  • Dude you have convinced me to buy this set even though I own the Australian one. My credit card hates me :p

  • [off topic]

there are interesting videos about Star Wars. if you have the time, look at my favorites (George Lucas talks about the influence of samurai movies on Star Wars, Darth Vader vs Japanese Police).

  • I am a GoLion fan. No Cut. No edits. Noted all the jokes. all the blood. everyhing. NO CUT. NO MISSING FOOTAGE! ON DVD NO NAME CHANE ! INYOUR FACE

  • SFIGATOOOOOOOOO

  • This review made me remember having black lion, maybe the others too. I think my mom sold it in a garage sale.. :(

  • @CaptainYogurt1 Ouch...always sucks when Moms do that. Thankfully my mom is something of a collector too, so I never had to explain the whole "collecting thing" to her (or worry about her ditching my stuff when I was at school).

  • @CaptainYogurt1 All of my Panosh Place figures were sold in a yard sale sometime in the 80's. I've just recently started to buy them back.

  • dude no way you have the black lion action figure thats ansome. you sir are the epic nerd of geekdom in a complinment way not a mean way;)

  • From the ground up, 70+ episodes, frame by frame editing....damn! That's a lot of love.

  • Hey man, This is some pretty intresting stuff you mentioned about these original cartoons. I've been looking around Ebay to buy a complete set of the metal tin dvds. I just bought the Masterpiece Voltron figure and that alone blew me away....it was much better than the 80's version! Hope the new movie is good and hope they release all these things again...but great info on everything you mentioned of these box sets!

  • Well done, one of the best reviews I ever watched, not only but it really reenacted my love for the series.

  • And I'll form... the HEAD!

  • But Voltron got out danced by a crappy green monster HOW?

  • Thanks for your review.. i just looked at my lion force voltron dvd's on my shelf with pride. i've never seen the vehicle force voltron i mayn pic those up soon.

  • ALL vintage anime should be redone+relreleased from the ground up!

  • The third time of an american company askign the japanese company to make new episodes was then Saban asked TOEI to make new Zuyranger footage to make more episodes of Power Rangers. To afraid to change costumes and zords like they do in Japan they tried to streach out the original MMPR as far as posible. There are actualy a few of the "Zyu2" footage in the second season intercut with the footage from Dairanger. So we had monsters that never showed up in Japan being used for our MMPR season 2

  • yeah but zyuranger was like, 92 or something. And animation is alot harder than live action. (though zyuranger is amazing!)

  • i'm only 16 goin 17 but i deffinatly remember voltron so i decided to watch sum love it i don't know how i remember it tho

  • makes me happy to know theres other huge voltron nerds like me out there=]

  • What a lot of work forming Voltron. Can you imagine if one of the pilots lost his grip on the trapeeze thing and falls to his death? LOL.

  • Whe I was waching the Japan dub of Voltron on DVD I got to say that the opening theme wasnt that epic as the USA dub.

I realy prefer the music of USA dub but when it goes to story HELL YEAH the Japan version, cause I see all the action and the scene that were cut and enjoy the story as realy goes.

But still I cal that Robot Voltron but when Im talking for Voltron I alwyse consiner the original story

  • A funny thing you should mention that Toei Animation made 20 new episodes of Voltron, as 20 years later Toei Company would do the same with Power Rangers 10 years later. Awsome review BTW.

  • Hmmm...could have sworn I mentioned that somewhere in these... The Voltron part, that is.

  • You mentioned the Voltron part yes, but not the Power Rangers part, you did mentioned Robotech though.

  • Ah, okay. Yeah, I'm not terribly familiar with the history of Power Rangers, just some of the basics - was never a fan of those.

  • Fair enough. But like World Events, Saban asked Toei for new footage to be filmed for Power Rangers as they ran out of useuble footaghe. So they came up with 25 new monster costumes for the original Power Rangers (or Zyuranger in Japan) to fight against. This exclusive footage was dubbed 'Zyu 2' to fans. I'm guessing these 20 epiosodes of Voltron probably have the same regard to Golion fans and are probably sometimes dubbed as GoLion 2 or Golion the Further Adventures or something similar.

  • @Zaranyzerak understandable. POwer Rangers was a 90's thing and you were a child of the 80s.

  • Good review, keep up the great vids...Did you know that hollywood is actually thinking of making a live action Votron and Thundercats movie. Since Transformers was a hit, and the upcoming sequel and GI JOE movie, Hollywood is scrambling to adapt popular 80s cartoons.

  • SWEET, that's all I can say and opposite of you, I've always been a big fan of Voltron!

  • dude, how do you know all of this?

  • Well, aside from being a living repository of useless facts about stuff, they describe the remastering process in the extras on the DVD sets. In a featurette on the first set, then in greater detail in the booklets that accompany each set. I've basically summarized the information and emphasized the parts I felt deserved a bit more attention that they get in the sets.

  • great review, very fun and loved the ending, keep these up plz

  • I thought this was gonna be another geek-out fan boy fest, but I was pleasantly surprised. I couldn't pull myself away, very in depth and interesting.

    5 stars.

  • Wow, I didnt even know they released this set. And based on your review, it is on my wish list.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane with the assembly sequence! That used to be my favorite show. I ran to see it! I had the lions. I remember begging my mom, and i finally got it as a school year end present.

hehe, I actually got excited when I saw the sequence you posted hehe, that was like being a kid again. YEAH GO KICK SOME BUT!! LOOK OUT BAD GUYS!

    hehe, that was nice .

    Thnks

  • Wow there's alot of trolls here... anyways, this review is insanely in-depth, it makes me want to check out the DVD. Even though I've never seen voltron before lol.

  • Yes, because you sitting online all day playing Counterstrike and making videos of how awesome you are at "pwning n00bs" is a MUCH better use of your time. (Seriously folks, look at his profile...) Buh-bye, enjoy turning 12. Maybe one day you'll even get to kiss a girl! =O

  • Oh, and if you'd bothered to look for more than half a second you'd see you're chewing out another Canadian for being American. PWNED! :P

  • ROFL

You wasted your own time by watching it, nobody forced you. As for what I hope to accomplish, nothing. I like talking about stuff that interests me. And judging from the views and comments, plenty of people like to listen.

Lots of channels to choose from on YouTube, friend. Don't like it, then move along! Buh-bye.

  • Dammit, there I go feeding the trolls again. I must be more bored than I thought.

  • and also whos rosie?.ur daughter-ban?

  • Wow. You really gotta watch more than just my DVD videos...

Okay folks, NEW RULE (this applies to EVERYONE)! I'm no longer going to answer questions that can be answered by simply watching my videos. It's taking to much time re-answering the same stuff over and over...

  • do u have the dvds of the animal transformers? and was there ever or will there be a voltron movie and was the show parodied on robot chicken and if u have a vid game collection make a vid of em and if u got a comic collection do the same!

  • I have the complete series' of both Beast Wars and Beast Machines. It rocked! there IS a live action Voltron movie in the works, set to premiere in 2009 I believe. There was a Voltron parody on Robot Chicken, it's included in the extras of the first Voltron set.

I'll be doing the comic and video game collections at some point, just not sure when yet.

  • Yup, someone, like me, has been collecting his Media Blasters boxsets and also looking at the extras. I believe the animators of the extra 20 episodes, though, are Korean as stated on the extras.

I so can't wait for the King of Hundred Beasts: Go-Lion boxsets. I already have mine pre-ordered on Amazon ...

  • You might be right about the last 20 episodes, as I mentioned on the video I haven't actually got that far in the sets, though I did watch the extras when I first got the sets. At the very least I'm sure they needed the permission of the original company...

I'm definitely grabbing GoLion! I've sene a few clips on YouTube of what was cut out for Voltron, and it looks like it's going to be quite a trip!

  • No problem! Your gonna love re-living the last few sets. A real nostalgia trip!

Well GoLion look's phenomenal indeed. I've also seen clips and I am dying for the day it arrives from the Amazon where house and into my greddy little fuckin' hands. *lol*

The original Vehicale Voltron (Dairugger) as well, just to support it and to relive some more memories. It is indeed gonna be quite a trip to experiance the original Japanese language versions, but the clips have prepared us I feel! :D

  • I remember actually preferring Vehicle Force when it was on, even though everyone else I knew was all about the Lions. It's hard to say NOW, though, since I haven't seen Vehicle Force basically since it was originally aired! It'll be interesting to see what my take is on it nowadays...

Can't wait for GoLion! I don't think anything can TRULY prepare us...hehehe :)

  • I remember catching a few (with a note on the phrase few) episodes as a we lad (I am only 25 and was starting to really form memories around that time) on a syndicated channel, and like many thinking along the lines of "Well, I SOULD be liking ths new Voltorn, and it;'s okay but...*shrugs*" basically. :D

I am looking forward to getting the Vehicale Force (Dairugger) sets as well. Can't wait for the King of Beasts: GoLion set's as well. Fuck it's gonna be a mind trip to see these uncut indeed!

  • Totally. I think it's going to be like seeing a completely different show, with only a vague resemblance to Voltron. May 23! Set 1 (of 3) comes out!

  • I'm excited as well! Just a few more weeks.

Indeed the 2 shows are completely different considering the extensive editing as we all know the original King of Hundred Beasts: GoLion show went through, and then with the adding of the Dairugger footage spliced in to help pad the running time and such.

However, I'm always gonna cheerish the show that is Voltron: Defender of the Universe and the impressive boxsets as well. Glad to meet someone who is open to both for a change!

  • I was never a fan voltron fan, but this video is extremely interesting. I never would have thought anybody would put THAT much effort into voltron of all things. o_O

  • Hehehe...that was pretty much my thinking at the time too. Re-watching the show on DVD, I've become a fan! And it truly amazes me how much work went into these sets. These guys deserve a freakin' MEDAL or something!

  • hey larry!.check out my new vid i posted!.it's cool!

  • part3? thanks.

  • It's in the works. Not sure when it'll be done, likely some time tomorrow.

  • Check my channel. My latest blog was a mini-review of Iron Man.

  • Hmmm...I went, but couldn't find it?

  • WBlog, not VBlog. :P

  • have u seen the new iron man movie?.it looks awesome! i havent seen it yet and there was even a vid game! and i just uploaded a new vid and stuff and i think i'll make more vids and if u like transformers than i got news for u!.this guy FanTransformers(i think thats his name)uploaded eps of Transformers Animated and cybertron and maybe even energon or the original series and plz make a review of the DCAU DVDS!! and theres gonna be Transformers 2!!

  • Haven't seen Iron Man yet. I'm really not big on watching TV shows or movies on YouTube, I'd much rather watch them on DVD for the best quality. Transformers: Animated is coming out on DVD this summer. The 3-part premiere is being released on DVD June 17, with the rest of Season 1 coming out in August. Cybertron is coming out in an "Ultimate Collection" of the complete series on July 22. Transformers 2 was inevitable, there's actually going to be at least 3. What is "DCAU?"

  • DCAU=DC ANIMATED UNIVERSE!.batman superman justice league and batman beyond those are dcau! u have em on dvd!!!.do a review on those!

  • Ah, okay! Well, at the very least I'll likely do some Batman reviews (since that's the majority of my DC animated/movie collection), probably a little closer to when Dark Knight comes out just to keep it "topical." :)

  • If you are seeing iron man than MAke sure your stay after the credits man i belive they will be making an aveger movie soon so go see iron man

  • Good review i only subscribed to you recently

Quick question do you think they will put the Star Wars trilogy's on Blue Ray

  • Thanks! I've got quite a few reviews planned, hope you enjoy the ones to come!

As for Star Wars, I think it's pretty much inevitable that it will be on BluRay EVENTUALLY. But remember how long it took for it to show up on DVD? I have a feeling Lucas will be waiting until all the "kinks" are worked out of the format before he puts out a Blu edition of Star Wars. But you're not the only fan waiting with bated breath for that announcement! Star Wars in HD? Hellz yeah! Gimme gimme gimme!

  • theres a CGI star wars movie comin in aug. and theres gonna be a show based on the film and theres gonna be a live action show! and are u gonna get the star wars game with the dark side? and whats nxt for the reviews?

  • Yep, the Star Wars stuff is old news (if you're a Star Wars fan). The CG series is actually about the Clone Wars and is the lead-in for a new CG series detailing that period of Star Wars lore.

The live action series is already planned up to 400 episodes and will detail the 20-year period between episodes 3 & 4.

Are you talking about "Force Unleashed?" I might grab it, if it's as good as the hype suggests.

As for the next reviews...wait and see!
