I love this song along with all of his songs. Once I heard "True Love Ways" song in Spanish. I don't know who sung it if Buddy did or someone else, but it was beautiful. The fellows were neat dressers, clean cut the way I remember and will never forget the Fabulous 50's. Buddy sings with clarity, each word never slurred like Elvis. "RIP Buddy "You made my teen years happy and gave style a whole new meaning.
@reneenewman and @camayes.....You're right. The whole Elvis/King of R&R thing makes me crazy and I was overzealous when I posted that. Buddy was a major factor in creating a genre of music but he didn't create overdubbing.
@palmer8112 You're right. I didn't need to talk bad about Elvis. That said what does top 40 hits have to do with pure talent? Back then there was a thing called Payola...record company reps paid radio dj's to push a record. Not that Elvis needed that but many of the 'Top 40' hits back then were aided by payola. Holly died at 22 an accomplished musician, lyricist and arranger. Elvis may have influenced the Country to R&R switch but so did Chuck Berry, the real King of Rock and Roll.
@TheLuckyman1999 Buddy Holly wrote his own music and lyrics, invented overdubbing and was and is still covered by any band of consequence....no Buddy Holly = No Beatles. Elvis on his best day couldn't carry Buddy's guitar pick

@oirak Well, I was only 2 yrs old in 1963; but, I do know that both John and Paul cited Buddy, Elvis and Little Richard as their biggest musical influences, rather than Cliff Richard. On the other hand, it's possible that they meant that he influenced as far as believing that a British band could make it, internationally, as rock stars.

@ocduff gaga is a meaningless wench with absolute zero originality, she brought nothing new or good to music. She should not be ever remembered. She will be forgotten like most "musicians" of her kind.
Buddy Holly is the true King of Rock N Roll - Elvis was glad to record Country as long as he got to sing - not Holly, he refused when they tried to box him in cuz he was from Texas and he was the first to produce his own music too - a complete bad ass - way ahead of the times and the Beatles' greatest influence
@SaintDick1 dude.....Buddy Holly was a country singer until he saw Elvis Presley sing live In Lubbock , TX in 1955......from the moment he saw Elvis he decided to change to Rock and Roll......It was Elvis who influenced Holly to sing Rock and Roll
And thank God that happened! Two genius artists traveling around America at the same time.
But, Buddy holds a special place for musicians in that he wrote his own songs and was a master on the Stratocaster. Still, he didn't have Elvis' moves.
its crazy looking at other comments how young people are who still listen to buddy holly, i'm 22 myself and thought I was the only one, theres faith in youth still old timers ha i wish buddy got the recognition the beatles did for what he done for music in such a short space of time, no buddy=no beatles
im 24 and loveeee buddy hhe was soo talented and very sexy. his wife was lucky to have such a sweetheart like buddy now that was real love what they had.
@prettylatinachic1 Im 22 now, was 14yr old wen i first got a buddy cd...I love Buddy! hes just the best :) I agree he was gorgeous too... love the glasses and Marc Robinson is my fave tribute to him- hes spot on with everything... its like watching real thing! and yes I think hes sexy too haha :) Watching the story of Buddy Holly brings a tear to my eye xx
hey buddy fan I find that short songs are just so much more catchier but if your looking for longer songs that still keep their effect is Ten years after, The guitarist was the fastest of his time and thats Alvin Lee
@sparwood8 you are an idiot. On a HUGE level. I love Buddy Holly but he couldn't match the talents of Paul McCartney or John Lennon alone. Songs like Imagine, Say Say Say, Beautiful Night, Stand By Me, and so many others will go on forever. There really only a few mainstream song by Buddy Holly that casual listeners will know. Only hardcore fans of Holly know that songs like this and others exist. I do agree that the Rolling Stones suck, though.
@americangirlpower1 Have it your way 'Imagine' was pretty much right off the Communist Manifesto. I loathed the Beatles and always will. This doesn't suggest their music wasn't pleasant sounding. The subtle messages successfully undermined the fabric of America, over a 20 year period of time. The Eastern Mysticism introduced in and through their music did not make America a better place to live. You are 100% entitled to disagree w me, but name calling is for kids ....and Beatles fans :p~
@Shoknifeman What R U talking about here? (Stupid U Tube tecchies don't let us click back to the post, just page new) HEY. Gerry Falwell was A-OK. Only onoes the didn;t like him are the Anti-Christ left wing pinkos/homos/democraps/and draft dodgers living in Canada
@sparwood8 I would try to explain to you how MUCH is wrong about your comment, but, it's obvious that you are so narrow minded that you'd probably break your brain pan trying to understand.
@Shoknifeman narrow mindedness: The buzzword of the Godless left wing. Anything that suggest 'sin' or even the word 'sin' in itself is an offence to you. So why are you even talking to me, if you think I am so numb in the skull?
@sparwood8 Well, since each time I try to talk about my values with people like yourself , all I hear is how I'm "politically correct", then, I feel I have the right to call you RWers Narrow minded...because you are... as for "sin" ; when did I "take offence" to that word? As for your so-called "Christian" ideas, I have nothing against Christians (Both my parents are, for instance); my only beef is Christians who feel that they have to "save" me, or, who try to jam religion into politics.
@Shoknifeman Godless politics are what has ruined this country. Eg; a group of high school kids GAVE a a box of chocolates to a teacher. It contained a bible verse. They were suspended for 'speaking religion.' Bringing switchbaldes, and brass knuck's to school is ok, bullying is ok, but even speak the name of Jesus; U R suspended. How far this country has fallen! That teacher should be fired on the spot; but teachers NEVER get fired (teachers r uniion) And U leftists call US 'intolerant'
@sparwood8 While I agree that a suspension was overdoing it (A talking to would have been fine); your country was FOUNDED partly on the seperation of church and state; so, mixing religion and politics is UnAmerican! WHY should the teacher be fired? She has a right not to have religion forced on her; Anyway, if you were to run a country on religion, WHO's religion do you chose? Frankly, the whole idea of basing modern life on a 4000 year old book of fairy tales makes no sense; now, back to Buddy
@americangirlpower1 just want to make it clear, that the song stand by me is not originated by the beatles, i love beatles im one of thier million or billions of fans worldwide, but did u know that john lennon and paul mcartney was influenced by buddy holly? like what u are saying that buddy couldnt match the beatles talents.? in that part im not agree with you.. as i said at first im in love with the beatles..but for me buddy holly is the first second is the beatles...
This may sound like the rambalings of a Beatles fan but it isn't. I don't understand why anyone cannot like the Beatles. I can if you dislike Oasis or Red Hot Chili Peppers because they have 1 distinct sound. Beatles constantly changed genre. Also They relased 291 songs, at least one or two of them you'd like. Whereas someone like Coldplay have only made 4 albums and have 1 distinct sound. If you dislike all 291 songs, You still can't deny what The Beatles have achieved in Rock. :)
@danutcase66 I understand your being puzzled. The Beatles did a lot of things to America that we still don't see yet, and many never will. Not intentionally, but their messages were evil. Subtle, but evil. promoted drug use and it worked to drug down America.. I know they sing about love and etc, but ... aww this is a long story. Too long for here
Evil is going a bit far. Drugs aren't Evil. Those that kill people are. Now they didn't promote drugs. If hearing Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds convinced a load of people to take LSD, well then that's their choice. Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds was actually about Lennon's son Julian's picture he painted at school and showed Lennon. The Beatles aren't evil at all, and a person who is knowledgeable of them would know this. I take your point but I think what yoou're saying it harsh. ;)
@danutcase66 Very harsh. I'm even called Old School by the so called 'old school'
Lucy not all that bad a song, but Getting high with a little help from my 'friends' definitely is, and what do you think happens to the Psyche of someone who sings that song to themselves over and over etc?? Anyhow, this is not winnable. Have a nice day
All i'm saying is give The Beatles a chance. Appreciate their music rather than possible obscure messages in their lyrics.
It's actually quite rare but very nice to have this intelligent and well-mannered debate with another intelligent person for a change on Youtube isn'tit? lol.
@danutcase66 Thanks. As for U-Tube/Chat forum arguements; it seems 99% of the hassles are simply pride and vanity run amok. (pointless) . . so I avoid them, but at the same time, can be blunt to a fault.
@danutcase66 dude....the Beatles openly advocated drug use to everyone.....their fucking idol was Timothy Leary.....McCartney gets busted about every 3 years for marijuana ...Ringo was "drunk" for 30 years.....Lennon was strung out on heroine...I am not condemning them.....but I sure in the hell ain't going to say they were model citizens
@danutcase66 Well if you contrast them to gangsta rap, heavy metal, death metal... yeah.. they are like choirboys... but they opened the door, so to speak.. also agree that much of their stuff is very soothing.. but still an ounce of cyanide hidden in a gallon of water is still poison
Whoa there cowboy. Buddy Holly is a God yes...but The Beatles are too. I would trade almost anything for your wish, but The Beatles!?!
Yes, Buddy Holly influenced The Beatles. But just because something influenced something else doesn't necessarily make the influencer better than the influencee. Yes Buddy Holly along with Chuck Berry and some others are the fathers of Rock 'n' Roll but don't take anything away from those who advanced it to what it is today e.g The Beatles
@sparwood8 The Rolling Stones gladly... the Beatles?... not so sure; i know, let's trade the Stones & Nirvanah for Buddy! (I can't stand either band anyway)
@lollielovley Your grandad, God bless him,has given you a marvellous gift in life. I'm planning to give my own grandchildren the same gift .but they're a bit too young at the moment.I'm pleased to say my son and daughter were very negative about Buddy when they were teenagers, but now they've grown up they are now very positive about him,
@lollielovley hi can you tell me what country you live in as I'm in the UK. do you like 1920s jazz on 78s as I collect them too.I ask this as its seems your age group in the UK don't seem as interested as the usa.
Dying before he was 23 is really such a tagedy not only for him but for us. Such great music was still yet to come from Holly. We'll never get to hear it. Sad.
Hottopicwatcha-I appreciate your enthusiasm for Buddy Holly. However, with all due respect, to mention Tupac, a lowlife ghetto criminal, in the same breath as an immortal like Buddy Holly, is ludicrous.
What a great song Great singer God needed him so he was called home.
It is sad that Oldie Radio Station In Los Angeles Don't Play Buddy Holly but we get crap like Play that Funk Music White boy shoved Down Our Throat. That song along with Brother Louie Polished Turds.
THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!! This is my all time favourite Buddy Holly song. I first heard it on a day trip to the coast. We were a crowd from the local ice rink and a guy on the coach sang it with his guitar and we all supplied the backing, this would have been in the early '60s and I was in my teens
There was a song from the 80's where the melody was very similiar to this one.The song went like "to do you good would sure do me good - let me help..."
Great video! I wish his songs were longer too. But, the AM stations had a limit of 3 minutes for the songs they would play. Longer songs were only carried by the FM stations which were listened to by the few, not the many.
among other things, the very last photo of

@SaintDick1 dude.....Buddy Holly was a country singer until he saw Elvis Presley sing live In Lubbock , TX in 1955......from the moment he saw Elvis he decided to change to Rock and Roll......It was Elvis who influenced Holly to sing Rock and Roll
jmallton 1 year ago
@jmallton
And thank God that happened! Two genius artists traveling around America at the same time.
But, Buddy holds a special place for musicians in that he wrote his own songs and was a master on the Stratocaster. Still, he didn't have Elvis' moves.

My favorite Buddy Holly song and it's definitely better with the backing vocals on it
rather than the version without.

A great singer and song. On the early vinyl records they were restricted on how much you can get on, hence it being short.

@sparwood8 Thanks for all the thumbs up
sparwood8 1 year ago
@sparwood8 you are an idiot. On a HUGE level. I love Buddy Holly but he couldn't match the talents of Paul McCartney or John Lennon alone. Songs like Imagine, Say Say Say, Beautiful Night, Stand By Me, and so many others will go on forever. There really only a few mainstream song by Buddy Holly that casual listeners will know. Only hardcore fans of Holly know that songs like this and others exist. I do agree that the Rolling Stones suck, though.
americangirlpower1 1 year ago
@americangirlpower1 Have it your way 'Imagine' was pretty much right off the Communist Manifesto. I loathed the Beatles and always will. This doesn't suggest their music wasn't pleasant sounding. The subtle messages successfully undermined the fabric of America, over a 20 year period of time. The Eastern Mysticism introduced in and through their music did not make America a better place to live. You are 100% entitled to disagree w me, but name calling is for kids ....and Beatles fans :p~

@sparwood8 And when did you begin to have these delusions, Mr. Falwell?
Shoknifeman 1 year ago
@Shoknifeman What R U talking about here? (Stupid U Tube tecchies don't let us click back to the post, just page new) HEY. Gerry Falwell was A-OK. Only onoes the didn;t like him are the Anti-Christ left wing pinkos/homos/democraps/and draft dodgers living in Canada
sparwood8 1 year ago
@sparwood8 I would try to explain to you how MUCH is wrong about your comment, but, it's obvious that you are so narrow minded that you'd probably break your brain pan trying to understand.
Shoknifeman 1 year ago
@Shoknifeman narrow mindedness: The buzzword of the Godless left wing. Anything that suggest 'sin' or even the word 'sin' in itself is an offence to you. So why are you even talking to me, if you think I am so numb in the skull?
sparwood8 1 year ago
@sparwood8 Well, since each time I try to talk about my values with people like yourself , all I hear is how I'm "politically correct", then, I feel I have the right to call you RWers Narrow minded...because you are... as for "sin" ; when did I "take offence" to that word? As for your so-called "Christian" ideas, I have nothing against Christians (Both my parents are, for instance); my only beef is Christians who feel that they have to "save" me, or, who try to jam religion into politics.
Shoknifeman 1 year ago
@Shoknifeman Godless politics are what has ruined this country. Eg; a group of high school kids GAVE a a box of chocolates to a teacher. It contained a bible verse. They were suspended for 'speaking religion.' Bringing switchbaldes, and brass knuck's to school is ok, bullying is ok, but even speak the name of Jesus; U R suspended. How far this country has fallen! That teacher should be fired on the spot; but teachers NEVER get fired (teachers r uniion) And U leftists call US 'intolerant'
sparwood8 1 year ago
@sparwood8 While I agree that a suspension was overdoing it (A talking to would have been fine); your country was FOUNDED partly on the seperation of church and state; so, mixing religion and politics is UnAmerican! WHY should the teacher be fired? She has a right not to have religion forced on her; Anyway, if you were to run a country on religion, WHO's religion do you chose? Frankly, the whole idea of basing modern life on a 4000 year old book of fairy tales makes no sense; now, back to Buddy

@danutcase66 Geesh I replied to this but it didn't post. Simply put; I never liked the Beatles (or the Stones, and a lot of other etc)
sparwood8 1 year ago
@sparwood8
danutcase66 1 year ago
@danutcase66 I understand your being puzzled. The Beatles did a lot of things to America that we still don't see yet, and many never will. Not intentionally, but their messages were evil. Subtle, but evil. promoted drug use and it worked to drug down America.. I know they sing about love and etc, but ... aww this is a long story. Too long for here
sparwood8 1 year ago
@sparwood8
I take your point but I think what yoou're saying it harsh. ;)
danutcase66 1 year ago
@danutcase66 Very harsh. I'm even called Old School by the so called 'old school'
Lucy not all that bad a song, but Getting high with a little help from my 'friends' definitely is, and what do you think happens to the Psyche of someone who sings that song to themselves over and over etc?? Anyhow, this is not winnable. Have a nice day
sparwood8 1 year ago
@sparwood8
And you too. ;)
All i'm saying is give The Beatles a chance. Appreciate their music rather than possible obscure messages in their lyrics.
It's actually quite rare but very nice to have this intelligent and well-mannered debate with another intelligent person for a change on Youtube isn'tit? lol.
danutcase66 1 year ago
@danutcase66 Thanks. As for U-Tube/Chat forum arguements; it seems 99% of the hassles are simply pride and vanity run amok. (pointless) . . so I avoid them, but at the same time, can be blunt to a fault.
sparwood8 1 year ago
@danutcase66 dude....the Beatles openly advocated drug use to everyone.....their fucking idol was Timothy Leary.....McCartney gets busted about every 3 years for marijuana ...Ringo was "drunk" for 30 years.....Lennon was strung out on heroine...I am not condemning them.....but I sure in the hell ain't going to say they were model citizens
jmallton 1 year ago
@danutcase66 Well if you contrast them to gangsta rap, heavy metal, death metal... yeah.. they are like choirboys... but they opened the door, so to speak.. also agree that much of their stuff is very soothing.. but still an ounce of cyanide hidden in a gallon of water is still poison
sparwood8 1 year ago
@sparwood8
Yes Buddy Holly along with Chuck Berry and some others are the fathers of Rock 'n' Roll but don't take anything away from those who advanced it to what it is today e.g The Beatles
danutcase66 1 year ago
@sparwood8 The Rolling Stones gladly... the Beatles?... not so sure; i know, let's trade the Stones & Nirvanah for Buddy! (I can't stand either band anyway)

Hottopicwatcha-I appreciate your enthusiasm for Buddy Holly. However, with all due respect, to mention Tupac, a lowlife ghetto criminal, in the same breath as an immortal like Buddy Holly, is ludicrous.
