@Midnightryder7 cos its a total rip off of Alan Clarke's seminal 'Elephant' (1989), a short film about sectarian murders in 80's northern ireland. the use of tracking shots and general feeling of detachment employed by Clarke in the original Elephant was brutally stolen by Gus van Sant. The only saving grace is that he used it to portray a real and horrific piece of history rather than some bullshit work of fiction.

Here's my take on this film. I thought the concept of showing just a normal banal highschool day, when in fact a massacre occurs was creative and interesting. I think this is best shown during the movies conclusion. I very much like the way he shoots the boys beginning the shooting so casually, and i like the way the massacre is filmed. On the negative this film was CRYING out for character development and dialogue. So much potential here for a greatfilm, instead we get a work of art.

There are a lot of differences from this movie and the shootings columbine, it was inspired by teenage violence. The shooting at columbine was just the worst high school shooting in history so people associate it with that. There are many more cases of school violence. The point is that it is random. It is not about bullying necessarily. There is no reason to it. And the piano scene here shows that
