This is a TAS. The game was played on an emulator one frame at a time (game runs at 60 frames per second). I can also rewind to an earlier point in the run to improve gameplay and remove mistakes. In the end it saves a button sequence that will always yield the same result when played back in the emulator, that's how it works.
So as for the mix, I press A for a certain frame, if it wasn't the right frame, I press A at a later frame, and so on, until I get the correct ability.
A: No, but the SNES version does. It's just a habit to take the japanese version here even though I don't know any differences yet (probably there are none). And there was a japanese savegame available and I didn't want to play the game myself on my slow PC (at 10 FPS or so...). ((Also, I'm not submitting to TASvideos so there are no consequences whatsoever. If I were to make a fullgame run I'd use the US version))
Are you going to do every sub-game to compile a full speedrun? That would be awesome.
The switch from Wing to Jet seemed odd (the first tim) because Wing was being just about as broken as it is in the SNES version, but the change just looked like you were bored of Wing. Did it save time where you used Jet?
Jet to beat Dynablade was legit, though. The Poppy Bros. Sr team KO was funny.
No, I'm not going to do every mode. I might do Revenge Of the King, but that's about it. WaddleDX already made a run, so I don't know if I can even improve on it, I'll see. I was interested in Great Cave Offensive 100% in the past, but it requires much CPU luck in at least two spots, so I dropped this for now.
I didn't directly compare each method, but I'm confident that every switch in abilities saved time. The first time I switched, the rooms got straight-forward...
@Raizen126 I'm not sure, since I've never TAS'd this game, but it seems like they're about the same speed, and Jet is faster at killing. Also, you don't have to waste as much time falling back down, since Jet goes straight, not diagonal up.
Can you defeat Dynoblade like that on the super Nintendo version too? o.o I had no idea you could do that, and I've played the game all my life ._.

Why did you use Hoshi no Kabi USDX instead of Kirby Superstar Ultra?

Q: Why do you play all the Kirby games in Japanese, though? Do all of them have differences from the Amercian versions?

The kirbys keep forgetting to load the cannon with gunpowder and igniting with a fire ability. Silly Kirbys, you'll never get him to 1.

And I switched back to Wing when the rooms were getting vertical again, then switched to Jet for the final bosses.
mugg1991 2 years ago
the jet kills the sub bosses faster IMO, so using them in those sections made it seem right
