Just became aware of this lady from a friend. Love it. Makes me wish there was a female version of Beirut out there in the world. Pandora radio station Ella fitzgerald, say hello to the elegant miss Peggy Lee as you sister station
I can't help smiling when I look at her pretty, shining face. Peggy Lee enjoys what she's doing — I dare say, it that rarely happens to contemporary artists.
I love this song... when I was a child my Dad would sing it to us because we'd say can I do my chores tomorrow and following him was Mom with a belt and she said "there will be no manana for your chores they need to be done today".... The wonderful memories of loving parents and a great childhood.. No we didn't get spanked but that belt said "I'll spank you if I have too".. ha ha Thank you so much for sharing.
@jusstargazin lol my dad used to sing this to me when we complained too. Great song... Edmundo Ros did the best version imo but cant find it anywhere.
I wonder who is playing the guitar? I suspect it might be Dezi Arnaz, who worked on Peggy's radio show. and also apparently appeared on other Peggy Lee tunes including Similau.
Hey , don't worry, we didn't think you are lazy, this is just a funny song, also , this means you guys know how to enjoy the life-nothing is a big deal, except happyness!!!
Where did people get the idea that Mexicans are LAZY? The only reason people take siestas in the middle of the day is because it's really too HOT to work in the early afternoon. Usually people in hot countries resume work at 4, and work till 8pm.
@shmuli9 anyone who thinks Mexicans are lazy should visit NYC. If Mexicans were not working there, the city would grind to a halt pretty much straight away.
@ozzyinny Indeed... Though Mexico City isn't the best example.. Still, I find it both dismaying and amusing to see women in Mexico scrubbing their front porches with Pinolen, only to have them get "dirty" REALLY fast. Same with all those white clothes and the baby-bath shaped stone "washing machines".
Peggy Lee really knocked this song out. Hey loosen up anybody who thinks this somehow a negative on Mexican people. I could show you 100 songs about white European peolple that could reflect negatives about them. Of course nobody thats it seriously. It's only a song about a dysfunctionable person that is not highly motivated but lovable. It is cute. For the record Mexican people are very hard working and most know that!
This is a cute song. I don't think it's racist at all. She's just singing about a lazy character...there are lazy characters in all cultures & ethic groups, just as there are hard working & industrious characters! Thanks for sharing this gem with us!
@eyezpopmusic take advantage of black communities? you mean working with black artists at a time where doing so could have seriously hurt her popularity in many parts of the U.S. yeah she was a real monster...
Illuminati=ET kin aka gods, Annunaki, Ea, dragons, angels/demons, Satan, Pepsi, naga, vampires, bluebloods, Al Gore, Windsors, Rothschilds, Rockefellars etc who rule cults like Freemasonry. Some people may think this song stereotypes Mexicans, but Peggy sings it so sweetly and without any malice, that I like it a lot. And after all, there are other folks too who like to put things off a bit and take a nap. It's no sin.
It's also funny how certain people are so biased that they can't get past their hangups to see humor or beauty or some of the other good things in life. (You know, like you, when you called this singer a "chubby faced WHITE girl" under another video?)
I love this song, and I'm Mexican. The notion of Manana didn't come out of thin air, people. We sleep a lot because we're tired from working hard. Lazy has nothing to do with it, cos we don't need a weendow on such a sunny day!
@paddyoski My mom is racist and she lives in New Jersey. I am not racist and live in Texas. If you bring up Mexicans she always says they are lazy. I said mom you have no idea what you are talking about. I told her you go to a Home Depot in Texas and there is a hundred unofficial immigrants so eager for work they would jump into a moving truck to make less than minimum wage.
Well, this is hard to reply to. Plus, any answer I could give would be biased because I'm a big fan of the lady. I'll try, though: she doesn't make fun of the whole Mexican culture or people. It's about a lazy girl living in a dysfunctional family -Married with children doesn't degrade the US, does it?-
Did you know Peggy Lee appeared in the Nat King Cole's Show at the risk of loosing listeners in Southern states at a time when an african american could just wipe the floor at the oval office?
i absolutely love this song, despite some mild racial undertones, which are soothed for me only because sweet, kind, lovely peggy is the one performing. she's an angel.
I loved this song and enjoyed the "mild racial undertones" - Manana is a way of life and too many Americans are stressed out having to WORK, WORK, WORK.
