They make no predictions of black holes, they only hopes. Why don't they prove the usefulness of Black Hole model, if any? Why don't they make claims about the supposed Black Hole in the center of our galaxy? This kind of astronomy is becoming a guess work.
i work in a physics lab that did a lot of work for designing GLAST. trust me, this is not guess work. particle physics is KNOWN in the physics realm for being a field that takes MILLIONS and MILLIONS of data. this kind of astronomy (known as cosmology) USED to be guess work, and was not taken as seriously as it is today. but new technology enables us to really study this stuff and make concrete judgments about the beginning and evolution of the universe.
nothing can be proven. we can't even prove that a chair exists if you are sitting on it. we can only observe. and glast has a mission of observing millions and millions of particles that will be hitting it at very high energies, and taking data, which physicists will use to make conclusions. you might say that it's a little more "out-there" because it we cant feel it or see it with the naked eye, but it's just as observable as the chair you are sitting on.
Of course you're right, we cannot even prove that we are not dreaming our lives.
But still a theory needs predictions for proofs. The very same relativity had to come through this. Now please tell me if astronomy ever made a single prediction on black holes. I don't mean patches a posteriori, I mean prediction. Oh, please note that astronomers claimed we have no black hole in our Galaxy.
How comes that we forget that claim? Again, you know this is perfectly true. That's simply unscientific.
Btw I look forward for results from GLAST and from LHC. We can surely agree that this esploration will give interesting data that can be used in any model.
I know that neither you or I understand as much as those astronomers. My job is to take data, and I KNOW they make their predictions based on lots and lots and lots of data. I am sure they know what they are talking about. They couldn't predict black holes before seeing them because they did not have the knowledge to predict them when they had the technology to see them. Now they even have the technology to CREATE them at very small levels.
Taking data is a great job. The bad point is that astronomers don't just use what they know, they abuse what they believe. Creating black holes? It's an unsupported clain yet. I don't need a Nobel to realize there are incoherences.
Also, exactely: they didn't have the knowledge to predict balck holes. Can you realize that the model still gives no prediction and this raised no doubts on the correctness of the model?
Don't you think we should have more doubts than they show?
This will change our understanding of the universe and physics as we know it. If we can confirm s-particles string theory will be one step closer to String Law.

I see you are exposing your... "genealogy" but you perfectly know, as you are a researcher, that what I claim is PERFECTLELY TRUE.
Sorry, I don't believe in anything. I want proofs.
What about a proof of the Higg's? What will you say whey LHC won't find it?
That it is a non-elementar particle?
That there is a simmetry broken?
OR THAT THE MODEL IS FINALLY DESTROYED? Would you like to loose your jobs?
No, my dear, you are not trustable.

I hope researches will broad their models.
