This film is realy crap, I think. It is common knowledge, that the abbey is near a soccer stadium in Cefalu. If a film team do research first, they don't have to ask somebody.

@sydonabike They are, in fact, debating it. Some of the oldest, most reliable manuscripts of the Revelation have 616, NOT 666. The reason is that there are two ways of doing gematria (adding the value of letters in a name together) of the name "Emperor Nero", who was the beast referred to in the book. The Greek adds up to 666, the Latin to 616. To me, it's more than a coincidence and fits the facts the best.

It's always "people"!....In any case, if you didn't notice in my post, it is a fact that certain old and authentic manuscripts of the Revelation have 616 rather than 666. This has been known for a long time and is not in dispute. The interpretation is, and there are many theories out there. This is my own knowledge gained from taking a New Testament class in college as well as a lot of independant reading...peer-reviewed reading, btw.

That is not a controversial issue, it's accepted by Christian and secular scholars alike. I agree that it is easy to miss the point. I also know by "common sense" that God isn't the childish, murdering war-god that changes his mind about making people and sends the flood and lies to adam and eve...these are clearly the stories of benighted ancients.

But I don't think it's happening...too many different cultures with too many different apocalyptic stories, and none of them is any less crazy than the other, in their entirety. The world may well end, one way or another, but I think God, whatever that means, made us the way we are. If God was first, everything is God...why would he then reward and punish different parts of himself that acted out of ignorance? Seems silly.

@sydonabike If god is the ultimate reality, then where else could anything emanate from? Anyway, I have heard this free will argument many times. Where it falls flat, in my opinion, is at the fact that we are wired, like all animals, to seek pleasure, or reward, which is how our brains motivate us to survive. We make choices based on what we believe, at the time, to be the most rewarding, if even for a short time. Free will, to me, only takes place in the process of making "judgments".

For a believer, when they start deciding their "imaginated God" may not be exactly what they thought it was, they slack in faith.
For non believers...well...if they didn't have an idea of what it is they might believe in it. Fooled by their own imagry
