I have an 03 protege that has been flawless. I went to buy a 2011 Mazda3 and I didn't fit (I'm 6' 3"). What a disappointment! Strabge, I fit in the 03 protege but not in the 11 Mazda 3. I wished they had designed it for taller people.
It doesn't matter which car you buy if you live in Canada where there might be more snow than other places you should opt for the undercoating. I live in the West Coast of Canada and we have more rain than snow. I undercoated my car and every car I have owned. It helps with the sound factor and protection. I understand what some people are saying about the paint reliability on the car. My experience is not good, we have alot of semi trucks on the 401.

I choose to live in Chilliwack because my family lives here and it is affordable. We also have a wonderful community with wonderful views all around.
11 months new into my car and still loving every minute I'm behind the wheel. I stand back from a distance all the time just to admire how much I love the new style of the sport gte. I think it is one of the best looking compact cars out there and for sure the most fun to drive.
@Ainaloa true but Mazda designed the big smiley face for a reason. First, its so there is less wind noise along with wind resistance and second is because the big smiley face allows more air into the engine thus creating higher fuel economy.

My seal on the driver's side of the sunroof is ripping away and the passenger side is starting to do the same. When I run my fingers into the track there are sharp metal pieces there. Have an appointment for next Saturday to have the mechanics at Mazda to look at this defect. Hopefully mine is an isolated problem...watch your seals if you have a sunroof...
I have owned my Mazda 3-GTE since October 2009-bought it brand new. I have to say the paint job is very thin and poor! Get a touch up pen right away! The ride is very harsh and noisy, probably due to the low profile tires..not sure.-Very responsive car that is for sure and lot's of power with a 2.5. Lot's of toy's and sound system is excellent with the 10 speaker Bose package. Gas mileage is extremely poor...averaging between 27-29 mpg...bad compared to other cars in it's category.
Mazda 3 is really nice. Mazda is it's own company. Ford just shares the frames and engines with them on some vehicles, not all, just some. Like the Focus has the 3 frame and engine, Fusion has the 6 frame and shares 6's engine too, you get the idea. I do my research, lol :)

I was looking at a Mazda 3 2005 the other day. Took my camera with me to look at some of the problem areas of Mazda 3 and indeed Mazda 6 ... Rust around weel arches and the undercarriage. The 2005 model was plagued by rust on the undercarriage. The dealership said that was not a problem, all cars have rust on the undercarriage.
On this car the rust was starting to flake on the undercarriage... a 2005 model! It was also treated for rust on all(!) weel arches.
rear of the car looks pretty decent. Front of the car looks ABSOLUTELY RETARDED!!! WTF is up with that G*Y-AZZ dorky smile on the front bumper???? Mazda TOTALLY screwed up with this aspect and it will drive alot of people away.

2010mazda3gte, the only thing I can answer to this is that Ford is not as reliable as Mazda and you don't have a 2.5 engine in the Focus.I can also say as a Mechanic that the Focus has many glitch.

God is this thing ugly! 3's make up 1/3??? I'm willing to bet they blame abysmal sales in `10 on the recession, the `11 convinces them they screwed up, and `12 becomes a complete redesign. ... That front end is hideous and why I will probably end up buying either a Jetta or Focus.
I love the way it looks (especially the hatchback version), so it's all about personal taste. And I think the fact that 3's make up 1/3 proves that your taste is pretty weird.
i have an 08 mazda 3 sedan and love it, its only the base model with a 2.0L but its quick, responds well, and good on gas, cant say one bad thing about it and cant say enough good things about it.
the only thing i don't like is the center console thing(where the radio is) is very big, i feel like they could have made it so it could store stuff inside? and the big grille is really ugly. but i think my dad is going to buy a mazda 3 sport. fun car to drive, though.
What's it doing as far as gas mileage? I know Mazda tends to sacrifice just a little on the MPG to make a more fun car to drive but still want to get an idea on that...
because they put the more powerful engine in it it took away from the gas mileage but they redesigned the body so it would be more aerodynamic which added it back on. i agree on mazdas sacrificing but this year they've seem to notice it and actually have done something about it which is good. Its estimated 25/33 which is a spec away from the civic sedan
It's a fun ride. Definitely nice. I rented one today for the week and its so smooth, it turns to the road to butter. The power isn't that big a deal to me right now with the gas prices how they are. The mpg in this is like 30 highway, which is decent enough. I like the dash layout.

Where are the pop up head lamps? No guts no glory. When Mazda can make a couple with pop up's it will be "back" till then it looks like shit on the outside to me. I like RX7 not this look. Sucks. boring.

I got one of these 3 weeks ago in black, and I must say the front "smile" isn't as prominent when against a darker paint. It's the best car ive had, the interior is awesome and the smoothness and handling of it is amazing. It took me a while to warm up to the new shape but now I love it!
Oh Yah man completely agree. They took it to a horrible level and made boxier lines that don't work welll with the original design. I have a 09' M3, And I"m so glad I got it. Close up the 2010 is nice but from an overall look, it's bubbly and gross

You will notice that many japanese cars have a "face" to them, and usually it is happy. It follows normal human patterns of recognition and is an easy way for manufacturers to gain brand appeal / recognition.
However, it is the mazda3, which is already very well known, makes you wonder exactly what mazda are up to.
I can't wait to get mine!! and ppl who are complaining about the front i suggest you go for the iTouring becuz it has a nice chrome accent on the grill that will take away that big mouth look. I think they should of put the chrome accent on all the models. but ima stick to the itouring.

the only "not good" about this new mazda 3 is the smiley face on the front. it really messed up the mazda 3. i prefer the old mazda 3 than the new one. it really looks like a kids toy with a smiley face on the front.
I went to go look at this car in person recently. Overall, it's pretty nice, but...
A few things that I found that were not as good as the previous model: Glove box no longer locks on any of the models; on the models with auto transmissions, the housing around the gearshift is VERY cheap looking plastic and metal - it looks like total crap. Also, Mazda used to boast about the fender turn signals that all models used to have, only the S models have the turn signals on the side mirrors now.

But yeah, the 2.5 doesnt get the same milage...although, it makes up for it in the fun-to-drive factor.

I love the way it looks (especially the hatchback version), so it's all about personal taste. And I think the fact that 3's make up 1/3 proves that your taste is pretty weird.

i have an 08 mazda 3 sedan and love it, its only the base model with a 2.0L but its quick, responds well, and good on gas, cant say one bad thing about it and cant say enough good things about it.

the only thing i don't like is the center console thing(where the radio is) is very big, i feel like they could have made it so it could store stuff inside? and the big grille is really ugly. but i think my dad is going to buy a mazda 3 sport. fun car to drive, though.

What's it doing as far as gas mileage? I know Mazda tends to sacrifice just a little on the MPG to make a more fun car to drive but still want to get an idea on that...

because they put the more powerful engine in it it took away from the gas mileage but they redesigned the body so it would be more aerodynamic which added it back on. i agree on mazdas sacrificing but this year they've seem to notice it and actually have done something about it which is good. Its estimated 25/33 which is a spec away from the civic sedan

It's a fun ride. Definitely nice. I rented one today for the week and its so smooth, it turns to the road to butter. The power isn't that big a deal to me right now with the gas prices how they are. The mpg in this is like 30 highway, which is decent enough. I like the dash layout.

Where are the pop up head lamps? No guts no glory. When Mazda can make a couple with pop up's it will be "back" till then it looks like shit on the outside to me. I like RX7 not this look. Sucks. boring.

Pop ups? That's all you care about? Where do you live, 1980's Florida? Do you drive a Pontiac Firebird with T tops, too? This is a very decent version of the 3. It's not stripped down to the RX7 style, but its not as cramped, that's for damn sure.

I got one of these 3 weeks ago in black, and I must say the front "smile" isn't as prominent when against a darker paint. It's the best car ive had, the interior is awesome and the smoothness and handling of it is amazing. It took me a while to warm up to the new shape but now I love it!

It's called "branding". Take a marketing course or something.
You will notice that many japanese cars have a "face" to them, and usually it is happy. It follows normal human patterns of recognition and is an easy way for manufacturers to gain brand appeal / recognition.
However, it is the mazda3, which is already very well known, makes you wonder exactly what mazda are up to.
Check out the new mx5/miata, same deal.

I dont understand mazda designers... Da CAR was ALMOST perfect! BUT WHATS WITH THAT SMILY FACE! It is really Desappointing and Everyone since to notice.Da interior is great altought there is a divorse btwn shape and funtion at da dvd displayer, why do i say this well there is a lovely curve which define da dash but,it seems to be no more than a good looking thing cuz when we go to da displayer it actually is a very small square thing ,and most of da space created by the curve is miss used.

I went to go look at this car in person recently. Overall, it's pretty nice, but...
A few things that I found that were not as good as the previous model: Glove box no longer locks on any of the models; on the models with auto transmissions, the housing around the gearshift is VERY cheap looking plastic and metal - it looks like total crap. Also, Mazda used to boast about the fender turn signals that all models used to have, only the S models have the turn signals on the side mirrors now.
