You're quite correct - I've done a bit of research since I left that comment 6 months ago and found that MINI have this secondary plant (ex Pressed Steel Fisher) in Swindon.
excellent production, except one is left to wonder where paint/lacquer overspray particles/fumes exhaust to and how recovered/filtered before effluent goes to atmosphere as contaminants.
Hmm,cant see a modern mini lasting long,as the body work is not tank dipped in phosphate coating to prevent corrosion, notice the blokes fitting parts like the boot gas struts to a paint free body shell, then its gets painted OUTSIDE ,what about paint on the inside?Typical modern crap, tinny and plasticy, one minor bump and you have to buy a new one.Dont buy one unless you have a heated garage to store it in!!
My MINI hasn't had a single problem, and it's approaching 100,000 miles. The entire body is dipped in an anti-corrosive while still in an unfinished, pre-painted state. Not to mention most rust damage is covered by factory warranty. In this day and age, a car has no excuse at all to corrode.
My car's got more character than 90% of the cars out on the road today, and with 210 supercharged horsepower, it'll smoke most of them between the lights, too.
From experience in Canada, we know . . a HEATED garage is the worst possible location to store any vehicle, let alone a Mini . . either un-heated or cold-storage out side with engine block heater plugged in. MAIN reason is heated garage will encourage corrosion from accumulated road de-iceing salts.
@silver760 Couldn't agree more, most modern cars now are Shite! fall apart and breakdown due to too much technology crammed inside. All looks easy in the factory but try fixing the damn things when they go wrong. The mechanic has been designed out of the equation now IMO !
After watching this clip i now know why modern cars are so boring to drive,,,because they are boring to make,,
One silly point,,the cars being tested over the bumps,,what do they do about the miles put on the clock,???
Also,,the men rubbing the new paintwork,as if to check for faults, heheh,,you would never do that to fresh paint,,ohh and by the way,,please dont correct me on my spelling,,if your that much of a pedant,,i dont give a sit,,get it,???????????
What a sad place to earn a living though,,no soul,,,that's how it has to be now i guess,,sad that men dont make cars anymore,,no soul or caracter ehh,??
oi put it through the paint shop again we want a thicker coat of lacquer than that pmsl

It's not Swindon, that's where Honda are based. The MINI is made at Cowley, on the south side of the Oxford ring road.

Interesting to see the roof all masked out before it's sprayed white. I guess the masking is done by hand?

Very interesting, It would be nice to see what happens afterwards, for example the shipping and VDC phase.
