  • I had the biggest crush on Ed Power and Vincent Baggeta on this soap.

  • i can never get enough of this theme song:)

  • in real life donna mills who plays laura adopted a daughter sometime in the 90's

  • i was born 16 years after this classic episode aired

  • Wow! Awesome. Thanks for posting this! I've been a fan of Leslie Charleson for 30+ years! It's so cool to see her in her early years as an actress! I was only 3 yrs. old when this was on! :)

  • @Cornball714 yep, i recognized it!..unless i'm mistaken, the theme to WTHI was recorded and not played everyday like the other shows with live music..Eddie Layton, with his piano-like sytle of playing, ended up being my favorite organist from this era..Secret Storm, LIAMST, Where the Heart is, and finally (but only for a year), Love of Life (1973-74, after WTHI and LIAMST were canceled)..does ANYONE know where episodes of these two shows might exist?

  • Thank you so very much!! I can't remember ever seeing any of this with LC/MB/DM all in it. It's so strange seeing Leslie when she had a softer voice.

So was the baby Mark's? What caused the breakup between Laura and Mark?

Who was the man in the first scene w/Laura, and what is the story with the neighbor and her husband and Spence and his wife? Did they ever have any dramas? I love the playfulness and teasing in those scenes...so rare on soaps, especially now.

  • @CarlD2 Iris' baby (Billy) was her husband Spence's child. Mark and Laura separated after Mark had an affair with Spence's stepmother Jean Garrison and was tried for her ex-husband's murder. The stress caused Laura to miscarry their child and become barren. The man speaking with Laura about Mark is Laura and Iris' police lieutenant brother Tom Donnelly. Tom is married to Mark's wealthy, widowed mother Helen Elliott. Tom was not comfortable with Helen's wealth.

  • The neighbor couple are Larry and Kim Hale. Larry was Mark's army buddy, and they opened an architectural firm together. After Laura and Mark split, Kim tried to fix up Laura with Larry's brother Dr. John Hale. John fell deeply in love with Laura, but she rejected him, causing John to leave San Francisco. He's the brother for whom Kim encourages Larry to write a letter. Kim realized her error and helped Mark and Laura reconcile. The Hales ceased appearing, but Kim had a cameo in the last show.

  • @saynotoursoap Thanks. That's too bad they stopped appearing - I think soaps need these type of characters. They remind me of what Stu and Marge must have been on SFT.

  • @CarlD2 I agree about the Hales, and I also enjoyed Helen and Tom's relationship, too. These quiet moments had little to do with the plot, but it made the characters seem fully fleshed and real, which in turn helped the viewer overlook the hoarier elements of plotting. I really miss those days. Contemporary soaps can't waste a single second on developing character because now they are completely plot driven, and many audience membesr do not have the patience to sit through scenes sans action.

  • @saynotoursoap So Tom and Helen were a May/December couple - I wonder if they were a first on soaps.

Thanks for all this info. It seems like Laura and Iris both went through so much in a short period of time. How did the blindness and terminal illness stories for Iris pan out?

  • @CarlD2 The LIAMST plot moved very quickly, especially for a 60's soap. Mark and Laura reconciled and adopted Billy. Then Iris learned that Dr. Peter Chernak developed an experimental laser surgery technique that might cure her. Pete performed the surgery, and Iris regained her vision. Naturally, she and Spence wanted Billy back. Laura went crazy, kidnapped him, and crashed her car. That is the story in the August 1970 episode I have online.

  • @saynotoursoap Thanks again. Did Iris stay with Spence to the end?

  • @CarlD2 Yes, Iris and Spence were stable until the end, and Spence never learned about Mark raping Iris or that he fathered Maggie.

  • @saynotoursoap the 1967 and 1970 episodes both end the same way! - first with Iris, then with Laura...
