While I'm not saying this is genuine (much more research would be needed for that), is it not reasonable to assume that if such an event was genuine that it would be done in the language and accent of the local region? It wouldn't really make sense to use an American accent while transmitting to a locality in Britain.

At the time the Hannington transmitter was a UHF transmitter and was unusual in being one of the few transmitters which rebroadcast an off-air signal received from another transmitter, rather than being fed directly by a landline. As a consequence it was open to this kind of signal intrusion, as even a relatively low-powered transmission very close to the transmitter could overwhelm its reception of the intended signal.

@Tantalus45: The only video that would exist of this incident would be that of the Southern Telvison regional news programme and the Loony Tunes cartoon that followed it without sound whilst the voice claming to be "Vrillon" spoke over it. Only the audio part of the transmission was hijacked by the hoaxer(s).

For those who think this was real why did no one else report hearing this in other UK televison regions not served by the Harrington transmitter?
