What choir is this? I did this piece 45 years ago with the Texas Boys Choir, and this so is like our sound back then. Like salve on a wound to hear it again. Thanks.
Victoria es un patrimonio de la Humanidad. Nos pertenece a todos por igual. Nacido en España pero universal como Bach. Gracias por subir esta bellísima música.
Victoria is a Mankind's patrimony. He belongs to all of us. Born in Spain but universal like Bach. Thanks for upload this beautiful music.
Perfect interpretation, Tomas Luis de Vittoria, the greatest spanish composer, I advice you to hear Pro Cantione Antiqua's version just with soloists.

This is beautifully done, emphasizing the all important 1st alto, which provides thematic and suspension/resolution to the piece.

Tenebrae factae sunt,
dum crucifixissent Iesum Iudaei
et circa horam nonam exclamavit Iesus
voce magna:' Deus meus, ut quid me dereliquisti?'
Et inclinato capite, emisit spiritum.
Exclamans Iesus voce magna ait: 'Pater in manus tuas commendo spiritum meum.
Et inclinato capite, emisit spiritum.

Darkness was made,
while the Jews had crucified Jesus
and around the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice: '
My God, on what (why) have you left me behind?
And after the head was layed down, he send away his ghost.
Jesus said with a loud voice while he cried out:' Father, in your hands I commend my ghost.
And after the head was layed down, he send away his ghost.

This was original written for 2 tenors and 2 basses right? Why are there boys singing? Very good though! :)

A very sensible interpretation, so clear, so contemplative
Did you ever ear the men's choir version of the tenebrae?
I have posted a non-professional record.
Its not a perfect execution, but not so bad

Exquisite - as the Spanish composer heard in his head, and as it was meant to be heard.
