Actually, I'm pretty sure what they mean is 45,000 excess signatures, as in 45,000 more than 30,000. So we actually need about 40,000 more, but we can do it!! It pays 15 bucks an hour to stand in Union Square in NYC and get people to sign!! Make a difference!

"Q: How many signatures are required for the referendum to be placed on the ballot?

The minimum requirement is 30,000 signatures. With this amount the petition can be filed with the City Clerk, who certifies its validity and submits it to City Council, which then votes on whether or not to place the referendum on the ballot. If an excess of 45,000 signatures is collected, the referendum will automatically be placed on the ballot, overruling City Councils vote."
