  • I know exacly what u mean about looking in the mirror and seeing so many different mixtures. I am haitian, and I don't know much about my family background right now. I will do the same, I know some of the obvious about my background, but I just want more.

  • Hi moxie...I'm glad you were able to see your grandfather and find out more about your family...I truly wish I knew more on my family and cultures ...I know my family is a mixture I just wish I knew more relatives and more on my cultures thats very important to me too.

thanks for another great video keep them up even though this is an older video ;)

  • Cool post. Thanks for repping Haiti respectfully. You're always welcome back.

  • Hello Miss Moxie,I did not know where youre originally from, but I was guessing because of the way you are sharing your informations about your hair style in you tube.I though you have Haitians blood. It takes people like you who love yourself with a proud that came from generation to generation to let the world know your back ground. However,Americans government after all that they do to Haiti. Using the media, other strategy to put Haitians down, but is not going to happen because we are strong.

  • Hey moxie. I'm glad you were able to go home and meet your grandfather. I could tell it was a very emotional part of your trip. I'm haitian too. One thing's for sure I need to learn kreyol! My grandmother says she comes from the part of Haiti 6 hrs away from PAP. I didn't even know Haiti was that big and mountainous. Thanks for your vid, it further proves that its always good to find out where you come from. It'll be something you'll cherish.

  • first black republic in the Caribbean?

    I'm so pissed right now.lol

1st black republic in the world .Period.

and we're still strong. Wait until we bring the military back...

  • the first black republics in the world were in Africa. like Kuba, and Ghana

  • I meant First black country to be independent in the world...

  • i know what you meant sweety. just reminding everyone not to limit our history to only that island. we belonged to great nations before our holocaust. much love. un jour Haiti sera aussi grand qu'elle etais en 1804! Haiti cherie'm nan, "lamou ap blayi lan keu'm pou ou!"

  • lol you are Haitian and you don't even know Haiti is the first black indepandent in the wordl. Shame on u lol

  • i dont understand y ppl put two thumbs down on my comment. ppl sound like parrots when they say "haiti is the first independent nation in the world". i mean, really evaluate what that sentence states. they were not the first in the world. only in the western hemisphere. u know where haitians came from? From great nations in Africa, like Songhai. THATS where they got the balls to do what they did to the Napoleon. READ A BOOK!

  • They don't say first independant nation in the world. They say first black nation in the world. You are the one that need to read a book dear ahhahahha lol shame on you

  • lol too much talking just tell me a black nation which took independence before 1804. Just tell me one and I will google it.

  • NO VIOLENCE PLEASE.

  • Carla, u should learn to read, because i already named 3 of them...

  • hey MyssMoxie u look like Maya

  • Good job! nice video!

  • Thank you for telling everyone about our history and that the media makes Haiti look like the entire country is ravaged by poverty, Haiti is beautiful and so are our people. Congratulations for taking the initiative to research your family and your many heritages.

  • GO GIRL !! ..... here iz a TRUE HAITIAN rite thur ppl ... Continue comme ca miss moxie

  • hi moxie i aint lie right i realy like what you did i will love to do it to but a little prblm cause me cant do it what i realy wanna tell you we maybe family you look like my parents

  • GWEEMO...... VERY PRETTY

  • Cool video!

  • I didn't Google it. I go to school. That's where I learned it.

  • Great Vid! I feel the same as u. I am a Dark skinned African American, but all of my life and all of the time people ask me if I am Hatian. I look like my mom's dad. My mom did not know her paternal grandfather at all. I wonder if he was Hatian or from the part of Africa where the Hatians came from. I have even fooled Hatians with my look. Although my mom is never mistaken for Hatian, so I wonder if it is the influence of my dad's Bahamian mom's genes. I would love to know and share!

  • hi miss moxie! im also haitian and my paternal grandmother is from jacmel. shes completley mixed as well ( i believe shes venezuelean (sp?) dutch and haitain) i have always wanted to go to haiti and see where my family was born. but no one wants to join me, maybe one day i will ;)

  • HAiti 2 di bone :)

  • hey myss Moxie..thanks for sharing your experience... I'm glad you went back.....its sad to see how the media portray the image of this country and its people...where can we wacth the rest of the video.

  • Damn, I've been watching your hair videos, and never saw this one: I had no idea you are haitian !!! (I am too)

Jacmel is SUCH a beautiful town, I love going there to chill.

Just wanted to big you up. lol

  • Yeah I agree with what you said...my family is from Haiti as well, and I had to do a geneology research project...and I found out that my great grandmother is from Jacmel and she is Lebanese/Syrian as well...So I had no idea that my grandmother's mom is Syrian...the explain lots of things...

  • correction. Haiti is the first black republic period not just in the caribbean. pretty good vid though.

  • Correction to your correction: Haiti is the first black republic in the NORTHERN hemisphere!!!!

  • how is it in the Northern hemisphere? name the other black republics please. note the word republic? thanks

  • I meant WESTERN! Wise ass! Much love :)

  • lol. i wasn't trying to be a wiseass. much love to you too

  • I know! But hey, we don't want to post untruths on here.... lol

  • true but at least u didn't go on a rampage like some of the idiots here on youtube

  • I dislike those idiots too much to be like them .... lololol....

  • Haiti was the first black republic in the entire world...

  • Where do you get your facts from? Don't worry kiddo, we got you. What I said was right. Google it, ok?! :(

  • @nile82

Haiti is not the first Black republic. They are the first to have gained independence from Europeans in the Western Hemisphere, but obviously countries and republics exhisted BEFORE being occupied by Europeans.

  • oh my gosh!!! Haiti represent!!!! HHHHHEEEEEYYYY!!! I absplutely love my heritage!!! There are a few of us in Europe!!!

  • i'm haitian too!!! GREAT VIDEO! can u speak creol?? your family are from jacmel?? theres alot of people from jacmel that have sirian heritages. oh and you look beautiful ^-^

  • How wonderful that you got to meet your grandfather! Thanks for sharing.

    Reese

  • very positive keep up the good work

  • cool my grandfather is syrian

  • You should try a genealogical dna test to go even further back. i heard it wasn't too accurate because it reveals conflicting data with other amongst the several popular companies that do it.

  • because rhe further you go back the more ancestors you have eg.4 grand parents ,8 great grand parents thn 16,32 and so on and many of those could be from evrywhere

  • I'm Haitian, and Natural. I love my country. It is true, our history is beautiful!!!

  • she's Hott!!!!

  • omg im half haitian and i so want to go there one day!!!

  • I'm Haitian too!! go HAITI!!!!

  • I know its not intentional but make sure next time u don't sell Haiti short ok, not just the 1st black republic in the carribean, but the 2nd republic in the western hemisphere period after America. Safe haven for run away slaves from all over and even free american blacks who america didn't want in the 1820's, assisting Bolivar w/ his revolution to liberate South America,

  • @heyshins Second to be free after America ( if you're looking only at the term freedom), but 1st BLACK REPUBLIC (cannot believe i'm repeating this:(.... smh), cause even though America was free most of the slave were not.......(thinking of it some until today).

NB. In my opinion so please do not cut my head off

  • Also home of the only successful slave rebellion. Its also where Columbus & crew established the 1st New World Settlement "European" named La Navidad. Home of the biggest fortress built in the Western Hemisphere "La Citadelle Laferriere" built by self emancipated former slaves. I wonder why they talk so much sh!@#$ about us!! Ayiti cherie plus belle pais passe ou nan poin!!!!!

  • haiti means moutainous land in the taino langueage

  • Last time I went to Haiti, was when I was 12, I need to go pay my family a visit.

I havent seen them in forever....LOL!!

  • i'm SO glad you showed haiti in this light. i wanna know more about my heritage as well. it's a beautiful thing. :) how'd you get started?

  • Oopses MyssMoxie...I misread, I am so glad you showed this video. I haven't been to Haiti in years. Thanks

  • cool, nice video and glad u had that experience to go meet ur grandfather and see Haiti. I wish I could go to haiti now... lol

  • Omg !! You're haitian !! Are you from Port au prince ? Jacmel !! I'm haitian too! Do you speak kreyol ?? What's your favorite hatian meal? Lambi or griot or plantains?? Mrs Moxie please anwser !!!

  • haha. Lambi for me! Stopped eating pork about 13 years ago, so its a NO GO on the griot. but BOY is it missed. Plantains is a definite. no, i dont speak kreyol. can understand. well, i take that back i might be able to speak it but its been a looong time. not from PAP...my parents were born there. i was born in the US.

  • Hey love it...but way are Plantains a no?

  • oh my dearest...u misunderstood. plantains are astounding YES. i can eat plantains everyday. i had a plate of them yesterday at this yummy brazilian restaurant. they were official!

  • pouki sa ou pa apramm a pale kreyol.i gonna teach you creole if you want. you have t come first in paris

  • was talking to my grandma about lambi yesterday!! Its hard to find a perfectly cooked one. hmmm... Cheap broke college student food isnt good :(

  • @MyssMoxie Just a bit of history the name "Haiti" derive fr the Arawak Indian language Ayiti, Bohio or Quisqueya "originals of the Island" means "Land of many mountains" (Hopefully I translated it well for you "Terre Montagneuse), the name was restored to the country, a promess made by Toussaint Louverture And Dessalines to the indigenous people for helping them and their people hide, travel, find, food, remedies through the mountains and the fact that most of them were killed so in their honor

  • Im going to Haiti this summer for the 1st time, also the first time on a plane. I am looking forward to it :)

  • omg and I love Caberet and wanted a group as well, good luck to you and your friends

  • im tellin u, Peppur and the fab chicks of Harlem's Night Cabaret are fantastic!

  • Great video very informative and Im glad you had a great time and spent time with your family! :) I need to find my roots as well

  • yes! finding more about your family is a wonderful thing

  • Wow, this is great. I wanna learn what I'm mixed with, as far as my parents & other relatives know I'm African/Black Decent, Irish, and Native American, but my Grandmother isn't sure thats it. I'mma be doing a lot of googling today!

  • good luck on ur googling! lemme know how it goes!

  • thanks. i found a lot of websites i'm gonna discuss it with my dad & mom. so overall it went great.

  • Great video. I agree about learning your lineage and family history. I just got back from driving halfway across country to go to my grandmother's funeral but I got to spend time with so much of my extended family that I rarely get to see, up to a great-great aunt, even.

Knowing your history will change who you are and how you represent yourself and show respect for those before you.

That is so awesome that you got to spend time with your grandfather, he's looks vibrant! =D

  • "Knowing your history will change who you are and how you represent yourself and show respect for those before you." -- yes. u are 100% correct.

  • Its great that you knowwhere you come from, its funny because when I first came across your video I thought you were from the middle east. I really wanted to ask but I decided not to because some times people get offended. You look a bit like a friend of mine, she is originally from Turkey. Anyway thanks for sharing:)

  • ha. yes. i like to call myself the united nations :-)

  • I love this vlog, thank you for sharing

  • thanks! your welcome!
