If they are illegal they don't have to be paid minimum wage and can be exploited more than the average American citizen. It is in the corporate interest to keep immigrants undocumented because they profit more from their labor. There are approximately 14 million "illegal" immigrants in the United States today. If they were given documentation, the country would gain 1.4 trillion dollars in taxes.

My sister in law took two years and her parents work for the embassy of her native country.
