nice video. How would you compare Gs 650 to kawi KLR 650? i have one(1988) ,and im thinking to step up a bit and buy something not so old(like 2001-2005 F650 GS).Is there anything special to look for when buying one and what are the MOST crucial mods on those bikes for that kind of riding? I guess some kind of crash bar is essential.. what about maximum traveled distance before fuel tank runs dry? Tnx in advance
@ApocGuy Thanks! I don't know the KLR 650. I would recommend you to buy the "Dakar" version, then you don't have to make any mods for that kind of riding. The Dakar has more ground clearance because of a better suspension and a 21" front wheel. The crash bar is very helpful to avoid damages at the feet things (brake and gear change?) Without boxes and luggage you should be able to drive 380km before the warn lamp lights.
@fixli81 amazing and I am jealous ;) this year i ll buy TA 650, so i hope, my friends will change sports bike to travels bike, like me...and lets adventure
Well, fuck. I want to drive like that. Bought a f 650 gs about a year ago, but since my muscles lack the strength to raise it up if I fall down I don't find the courage to go out in the trails like that. But well, experience don't come over night. My crazy dad drives an R1200GS as if he were driving a bicycle...the dude is 53 and always sport an fitting injury like broken rib or something..Maybe I should just give it a shot.
Great Vid. Bought mine as my first bike back in 2002 and toured Scotland - rode 700 miles in 10 hours on her on a miserable, sleety, UK winters day . Even thought I now own big touring bikes, I always end up back on her! Cracking bike. Thanks for sharing :)
Great video! I have a red 2001 and the roads you were on look very similar to the ones I rode in Colorado in August. The FGS is a very capable bike, as you already know.
@goredsox2421 The only reason why you could say that is because it doesn't do 200mph and doesn't look as "cool" as a racing bike or whatever type you like, but the truth is, that this is the BEST bike because you can go ride these kind of mountains and go on the road with it.
You can go up these mountains with dirtbikes but then the fun is off when you get on the road, or you can go fast on the road with a regular bike and never get to places on this altitude (with breath taking views)
You ride your F650 GS like it were a light crossbike... impressive. I'm a beginner in offroad riding. Europe is overcrowded and it's hard to find nice places for adventures. The Thailandish gravelroads looks nice, I'd like to ride there too... ;-)
@fixli81 - if you are having fun, you are most likely learning at the same time - life is long enough to ease yourself into it. Having shot in four countries on a beemer, it ain't a stretch to imagine you riding all the way here!
I see you got your rear wheel to accelerate while locked at 0:15 - same happened to me in the deep dust here. The rear is so heavy with ABS off it swings right around to full lock in a heart-beat! Fun but scary!
gutes video, gute musik. ;-)
