I was discovering NO in the mid-80s as a young boy of 14 or so when I first heard Temptation. And I knew that I had never heard anything quite like it before. And though I would hear many wonderful songs in the coming years, Temptation would always hold a special place in my heart for so many reasons. Halcyon days, my friends. Halcyon days.
I think personally, New order are great ! Some of their music is great :) but I only rely listened to Joy Division. I didn't even know Ian Curtis was dead until I saw it on youtube one day I didn't know for years! I mean I'm 13. But I couldn't beleive it when I found out. :( .
I used to think the lyrics of this song began, "Heaven.. a gateway, I hope." Mainly because that is the concept of "heaven" that I hope for the most...Heaven to me would be being born anew on a new planet, in a new galaxy.
When I hear this, I'm in a little silver Fiat Bertone X19 convertable with the Florida sunshine beating down. How I miss that little slice of time in my life. I listened to this cassette 100 times over. And this song reminds me of Trainspotting.
I had a new wave punk friend who all he could talk about was Joy Division, Brian Eno, Devo, Oingo Boingo, & Wall of Voodoo. BUT, he introduced me to OMD. Bless him, Bryan, I forgive you, for whatever.
Best song in the world! It's funny, I haven't listened to this in quite a long time but i still know all the words. These days I could hear a new song everyday on the radio for weeks and still not know all the words. But a song that I haven't heard in 2 decades, I still remember backwards and forwards. I love New Order! Definitely one of my favorite bands of all-time.
I saw New Order, Echo/Bunnymen & Gene Loves Jezebel in 1987 at Irvine Meadows -- same night -- Echo & Gene opened for NO. A good friend and I snuck in thru the marshes, nearly got arrested, nearly shit our pants a few times, got muddy as hell, but we jumped the fence and under the cover of darkness got in at last! An EPIC evening, will never forget that night, those hours, days and years! Thanks to this music, my youth will never die. As for my buddy, Chris, love you forever where ever you are.
@BanditosYankees I saw the same tour at Pine Knob outside of Detroit...Peter Hook with his bass hanging down by his knees. I could have done without Gene Loves Jezebel. Every time I mention that line-up young kids just stare in disbelief.
My fave band of all time. I can't say how many times I've listened to their music and I never tire of it. When I see movie scenes laced with the music of NO, it wrests my attention and I go back in time and feel the emotions of the days when I was younger and hum along.
In Puerto Rico by that time I remember the rich kids ware Ray Bans, Sperry Top Siders, and Blazers, and poor kids ware Jox sneakers, Lee jeans, and vinyl sipper jackets...jejejeje. Top New Wave (Electro) bands were, New Order, Pet Shop Boys, Information Society, And Depeche Mode.

@lokiwolfodinraven I wore that tape into a thread. That was before CD's. That was clear back in high school.
These guys do have real cred. As in, they spent the majority of their adult lives getting to where they are and perfecting it. Before there was Alternative, before New Wave, before Emo!!
By that standard, they are the hardest working group in show business.
You still have attitude. You can still hate on these young whipperschnappers and make them proud to be fucking Americans.

This is my favorite New Order song by a mile. Try playing this while driving down a motorway or somewhere like Italy, it is awesome.

Agreed. New Order really was ahead of the rest of the new wave scene at this time.
