I couldn't help but notice some parallels between Edward VII and Prince Charles. Both are the sons of extremely long-reigning queens. Both have been heir apparent since childhood, yet neither would assume the throne until (at least) their sixties. Edward became a grandfather before he became a king, and there's a good chance the same will be true of Charles. Most interestingly, Edward is known to have had affairs with many women, one of which was the great-grandmother of Camilla Parker-Bowles...
hi toddsmitts - yes, the parallel is striking! and the Edward/Camilla/Charles connection makes the point all the more strongly! wonder if Charles has curbed his wandering ways - Edward did not. by the way i just saw a documentary 'The life story of Alice Keppel (mistress of King Edward VII)' - you may well have seen it - it's not bad. cheers
Exactly - he was the symbol of an age and the last larger than life Royal. He had his faults but he was a great statesman and head and shoulders above the other rulers of his time (Wilhelm II and Nicholas II).
