it depends on what type of cricket it is and where you are located for this to work. each type of cricket chirps at a different rate than others. if you hear one cricket and know what that particular cricket is and dont confuse his/her chirp with someone elses then perhaps it could give an estimate. but to just say any ole cricket any place is incorrect. wife has a degree in zoology and is an expert in animals and insects...
laddy come with me to fairbanks alaska and will see your yuppy survival methods in action. 45 below and before the nights over youll climb into my bag.

Each species of crickets chirps at a different rate with respect to the temperature
This works for the U.S but not necessarily for everyone, do your research and figure out how to modify this rule (Cricket chirps in 15sec + 37 = temp in F) to suit your situation
I need to pay attention more. Normally I am so destracted by the crickets starting and stopping that I did not even notice the tempeture fluctuating. Nature is truely amazing.
This is good to know, when the electrical infrastructure is destroyed by an Apollo class asteroid when it hits the earth....woops...what if there are no crickets left. :-)
Interesting but too much camera shake....again.

So, if it's say 80 degrees F..... 80 - 37 = 43
That cricket is gonna chirp 43 times in 15 seconds?
2.86 chirps per second.. That cricket is on crack!

OK here's a request. You've done time till sunset and temperature. How about distance. I've never been able to judge how far 100 yards is.
Keep up the good work.
