I got this when it first came out. dave grohl was at least a little honest when he admitted to ripping off BM. props for rosemary, bob mould still rocks! This is from the original Husker Du from Morgantown, WV, 1983!
@NotMichaelVoet: Bob is one of those artists that you really have to listen to over and over again to understand. He is a genius with regards to layering sounds. He uses guitar different than a normal guitar player would, he uses it more for effect and melody than rhythm. His hooks are brilliant and his vocal melodies and "harmonies" are unusual. I know this because I'm writing songs with a guitar player friend, and trying to emulate bob's style is extremely difficult, maybe impossible.
Bob Mould and Sugar....music that helped me pull myself together when I was at the lowest point in my life. Life got better, and I am forever grateful for the great music that meant so much to me back then as it still does today.
@shaxan Was that the video they filmed under the 183 overpass construction in Austin, Tx?. I lived a couple of blocks from there at the time and have been trying to find it.
It seems dumb, but "Copper Blue" really changed my life in an indirect way. Discovered them on one of those weird "Alternative Music Monthly" video compilation from the early-to-mid '90s and immediately fell in love with the sound. Kind of got shaken out of a Seattle-induced bout of ennui by the power of the melody in this song. I wonder how many other people were wrenched out of the world of grunge by Bob Mould?
I played this one for my dad back '92 when he was 50 and I was 16, and he said.. "... It sounds like the Beatles ..." ( which is a big compliment obviously, but even more so when my Pop, who doesn't really like anything post-Beatles admires it, too...GREAT TUNE BOB :)
Great memory I have with this song is sitting in a car with some friends, in the back seat right next to what turned out to be a future ex-girlfriend of mine. This song came on the radio and she said "oh, I love this song!" So we both started singing it together. Pretty cool.
@DJkevvykev, for lack of a better answer, it was Mould's evasive "I'm Not Gay" bullshit that kept him out of the mainstream, and it was totally deliberate.
This song sucks. Listen to real music like Nickelback.
