Never hit the brakes when a trailer starts to fish tail - that's a sure way of making it flip. You need to gently accelerate to pull the trailer back into line.
Seems you blew the air bags out when it went up if you dont disengage the airbags they'll pump up until they explode trying to level the car's weight out
Many of these people commenting about the merits of towing a trailer with a car, seem to have forgotten that in the 1970s, the heaviest, most powerful passenger vehicles you could buy, were full-size Cadillacs and Lincolns. The town car in this video weighs more than an Explorer of the same year, and has the identical engine.
why evon bother with moving walmart junk furniture or partical junk be easyer just sell your funiture and just buy new stuff at the new place i would not matter the bouncing around the partical stuff just fall apart you have better luck getting better quality funiture trash picking it or the thriftshops or garge sales then cheep junk from walmart
Yeah Ive been stuck in Cheyenne a few times because of the weather. Just watching this video made me think of that, then I saw your comments about the location.
Yeah. Unless you converted the rear air bags to springs that car isn't designed to really tow anything. And, judging by how low it was sitting when the tow truck driver put it back down I'm guessing you still have bags. But, when it's that windy and slick your best bet is to just stop and wait.
@dtaylor2081 Solution: roll up the windows, or turn down the blower on your dash. I'm sure that Mercedes has a "hurricane" setting on the dash somewhere...
@waverider48 Indeed! U-Haul equipment may not look like much but it is stout! That big car hanging from the hitch impressed me. The box handled the weight without crushing even after the abuse of rolling.
@228Ghost228 I'm going to be honest with you, I've owned a 1996 Ford F-150, a 1986 Dodge D-100, and a few other smaller trucks. None of them have handled nearly as well as my 1991 Town Car on ice. Not to mention, the Town Car has the same full-frame as a truck, with even weight distrib. This crash happened because the wind pushed that trailer off the road, the same way it would do just as easily to a semi truck. The moral of the story, please research a vehicle before lumping it in with others.
i have a 4 banger car when i moved i just sold most of my stuff and packed my personal and basic kitchen things tied the matress on top when i moved in my new place i just found things or just get new or yoused stuff. That crap at walmart and big box stores thr thrift shop is the best at least it will stand up better then press chip stuff
My old car (Subaru Outback 4 cylinder) had no problem pulling my Harley on a 4x8 flatbed trailer. It was rated for a Class 1 trailer (2k lbs). I even pulled a small jet boat from Pittsburgh to Charleston, SC and back. It went a little slower through the mountains (I couldn't break 70mph going uphill), but never to the point where it was unsafe or uncontrollable.
They do. I guess they are thinking that people are going to overload them all the time. The newer 5 x 8 trailers have a tongue and bar size consistent with a trailer over twice it's size.
I'm laughin my ass off here, reading some off these comments, people are actually thinking a normal car is not designed for towing a trailer, come on, in europe there are almost NO trucks, bc there are not practical, and pretty useless, look nice though. But passenger cars, like a volvo s80 can haul around 2500 kg...
Seconded. My elderly 100 hp Volvo 240 has no problem with my caravan. It's got a pretty high carrying capacity too, 1,500 pounds. That's an entire Mini.
I laugh, too! Most people saying "trucks should move trailers" seem to keep forgetting that even an F-350, especially with duallies, is really too *light* in the back for towing, anyway! lol
that car is just as heavy as a truck and has a motor that is just as big. The vehicle it totaly capable of towing that trailer and alot more. the real deal is the weather and skill of the driver.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
a passenger car might weight close to a MINI MINI like a ford ranger, and the motors might me close, but a car is still not designed to pull a trailer, they are designed to haul around people. and yes to weather is the main factor but a vehicle desinged to pull a trailer, a truck, would have stood a better chance
A V8 has nothing to do with the reason why a car shouldnt pull a trailer. The fact that a P.O.S. lincoln towncar doesnt have a full frame like a truck is the reason.
@sweetlikeADAM shows what you know. its a good car so dont talk shit about it. but if i was offered a 1970 Dodge Challenger with the 440 Magnum then i wouldnt think twice about not using that Hyundai anymore. however thats beside the point. Faber Films is right seeing as most SUV's these days have at the most a v6. HOWEVER, i would rather use an SUV to tow that trailer while driving in winter conditions anyway, regardless of the engine size. 4x4 is better than RWD any day
@AdmiralKakarot You are right in the fact that a larger VEHICLE SIZE(not engine) is better for towing a large trailer, especially with bad road conditions. But, you still don't get my original point that engine size and the number of cylinders does not matter! Subaru makes 4 cylinder engines that produce 300hp while Ford has 8 cylinder engines making 230hp. Honda makes 4 cylinder engines that make 200hp. Those engines with half the cylinder amount are making near or more than those large ones...
@sweetlikeADAM yea im well aware. Hyundai makes a 274hp turbo charged 2.0l I-4 and Ford also makes the twin turbocharged 395hp 3.5l v6 and Dodge has the 6.7l I6 turbo diesel. trust me i know the differences. the v8 that lincoln uses is a small block v8 4.6. the most it pushes for that car is about 240hp. however, IF it had the 427 big block then that would be different. no V6 or I-4 can keep up with that. but then it would still be in its current predicament.
@AdmiralKakarot Actually, yes they can. There are I4s and H4s out there making 1000+hp and I6s making 1400+hp. Don't tell me that smaller, lighter engines can't keep up. I will defend that until my death.
@AdmiralKakarot youtube it... its very possible... it just ain't street legal ... evo's can make 850 easy... ken blocks new feiesta makes 650 and is capable of 850
@mompood know what trailer sway is? its cause by the towing vehicle (in most cases) being too light. load too heavy. it was the trailers fault and owners stupidity for attempting this.
omg! how could that happen that the trailer would invert and the car would be standing still...this requires the tow hooks to get twisted which is very unlikely!?!?!?!?
should have use his wheel lift to lift the car and then cut off the hitch or puillde the pin out of the reciever and then rolled over the trailor. Put the trialor on the deck and the car on the wheel lift of the deck-truck
Thats not a tiny ass car... Thats a 1992 Lincoln Town Car. They weigh quite a lot, handle very well with the long wheel base, and have plenty of torque to tow such a trailer EASILY... It's not the car's fault and neither is it the drivers probably. It just happens sometimes.

that lincoln has the 1st generation 4.6l engine that ford made...powerful for a car but nothing special...
oilfield666 3 years ago
@FaberFilms yes, however, a towncar's suspension isn't designed to pull a trailer and u-haul is unconscionable for renting one to you
kjbmtc 1 year ago
@FaberFilms but to pull a trailer the power is not enough the car should be heavy and than something like this cant happen!!
