  • @kwazykilla87 I have a recon 1 and from heavy use my coating was coming off so I used some sand paper and got it off, think Jeff did the same to his recon 1 tanto

  • So i just bought a recon1 and i want to remove the teflon coating to have a polished blade. Would this stuff work since that coating is crap anyway, i know i would probably have to buff for a while with a larger amount and hard pressure but would this do the trick?? help please thanxs

  • 240p... we hurp a durp again.

  • i want to get a carbon steel knife mirror polised can flitz do that?

  • hey I'm 16 and just ordered my first balisong and wanted you to do a Maintenance video to to help me have a long lasting knife

  • @cutlerylover the Flitz website says it's "non-toxic"

  • in my limited experience,I noticed that beedblusted blades rust just as easy as the ones without a finish on them..

  • hey cutlerylover, so i have a crkt m21, and it got a nasty scratch in the blade from a little accident while trying to sharpen it on a stone. will flitz take care of this scratch?? great vid btw

  • I know this is an old video, but according to their website, Flitz is completely non-toxic and can be used on utensils for food.

  • can grease work on stainless steal?

  • well you could ingest it...you would just die

  • dear god, i've wasted so much time i want my money back...

  • Hey this is what the back of mine says? Is this one any different then yours? -No Abrasives... -Non-Toxic... -Non-Flammable... -Acid-Free... -No Residue

  • could that work for polishing the brass on a Buck 110?

  • What is that you have to buy the complete kit with 2 product is the cloth(rag)? I would like to use him(it) for a blade of spyderco but I am afraid that ca the abime.désolé pouyr my English it is a translator

  • From the Q&A of Flitz website:

You Mention Countertops, Appliances, And Serving Pieces; Is Flitz Safe To Use On Surfaces In Contact With Food?

Yes, Flitz Polsih is completely non-toxic. It has USDA approval to use on surfaces in a food preparation area. Flitz can be safely used on serving pieces, such as silverware, without any danger. After polishing, just wash the piece in warm soapy water and dry off as usual. The Flitz will not leave any flavor or smell behind.

  • does it matter if the knife is a stainless steel matte finish

  • will this screw up my laser etched Spyderco logo on my Endura 4?

  • they sell this stuff at auto parts stores like o'reilly and advance. it works really good on chrome

  • will this also work on brass?? please answer

  • DANG! flitz is EXPENSIVE! the cheapest you cen get it for is $12!!

  • how about using gun oil????? rem oil to be exact

  • @MacsCanfly Does anyone know if gun oil makes a knife not food safe? I lube my EDC knife with G96.

  • What should I do for tarnish on a kershaw chill? I use 3 n 1 and it ain't workin

  • @laxdude77

Take a very very fine grit sandpaper and polish out the tarnish, then apply 3n1 to prevent it from tarnishing again.

  • i have an older model ak 47 would this give the blade a mirror polish

  • Why is the polished bradley kimura so much more expensive than the regular?

  • Good luck finding that product...

Home Depot, Loews and WalMart do not carry it....

  • how do you take the rust out of a knife plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz i need to know

  • @MrSppiky try wd 40 then after rust is gone put light oil on it

  • Hey Jeff, I just wanted to let you know [although you may already know this] and to everyone who watches this that, this polish, Flitz, is what is actually used at Spyderco. Its not a harsh abrasive, yet cleans the steel really well. So just an FYI, usually when the company itself uses it, theres a reason for it.

    - Jeff

  • could you post a video on maintenance on a balisong such as cleaning/disassembly etc.

    Thanks.

  • Hey jeff ive been wondering if you have any ideas for a blade with black finishes infact a tutorial would be awesome

  • will this work with damascus?

  • you can use toothpaste for polishing and it is not toxic.

  • will this product show minor scratches if I use it on only parts of a blade that already has a mirror polish from the factory? Or will this create a mirror polish by itself and therefore blend right in?

  • this product is the best it uses a micro diminishing polish that is below the us standards for abrasiveness and it is USDA approved so you could eat it if you wanted to this will make your polished surface look much brighter. if this retard would have read the tube he would know that it is used by the military and is non toxic and if it was toxic he would probably have burns by now. this is the best you could find and it never goes bad.

  • i just got a gerber LST 2 for 9$ and i used flitz on it and it works great

  • nice knife

    what kind is it?

  • i bout a matte finish blade and i wanted it polished so i used a 1000 grit metal sand paper

  • "stain less" lol, stainless steels dont rust as easy but they can and do rust if not taken care of.,..certains stainless steels cant rust like H1 that spyderco uses, but most cna rust..

  • nice house!

  • can this remove scratch made by my horrible sharpening technique?

  • i was wondering the same

  • Your horrible sharpening technique should not leave scratches as you should be using a super fine grit near the end of your sharpening regimen. So basically if you have scratches.. polishing with a stone can also get those out.

  • yay but what if you got scratches on the body of the blade? i.e. above the cutting edge? Will flitz take out those scratches?

  • I'm not sure as I don't use the product and don't like these kinds of products. I would personally use a super fine grit sand paper with a little water to buff that out.

  • @jayfulf use flitz once and you will be amazed :)

  • @DigitalDailyStore I want the ability to use my knives with food so that's a no go. Better solutions out there than these chemicals.

  • do you need to polish a stainless titanium knife?

  • titanium doest rust stainless does, I have not heard of a stainless titanium though?

  • @cutlerylover Actually, Titanium is higher on the Activity Series than Iron, which means that it oxidizes faster and is more reactive than steel. Albeit, Titanium Oxide does not have a distinctive color like Iron Oxide (rust), so it is not noticeable, but it is there.

  • Yeah I don't believe there's such a thing as stainless titanium

  • hey jeff, do you know where to buy this in stores, or is it just online because i haven't been able to find it in any of the stores i have looked in.

  • This is a great video. Thanks for posting it.

However, FLITZ IS NOT TOXIC. FLITZ IS PERFECTLY SAFE TO USE ON YOUR KNIVES EVEN IF YOU USE YOUR KNIVES FOR FOOD PREPARATION. The ingredients are inert (so they can't hurt you) and the product has the USDA stamp of approval on the packaging.

  • Great video... l was considering a leatherman e33lx or e55x; will you be reviewing these knives in the near future?

    Keep-up the good work :)

  • hi mr smith when using flitz polish use some cardboard from a cereal box it retains the polish longer also protects your fingers.l

  • Great videos. Thanks. Are some blades clear laquered and dont need abrasive polishing or have I been misinformed? Its a Puma and a Normark Rigid, both unused but I would like to polish out some small scratches, but wonder if blades are coated. Both are 6025 Stainless. Thanks.

  • That knife is cool!

  • what kind of knive is that i couldnt understand him?

  • this is a CRKT rollock...

  • thanks for another great video Mr. Smith

  • I used mothers metal cleaner, get it at walmart for about $8, But that was about 7 years ago, then i found out it was way to harsh, but I've been getting Flitz ever since and it's awsome. great review.

  • Can you use this product to sharpen your knives (like the sharpening compound we put on leather hone) or is it just a cleaner?

  • actually I recentyl used it to hone a knife, its not meant fior it but it works to some degree...

  • Thank you

  • To the man in the video Flitz is non toxic. Actually it carries a USDA authorization las t I knew. This is part of the reason most knife manufacturers package a sample with there knives. Actually you need to get a facts sheet from Flitz. they are huge in the Food industry. The dirty paper is called oxidation all metal does that do not know of any surface Flitz cannot be used on. I would be more than happy to educate anyone to the usues for Flitz. Flits is biggest in the Firearms industry.

  • Tahnk you VERY mu8ch for the information I really appreciate it! I wanted to play ti dafe just in case, but thanks!!!

  • Hey I just wanted to say the new Flitz is nontoxic and you can use it on kitchen utesils.

  • what about, like I got something on my beadblasted monochrome. but, it wouldnt come out. I used brasso and it came right out.

  • Brasso has acid in it. So I sure it took it out right away. Flitz is acid free. Next time I recommend a #0000 steelwool with Flitz.

  • ya man i feel you and the almost cutting off a chunk your thumb thing, did the same thing to my finger. Also just wondering what knife are you using in this vid, and were can you buy one? thnx

  • Its a CRKT rollock...you cna get them on ebay these days and some online knife shops for udner $20...I ahve a review on it, search cutlerylover rollock...

  • whats the worst injury that u have gotten by accidentally mishandling ur knives?

  • A nasty scar on my thumb, when I was 10 years old I used a very sharp knife to try to open a baseball up, lol slipped on the round surface and sliced a hunk almost off the side of my thumb, I never told my parents in fear that they woudl take my knife away so it scarred, it should have gotten a stitch or 2 but never did, Im glad it never got infected...

  • This vid inspired me to take apart and thoroughly clean out my Leek. Thanks for making me think of that :p. It opens so much better than it used to now

  • Im glad to hear that man!

  • hey wut kind of knife is that?

  • so is stuff like TUF glide or TUF cloth safe to use on knives that you sometimes cut or cook with

  • NO, peope say flitz is ok for food prep, but from what I read any metal lube like tuf-glide or militec-1 or similar is NOT ok to use on knives you will prepare fod with...

  • k cause on rat cutlery's website they say to use tuf glide or tuf cloth on their knives to clean yet they are sposed to be survival knives... i assume that means food prep in there somewhere

  • Well I am sure with the very little residue left it woudl not kill you to get it on food, but if you help it I woudln't...for surevival it wont matter much since your life is at risk...But for average use you might just want to play it safe...

  • sorry but what was the name or model of the knife, it was very uniqe

  • Oh, its a Rollock, made by CRKT (columbia river knife and tool) I have a video on just this knife as well just search cutlerylover rollock...

  • oooohhh shiny!!!

  • does it clean up larger scratches at all, or just the tiny ones?

  • just tiny ones...even after polishing this blade you cna still see many of the slighty bigger scratches....

  • do you have any switchblades? i love those its just soemthing about the way they shoot open that drives me crazy there amazing

  • haha, well I use to, not scurrently...sorry, I find I cna open a folder or balisong just as fast as any switchblade and these days prefer the simplcity of a mnaul folding knife...

  • oh i see i find that true too i can open a folder just as fast if not faster ans there legal. but i just like how they open i find it interesting

  • Oh yeah it is interesting and a great inovation when they were 1st made, there are so many different kind of automatic knives as well...

  • yeah i know. my uncles a cop and has a otf without the pressure release gaurd and that is the only knife i can say im scared of

  • haha, I use to own a Microtech Halo, it use to scare me!!! it came out with such a big snap and it didnt have a safety either just a big button on the top f the handle...sweet knife though!!! It was also featured in the tv show 24...

  • oh thats cool! yeah there was this one i saw at the sportsman show and when the guy hit the button it sounded like a gun one of the LOUDEST clicks/snaps ive ever heard! amazingly loud the spring in there aparently was one of the biggest you could fit in there suposidly but it was like wow..

  • Definatly gotta buy a tube. Nice video!

  • Thanks...

  • Enjoy the videos very much. I've used flitz, also simichrome, which is harder to find but very similar. Wonder if you have ever used flitz on hard plastic handles? Won't work on mat finishes, but I've used simichrome and flitz to polish up hard plastic pens and other items besides metal. It removes scratches and brings out a glossy shine.

  • Cool, the tibe says its a metal polish as well as a fiberglass cleaner...So I guess it might work? I never tried it...

  • nice and shiney.. thats how we like it! haha...

  • I bought a tube of Flitz at a gun show WAY more years ago then I will admit to, that stuff lasts a LONG time. Just like some of my oil kits, I keep my Flitz in a baggie with patches of old T-shirts. It seems the more I use the cloths, the better they get. Flitz is a great product. It cleans up the brass on my Buck folders and makes them look brand new. I had orginally bought the tube to use on stainless steel firearms, but I am too afraid it will screw up the brushed finish.

  • Nice, actually yesterday my dad borrowed soem of it to clean the brass rails he had put on the bar we made together...it worked great!

  • Bead blasting doesnt protect the blade at all. Its actually the worst finis to have for rust prevention. BB is just the easiest method for a uniform finish.

  • I see, your right, now that I think if it its a treatment instead of a finish, in other words a meatl finish instead of somethgin seperate thats added to the metal...That woudl explain why alot of kershaws model with the BB finish often has spotting...

  • Yeh basically your making millions of minute dents with the beads onto the surface of the metal. The reason why it rusts is because moisture can be trapped much easier into these "pores". Ass opposed to the opposite - mirror polish which has a nearly smooth surface with barely any pores for moisture to get trapped in. I also polish my bead blasted blades lightly so these pores are smaller.

  • I understand, I just explained this to another person in a message...

  • Ok, sorry if i came across condescending.

  • Not at all, you brought up an important fact! I had made a mistake in the video and I am VERY happy you called me on it, Im only human but the fact that there are other knowledgable people watchign ym, videos and maybe correcting any mistakes makes it much better for the peope learning! I appreciate it very much! really!

  • great 5/5

  • Thank you!

  • I am so glad you made this vid! I'm personally a huge fan of completely stainless steel knives, like my Spyderco Harpy and Adventura. I still like FRN and G10 and zytel and whatnot, I just prefer stainless steel. But ANYWAY, I'll have to get some of that stuff to help smooth out all the light scratches my knives have accumulated over the years

  • Nice, Im glad you enjoyed the video!

  • very informative, I always love your videos

  • Thanks!

  • Would it be alright to polish my Cold Steel Ti-lite and Voyager?

  • I'm guessing yes as long as you don't use them to cut food. They have no coatings on the blades, so those would probably really benefit from a polish.

  • Wait wait wait haha you told me to use this on my kershaw cyclone... But in this video you said not to with kershaws like that? Should i still get it and use it? I just want to make sure before i do it haha

  • Yes, I am sorry for the cnfusion, in this video I mentione bead blasting, but I was a bit confused and said not to use it on that, but bead blasting is not a coating...its just the finish on the metal, sorry for the confusion, its ok for your cyclone...there is no coating on your blade...

  • O ok thanks man i just wanted to make sure before i bought it haha. Do you think i could get the flitz at like a store? Or only online?

  • Yeah sorry I was thinkign the bead blast was a finish like added on, but I was wrong...I am sure you cna buy it at a store but it has to be the right store, perhaps a hunting store? outdoory type store like cabellas...they would probably sell this where they sell guns....

  • great =)

  • thats a cool knife i wanna get 1 and some polish

  • eknifeworks on sale $8!

  • with 1 can i get at eknifeworks?

  • The knife is $8, they dotn sell just the flitxz polish, but they sell a care kit thats like $25 but it has EVRYTHING you need to keep your knife nice!

  • i'm so glad that i saw this.i feel that my blades will be shiner and offer less resistance when i stab someone

  • i did this a week ago and i cut in to the paper then my finger it sucked

  • Ouch! Sorry to hear that man...

  • tht knife is fucking ill!!!! i've never seen anything like tht before!!! wat is it?!?!

  • Its just metal polish, Its just I am sure you don't see people use it on knives thats all, its the same process as peopel do to their cars...like they use a buffing wheel and some buffing liquid or paste and geta nice finish on it, thats all...

p.s. I know you ddint know but please try not to use foul language in the future ok, soem younger kids watch ym vids, thanks!

  • crkt rollock

  • Flitz is non toxic

  • they say its not but i dont believe

  • interesting, I saw nothgin on the tube that said one thgin or another I always assumed to play it safe anyway...

  • advertising,you tube partner etc etc,i have

    crap sense of humour

  • lol, oh I get it, hahaahahaha...Myabe Im just tired, lol thats why I didnrt get it, I ahve been starring at my computer too logn today, haha...

  • lol, its a CRKT rollock, I have a video on it, there is a black and a blue on left on eknifeworks for only $8!!!!!! if you get them on ebay they will cost more like $15-$20...

  • i orderd the knife also ^^.

is there also a way to clean and care for a blade thats non toxic? ( id like to cut fruit and not turn bleu my self )

    greets talma

  • Hey, sure, you can use a canola oil instead...or regular old soap and water always works just be sure to dry it after your done...

  • I used polish at my job and nothing will happen if you leave it on your hands

  • Oh ok, I always play it safe I mean if I were to say eat and apple afer I was done I am sure nothign bad were to happen but why take the risk...

  • Thanks for the info

I ordered that knife in blue and red

  • nice!
