times a week----- love it

  • LOVE THAT PERCUSSION!

  • This song popped in my head & I headed to youtube to hear this feel goodie!

  • @clynnehouse So did I!

  • @ArtsPatron2008 really? wow. yeah it is good stuff

  • does anyone else think Paul Simon looks like a young John McCain?

  • @samm1809 no

  • @Vip3rAce lol well i looked it up and a lot of people do. they look like twins now XD

  • Every single person playing on stage is asking themselves, "And I get paid for this, too?"

  • paul is without aquestion one of the greatest song writers of all time!

  • Drummers have a price to pay. They set the foundation to let others fly free. It happens time and time again. When the feel is perfect the star shines. The drummer must know within himself were the credit resides initially and be at peace with their place. Thankfully Steve Gadd does get public credit for the groove he sets. Many drummers, unknown drummers, rarely do. It's up to them to feel the internal satisfaction. I've learned that lesson and am at peace with it. Bless Steve Gadd.

  • @johnnyzing This is a perfect analysis of professional drumming. I totally agree. My satisfaction as a drummer comes from knowing that I help create the atmosphere for people to express their talent on other instruments. Thanks for the insightful comment.

  • Sweet good song, taking me back to times when all the memories were good

  • Sweet good song, taking me back tmes when all the memories were good

  • Chris Botti on trumpet!!! COOL!

  • Paul Simon's music has that unique quality of making you feel good. Utterly amazing.

  • See Gadd playing with double sticks.....awesome

  • Fab drummer!!

  • wow...such great music...nothing like it! Steve Gadd..Michael Brecker..Richard Tee....Paul Simon....what a band...what energy..Thnx for posting this video...how can I get this whole concert??

  • love the way it seems like a bunch of mates gettin together for jam

  • The most "New York" of all his songs.

Close my eyes and I can see the PR's strolling.

  • This song was 30 years ago no.8 in the world charts

  • This song was 30 years ago no.8 in the world charts

  • i look at the drummer and i'm lucky if i can walk and chew gum at the same time.

    incredible timing and rhythm.

  • This song was 30 years ago no.10 in the world charts

  • they blew that room away!

  • this band makes everyone else look like wankers

  • Paul Simon always surrounds himself with the very best musicians! This video & song is a great example of such!

  • best drummer ever!steve gadd i love him!

  • there is absolutely nothing like watching truley gifted musicians play!

  • its all about Gadd

  • I fucking love playing bass to this gets me real funky

  • Is that Chris Botti on Trumpet?

  • @rustysexton

    YES

  • @rustysexton Yes. That's Chris Botti on trumpet & Michael Brecker on sax. They were part of Paul's touring band back in the early 90's. You can see them in Paul's "Concert in Central Park" video as well.

  • OMG LOVE THIS version! Ty so much!

  • Holy Crap, thats Cyro Baptista on percussion! Damn he gets around!

  • @onthe165 But what is he wearing, hat was he thinking..

  • I must've played this video 50 or more times since yesterday....

    Can't get enough!

  • Almost perfect- this is in my "ALL TIME TOP 5 TUNES OF MY LIFE." One of the first things I can remember is music seeping through- sometimes Paul Simon (thanks Mum x ). I always thought he sang "mean guitar" instead of "rhythm guitar"- isn't it funny how misheard lyrics stick with you for about 30 years, til you find out what he really said! The only thing that upsets me about this post is what one of the percussionists is wearing, please refrain from looking at him.

  • This is Paul Simon's GREATEST song ever

  • WOW !

  • Happy 420 Evryone

  • Im learning to play this on drums its so much fun!

  • drummer has some good chops

  • well he IS steve gadd....

  • @oma15 - That's like saying Mother Theresa was a pretty good old gal.

  • is that the mozimbique groove??

  • yes i think so, tommy igoe explains that the mozambique was used in this track on his dvd (the first groove essentials) :D

  • jepp, it is!

  • ROCKIN' IT!! Steve makes it all look so easy! going to next class reunion??

  • Why did they never make a dvd of this FANTASTIC concert!?!

    Great upload!

    Superband, Gadd, Tee, Brecker!!!

  • God!!! doesn´t anyone have the concert in central park???? i have it in vhs so i can´t upload it ...but it is soo much better .. please a kind soul?

  • ...some rhythm guitar... Ain't lead no more! ;-)

  • man, why musicians like paul are so rarely nowadays. there are some good ones but most of them are not that charismatic and so talented and fantastic like paul and others from his generation.

  • i was at this tour in pittsburgh 1992...and still to this day it was the greatest peformance i've ever witness. and i've witness some great ones

  • ...mmm so good to see the man smile, guess thats what happens when you are so 100% happy with what you are doing so enjoyingl, along side other wonderful musicians in what seems to be an intimate venue, for an appreciating NOT stadium audience.

    many thanks for posting again...

  • My son took me to Paul's concert at Pepsi Arena at Albany,NY,,BY FAR the best concert I ever saw..6 Drummers,wow-- I saw "old" lawyers and doctors up dancin'

in the asiles..He rocked.saw him at S.P.A.C. couple years later --audience

loved him-HE loved US..you could tell.

The Inside concert was way better although he did come out again and again in response to our applause at

    Saratoga.He seems to be genuine...

like Vince Gill-Juat a nice guy who can't

    hide it.Paul-you're the best!!

  • watching this once more... it just makes me feel fo full, so full of happiness, thats a grest thing to be able to do...

    wonderful

  • thanks for posting this great and all star lineup

    Paul Simon Rocks!!!

  • THIS clip is THE JAM!! ;-) ;-)

  • I don't no how you manage all the instruments:)

  • I bet he can't perform this without someone in the crowd responding to the line " I stepped outside and smoked myself a J"! lol

  • It's nice to see Paul smiling and it's especially nice to see Richard Tee on the keys!!!!

  • @jabrother and R.I.P. mr. Tee of course....

  • @jabrother When I was a kid, my mom used to bring me to every Paul Simon concert that came to town. She'd always point out "Mr. T" on piano, and in some small way, we shared in the sorrow of his death the next time Paul came to town without him. Rest in peace, Richard Tee. We loved you.

  • oh my fucking god, oh my fucking god. i love this song so much. i saw paul simon one time and i was tripping BALLS. i was tripping to hard that my entire body was racked with pain, but it was still awesome. just imagine: you're tripping way, way too hard but still having a good time. if i had been anywhere else i would have had an awful time but just because of steve gadd i was able to ride it out and have fun. gadd is godd.

  • Steve Gadd again for the win :) Thank you Steve Gadd :)

  • older, but still so great, love his smile, makes me smile too

  • Excellent!

  • hell yea

  • wow

  • One of the finest pieces of music on YouTube

  • It was really, really good.

    Is that better? :)

  • I wish I could find this concert on DVD. Anyone know if it exists??

  • Trop, vraiment trop génial. J'adore Paul mais il manquait quelqu'un qui a un style incomparable dans sa façon de jouer de la guitare. Très discret, certes mais présent. C'est Eric Gale.

    Dommage.

  • He did this on Jimmy Fallon's show (with the Roots!) a couple weeks ago... they killed it.

  • Saw that too very unexpectedly-it was great!

  • Wow!!!! Great stuff. Chris Botti looks so young.

  • Paul simon's music is incredible, and Steve's amazing grooves add so much to it.

  • this is what its all about

    that bass sound is KILLER

  • nice 8vb

  • It feels amazing, You and your buddies are creating art, that only happins that one time.

  • simply brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Who's the trumpeter?

  • Chris Botti

  • pooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ...sounds like Paul let Richard Tee get a hold of this tune, ain't it !?!

  • I lived in Memphis when Graceland came out.- for a redneck in the south this yank just tore me up. The boxer with or without Art is still a classic.

  • Gadd and Brecker.....sweet !

  • good point

  • If he goes to smoke a J, then when he begins playing afterward maybe he'll just strum nonchalantly and go "Aaaaaah! Aaah, aaaaaaah! Aaah..."

  • The trumpet and sax players rock.

  • I love Art, but I can understand Paul going it solo. It would be hard to incorporate Art's voice on a song like this, or on an album like "Graceland".

  • Paul Simon is a musical genius.

  • paul simons a legend

  • Who gives a shit about Steve?

Its Paul Simon for Christ's sake.

  • Amazing performance...I wana be there right now!

  • Cool to look at different time periods of Paul and this particular song. Tempo change, his voice changes, different groves but Steve is always smokin!!!!!

  • Best version ever of this song!!! the groove is SOOOO good!!!!!!!!!!

  • Saw Simon and Dylan several years ago in Chicago. Best concert I have ever been to and will ever go to.

  • Great!!! Thanks for sharing! : )

  • Legendary,

Is there a dvd from this concert

  • Love watching Steve Gadd. So laid back what a groove.

  • I saw paul simon in about 1992 at wembly

  • steve gadd the genious !

    richard tee r.i.p ;(

    miss him...

  • wow Steve Gadd and the late and great Michael Brecker.

  • Steve Gadd is incredible, and so is Michael Brecker. We all miss him. What a ridiculous band. So good. Paul Simon is a wonderful songwriter.

  • Paul Simon is an awesome song writer but Steve Gadd is a legend!

  • Paul Simon is a legend too...

  • Comment removed

  • When did Yaphet Kotto start playing guitar with Paul Simon?

  • lol

  • I believe that it was right after he saved the pussy cat in "Alien".

I always thought highly of Yaphet after he saved the pussy cat... Evidently Paul did as well...

It would have been mildly ironic* if Paul had asked him to play violin, rather than guitar.

    * only mildly ironic, since catgut isn't actually made from the innards of felines.

  • Mike Brecker (rip), Armand Sabal-Leco, Steve Gadd, great line up !!!

  • Also the late Richard Tee, yeah.

  • Great sound in this unplugged!! Simon always with a big band behind him!!

  • HOLY EFFING SHIITE WOW!!!! love this.

  • good knee tapping tune

  • man how fun would that be to be steve gadd there. loads of fun in my opinion.

  • So true, but you could also say, "What fun would that be to be playing with Steve Gadd." One of the best ever!

  • yeah but that would mean that i would go from ripe old age of 15 to the rapidly declining age of 63. i guess i would have all of the memories which maybe could make it worth it. but im hoping to work my way up to steve gadd caliber one day ayway....

  • I love this song..."Then I learned to play some mean guitar, I was underage in this funky bar, and I stepped outside to smoke a J. And when I come back to the room and everyone just seem to move and I turned my amp up and I began to play...and it was late in the evening and I blew that room away."

  • great beat

  • Jeez how many people are in this band? It's enormous!

Very good song too...the late great Michael Brecker on sax if I'm not mistaken.

By the way, for those who might be interested, Steve Gadd is using a Mozambique, an afro-cuban groove which is really cool to play. (Actually Tommy Igoe tells you about this in one of his videos in youtube). And what are those sticks he's using???

  • It looks like he always uses two sticks in each hand for this song.

  • Hey, that's Chris Botti on Trumpet! I didn't realize he had played with Paul Simon....!

  • Steve Gadd!!!! the best, the master!!!!

    Steve Gadd, el mejor!!!

  • I never imagined this song in an all-acoustic version, but it sounds really good.
