  • The way she put the mic down and still kept singing lol!

  • What a voice! Very touchy and emotional! Her voice will stay alive for the next centuries! ...

Thanks a lot Patti, for singing that great song for all of us.

    God bless you forever!

  • omg, i can't stop from falling in love with her... to Ms. Patti LaBelle, please release a new album...

  • All I can say is O M G !!! she moved me to tears

  • her hair matched her outfit !!

  • And she STILL does that today in 2011!! smh thats a senseless gift right there! cuz you not suppose to be able to do things like that, and it sound good! Thats just crazy!!

  • I mean really!! Killin the stage while singing INTO the mic is one thing, i mean hey, thats expected...but to WALK AWAY from the mic and still be heard, and with a smile, still kill the song AND BE HEARD...come on!! The girl got the gift!

  • she's just rediculous!! makes no sense!! walk away from the damn mic and she still destroying the stage!

  • stay forever young girl

  • i remember when i first watched this, and i fell in love with patti labelle! that power is amazing!

  • long live diva pattie foever pattie is the baddest diva in the game hands down

  • I always wonder why more people don't remember this? I watched all of Live Aid in 1985 as a teenager - the whole thing - The Who, Queen, Bowie, Petty, Madonna etc and this absolutely wiped the floor with all of them. Just a masterclass in performance.

  • I remember seeing LIVE Aid like it was yesterday.....

SOMEWHERE in my attic, I have the ENTIRE Live Concert RECORDED on VHS Tapes...

Remember when YOU use to record TV shows on VHS ???

Such memories....I've GOT to figure out how to convert all of those PRICELESS VHS tapes to DVD/or my computer !!!!

    LOL!!!!!!!

  • One of the greatest vocalists/performers of the last century..

  • Genial und unvergesslich

  • Fantastic.

  • What could Dylan says when he showed this great performance ???? !!!!!

  • was there that day!! where did the years go??? ach well.........onwards and onwards.....:)

  • after years of watching this clip, just noticed that that was loretta divine singing back up!

  • @blkillusions No that was not Loretta Divine.

  • The legend delivers another spectacular performance! I love this version... my favourite!

  • This is what you call World Class...Somebody tell Simon Cowell!

  • what all this talk about some fucking GHOST???

  • Love how she said Bob Dylan at the beginning.

  • GOOSEBUMPS

  • Very emotional performance. Mrs. Labelle was really possessed that day. She sang her heart out and the high notes away from the microphone was somenthing really amazing.

No wonder she is a legend in the music world.

    Love you Mrs Labelle...................

    José - Brazil

  • One of my all time favourite performances ever ever ever ever!!!!!!!

  • I don't know how many years it's going to take, for eveyone in this world to learn, but let me say it like this! There is only one "God", no matter what you may call him, he's still God! There is only one "world", no matter how many planets become known!, And there is only one "Patti Labelle", don't get me wrong!, there have been singers that have song a song. But dear "Patti", all you can do is shake your head and say, but try not to yell she "SANG"!!!, that song. "PATTI", is touched by God!!!!

  • @sirtevin You really ruined it with the god babble

  • God bless u Patti!

  • This is the best performance of Patti. I just thought about something: Alot of people call her high notes and style of singing screaming, but she is a good singer and why have the talent and not use it. I have the We Are The World 10th Anneversary DVD with the Live Aid performance and Patti stuck out because she was singing so loud. I noticed alot of people laughing and looking at her funny. No, she shouldn't have been doing that on a group performance, but that's just Patti's style. Any fool

  • @kdrayf01 could see that she just loves singing. It may not be some people's style but no one can say she has no talent.

  • i have never heard a woman sing better than this, she is amazing, i love whitney, celine , diana ross, dionne warwick, all these great singers, but honestly patti puts even them a little bit in the shade with this performance!!!!

  • I cant tell you how grateful i am... I've never forgotten this performance... so good to see it again!

  • Hello @rabt1952. You sweet lovely man! I also cried on the 13th of July 1985. Me myself was 22 "way back then". Funny, we have the same (Chinese) sign, which should be rabbit/cat. Ever since then, my life has never been the same again. I knew LaBelle, but i did not know Patti LaBelle.

Emotions are my fuel, miss Patti inspires me (to say the least) and you using the word "silly" referring to yourself makes me feel a little bit sad. HEY! You are simply beautiful & wonderful! We know! I love you x

  • i was 8 when this happened the words to this song are so pretty then patti lit fire

  • That's how you're wearing a designer dress, without shoes and dancing like there'll be no tomorrow! likable :)

  • she was in full flight that evening....in her hometown, on global tv, singing in front of a HUGE crowd and she made it so intimate and personal. She's gotta be one of the better singers / performers of the last century. She was well known before LIVE AID but I think this performance really put her on the map, in my opinion. I think she was on the New Attitude tour at the time and after this we saw a lot more of her on tv...

  • God bless Patti

  • I look to my Queens when i am low. but i am sure chaka, Tina GLadys, Pattie etc.. wwill help. 4 yrs and i feel like a big ol fat biatch, moaning, at 25 yrs young man to another man. i cook, clean, wash, spend, work. What else can i do?

  • i remember seeing this...my buddy worked backstage at the crafts table...and superstarz were just clearing a path for her when she finished and headed backstage...they were speechless...many of them never had the LABELLE EXPERIENCE before...totally spellbinding, and the material that she picked...LENNONS' IMAGINE, AND DILLONS' FOREVER YOUNG...so spiritual. peace MS. LABELLE.

  • I just have to comment again.

This amazing performance is unsurpassable, truely awesome.

It has to be up there with Lorraine Ellison's performance of Stay With Me.

  • @rabt1952 I cry as well

  • I cried on the night of 13 July 1985 when this perfomance first tore at my heart. I was 34 way back then. I am heading swiftly towwards my 60th year, and this silly old man still weeps buckets at this emotional and inspirational performance.

May your heart always be joyful

And may your song always be sung

    May you stay forever young.

    Awesome, totally awesome.

Thank you Patti, thank you from Scotland.

  • @rabt1952 My dear "Silly old man".... When this was broadcasted, I was 22 and now I'm heading swiftly towards my 50 yh year. And my experience (in terms of being touched, emotions, tears) was and is exactly the same as yours:-). So tell with age, that doesn't matter.

Miss Patti has been my muse ever since and she definitely made my life even more beautiful and rewarding. I really deeply LOVE this unearthly gifted & beautiful woman-spirit. Bye from Sander from Amsterdam:-)

  • The one , The only, Miss Patti singing live to a global audience of over 1 Billion WITHOUT a micrphone!!!! it was the voice heard throughout the universe , it was great day !!!!!

  • LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT! I saw this in the 80's and it brings back memories of a time when there were REAL singers. The singers today can't even fathom giving a performance like this.

Patti made tears come from my eyes....thanks for posting this!

  • singing is completely different then it is now. this is some real singing and anyone who dis agrees is a weirdo. bird

  • oh my.. i love 3:27

  • i remeber seeing this at at 3am in the morning when I was beginning to flag having watched since Status Quo opened the concert at 12 midday the previous day and i was gob smacked

  • The best, first, most amazing, largest, starriest, most individually talented woman who ever lived - everyone else pales into insignificance beside the Almighty Miss LaBelle!

  • After Queen and u2 , this is it.

    Brilliant. 100%

  • My God Son sent me this video for my birthday. I cried all day. I think I played about 100 times that day. This is Patti at her best. No one sounds like this. I Love You Patti. And thanks to Bob Dylan for writing this song.

  • OMG!!!! if my voice was that powerful that i could be hear in a huge stadium withg no mic!!!1...Lord have mercy id be tearin it it up EVERY WHERE!!! lol

  • "PATTI LABELLE", Is the best there is, the best there was, and the best there'll ever be...... "I TRUELY LOVE YOU PATTI"!

  • i sooo love this, i love the words and what a wonderful brilliant patti labelle...even whitney cant top her, she is so amazing, makes me cry every time!!

  • the best singer ever!

  • the greatest forever !!!!!

  • it just hit me all over again.....Patti, was an accomplished, revered, wealthy and prominent legend even then in 1985. But the one thing that has never changed is that she always sings as if she;s singing for her life. Like her very existence was in jeopardy or something. I defy anyone to recall a time, where she mailed it in. Ive seen her about a dozen times, live...and I have NEVER seen her half step. NOT ONCE.

  • @MisterCrazyLegs

"Singing for her life" YES that is the best description of how Patti gets when she sings. Ther have been times when I have watched her and thought she was literally going to singe herself crazy. You hit the nail on the head with that one.

  • Everyone was star struck when they seen this. Everyone was trying to get Patti to come and be appart of their organization or sing for them. Diana Ross made a public appearance about this is what I remember most. She applauded Patti. She was going through with her sister at this time. So she gave it all. She says to this day that when she sings forever young she has to walk away from the mic, her range will continue to go up, and people will be death if she sing the whole thing in the mic.

  • I remember this live "just" she stole the show such a powerful voice and prescence.Whose like that now.

  • @simonsteam ...NO ONE. Patti, is the "Last of the Mohicans".

  • WoW

  • I still get chills watching this how many years later?

  • Awsome powerhouse performance. We dont have any young singers with this power and stage presence today.!

  • Fantasia now is so much like Patti then

  • Great performance !.

  • I remember when this come out and critics was on her boy. Patti was the talk of the town. She was the highest paid celeb and artist at the time of this and when this came about it shot her up through the roof. I remember Diana Ross saying theirs no way she could ever hit one of her notes just crying.

  • were they good reviews? Better have been!

  • I know what you mean, every time I hear Patti sing I cry. No other female singer has the ability to do that to me. She is definately the worlds greatest singer to me

  • i cried the first time i watched this, which was a long time ago, and it still makes me cry....ive never seen a better or more emotional performance by a female singer!!

  • I remember staying up for Patti LaBelle's performance, too! Even though she was already famous, I didn't know who she was when she took the stage, but boy, did I know who she was ... and so did the rest of the world...by the time she was done performing. Just brilliant. This performance still gives me the goosies. Love you, Patti. May you Stay Forever Young.

  • I'm only 19 so I wasn't around for the original concert and to be honest I had never heard of Patti!! My mam got the Live Aid concert DVD a couple of years ago and I started watching it and 3 performances blew me away, Queen, Eric Clapton and Patti.

  • go head ms patti

  • she is singing her ass off i wounder how far you could here her from the arena.

  • In her book Patti says she gives everything she has when she performs, and did so specifically in this performance due to the things she was going through off stage at the time, when she got done she was still shaking and other stars and workers were just in awe and staring at her when she walked to her trailer, like they were seeing her for the first time, stars were star struck and amazed by her after watching this! Proves she's the best ever!!!

  • That's the reason why we love Ms. Patti Labelle....

  • This is the most beautiful and probably one of the best performance ever on earth. Wow what a voice, God bless her now and always Mrs. Patti LaBelle.

  • .....this is for me one of the best live-performance in time.....what a voice....full of soul and heart...i saw it 1985 live on german TV.

  • sang girl

  • This performance was one of the best at Live Aid. I remember staying up til the wee hours of the morning waiting to see what she was going to do and she blew everyone away with this song. She also did IMAGINE. it was truly an OMG moment.

That day was pretty emotional anyway with everyone around the world coming together and watching her work the stage - and giving - she just blew everyone away. Go on Miss Patti. To this day, she still rocks it!

  • really really great

  • I had this recorded on Betamax. Now I have found it again on YouTube. What a performer, truly wonderful.

  • Thank you for a wonderful song.

  • It's no wonder we fans adore Patti; she gives us all she's got and more. No singer like Patti anywhere.

  • look at the people?? WOW.

I love Divas like: Patti, Gladys' Diana and Aretha, they are the originals!!

  • I have seen this performance so many times and I still can't believe she did that...Only Patti!

  • I have this performance on my Ipod =D

  • Whitney, Mariah, Celine and even Aretha probably couldn't pull that one off. Maybe Regine but Patti has a connection to her voice I just can't understand.

  • Patti was possessed by the holy ghost on this performance. On another note Regine in my opinion is just loud. She has no runs or riffs and when she tries they sound like shit(look at her cover for butterfly) at the big note she tries to to do it exactly like mariah which leads regine sounding FLAT

  • I agree

  • The Phoenix of Philadelphia givin' the power at 5:03 & the crowd realizing it at 5:14-- Can't nobody say this ain't the DIVA of SOUL! (Hit it Patti) , I mean singing to a coliseum without a mic!!!! (WHAT)!

  • the asshole who has the disgusted look on his face around 4:29, I'd like to beat the shit out of him. Patti is incredible.

  • Oh Patti, I do love and Respect you xx

  • The show must go on.. I will always remember this performance. Ms Patti you came through on the day! Brilliant.....

  • u have to remember this 1985 my moms and aunts use to dress like that...

  • lol i kno right! my aunt and my mom has pictures from the 80s and they have these huge hats and skin tight dresses with big ol' shoulder pads.. lol its hilarious but i guess that was the style back then.. hahaha but still love patti labelle!!!

  • this woman brings me to tears every damn time!!!!

especially when she steps away from the mic and you can still hear her singing. she was actin a fool with that performance!!!! and of course, she did that song justice.

I LOVES ME MY PATTI LABELLE!!! AND WHOEVER DOESN'T LIKE PATTI, NEEDS A SLAP AND A WAKE UP CALL!!!! LMAO!!

  • i love this song and i love patti thanks you

  • ANOINTED!!!!!!!!

  • wonderful

  • Patti's the true Queen of soul! I like her so much better than Aretha. Not only is Patti a wonderful singer, she is very down to earth - adopted kids and is still married to the same man after 30 plus years. Patti is a national treasure who's talent cannot be touched. Love you Patti!!!

  • Patti's not married anymore. She was div. in 2000

  • Ohhhhh. My bad. Thanks for the info. Still love Patti - can't wait for her new album. I hear she's recording with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis with songs written by Diane Warren...anyone know when that's being released????

  • @befree1619

    on new years day 2000!

  • she got divorced years ago...

  • i love you patti patti

  • saw this on televison when i was 15 and fell in love there and there unique

  • Remember seeing it too on tv-watched the whole live aid concert and patti just sent a buzz thru me!!!

  • patti can blow i love this

  • patti and that range is what i love about her. She know how to control how she sings.

  • Wow when patti was shaking in front of those white boys the blond boy was scared and looking around to see if anyone else was scared

  • Lol, I love that part

  • she sat the mic down... walked away... n u still heard her... she is wow... i love her...pattie is untouchable... there is noone who compares to her...she gives her all...

  • yrs, after Live Aid and she said she was in such a "trance" that she didnt even remember singing the song!...Huh!?. And she said that the only reason why she relented to seeing the preformance of this medley was because so many people told her that it was one of the best performances they had ever seen. It was a big deal to a lot of folks. I was 17, then. Cried like a baby, watching it at home. My step dad was from Philly and he and my mom went to see her....She's one of those historic sinsgers.

  • this is quite simply the most powerful and heart rending version of this song!hail queen patti hail king bob!

  • Patti Labelle

What an amazing artist. A living legend. This clip always makes me cry. Such a beautiful and touching performance!

  • whitney houston is in the backup singre group!!!

  • Its not Whitney Houston looks a little like her though ;-)

  • But i heard she started with her aunt dione and her moms friend patti ;)

  • I discovered Patti with this performance... I was in shock. Amazing.

  • well, i geuss i have to fess up; this performance brings tears to my eyes, too. everytime.

  • Amazing my heart crys each time i hear her beautiful voice

  • I never get tired of watching this AMAZING performance! There ain't NOBODY who could pull off singing to an OUTDOOR crowd of this magnitude WITHOUT A MIC and still be HEARD! And I read a rumor that Tina and Dionne were backstage in tears when she sang this song.

    Patti is diva personified!

  • I was in tears just watching it. She is such a wonderful, giving, and beautiful person. Patti is simply phenominal. I have never known or heard of anyone that could sing like this.

  • So were the stage hands and backstage guest which numbered around 300..I worked for the catering company that served the entertainers that night, and we heard her backstage with a mic....

  • Wow Mechi59! Now I'm getting choked up again.

  • Holy shizz! I hadn't seen this performance since the day it happened in '85...it made me cry then and it made me cry again today. There's such joy in my heart when I hear her sing this! Thanks for posting it! :-)

  • PURE POWER..INCREDIBLE VOICE

  • i think this is brilliant

  • Simply wonderful:)

  • patti and aretha are very different

  • She will blow Aretha away, but I don't about Chaka

  • Comment removed

  • Not in a million years. Would she do that.

  • Thanks for this video. When I was young, we would go to a Patti Labelle concert and come out very pleased. She gives theatrics, sincerity, and a very big part of herself. If you never seen her live, treat yourself because she's on tour this summer. One of the best entertainers in the World.

  • Our one and only Patti LaBelle. Long live

    Patti.

  • FIERCE!

  • Girl is amazing. Incredible vocals. The fact that she could sing that loudly without a microphone and still be heard. Powerful.

  • godthis brings back great memories i remeber watchin this live she did this song a great tribute

  • Bravo Patti!! beautiful voice and a soul full of goodness.

  • Chur Patti gurl ... sang gurlfriend! wooooo

  • Thanks for posting this clip I used to watch it everyday.

  • May God Bless and Always Keep YOU Too Patti Labelle

  • No new age artist I can think of can perform like this!!!

  • Only Patti would walk away from her mic in an outdoor football stadium and STILL be heard. Power. Pipes. Patti.

    Amazing!!!

  • So say we all!

  • Bring back the 80's campaign :)

  • This is an amazing treasure that we thought was lost to the editors!! That B-word doesn't even need a mike to fill up a football stadium....The True Queen of Everything!!!

  • I've listened to the original version of 'Forever Young'.

But I very much prefer Patti's version.

    I don't know why.

    But I do.
