It seems that live video performance of Mike Bloomfield is as rare as rocking horse sh*t. I can only find this and Drinking Wine. Does anybody know of any more??
@s1914 Check out the website for the museum of broadcast communications chicago, they have this entire Show in their archives, I believe it runs ofr a little over an hour.
@kathyfulmer Because they grew up at a time when the scene was happening in Chicago. Muddy, wolf, Little Walter, Buddy, Hubert Sumlin, Jimmy Reed, Willie Dixon, the list go on and on&on&on. Just like back in the 20's when Benny Goodman's generation grew up in Chicago listening to Louis Armstrong.
Michael's fingering was lightning fast! You really don't appreciate his speed and dexterity unless you see a video of him playing. Thank you for posting this little piece of blues history for all of us to enjoy.
How precious is this? So little video of Michael is available it's sad. Our best hope is that Wolfgang's Vault releases DVDs from the Fillmore and Winterland, but they have been saying they would do that for about 7 years! I am turning my 5 year old daughter onto this kind of music, trying to innoculate her against the Lady Gaga's of the world so she knows REAL music.
@soltisimba WHen I have kids I hope to do the same thing, and hope it doesn't backfire. Good to hear there's someone conditioning their kid(s) with Bloomfield
Thank you so much for posting this. I have been searching high and low for clips of Mike playing lve, this and the "Wine Wine Wine" vids are the only ones I have found so far. MB was one of the best and most influential guitarists that ever lived. His impact is greatly under-appreciated.
And the piano sharing between Pinetop and Dr. John later is interesting too. They manage to fit in Willie Dixon and Koko Taylor into this show too. From what I remember, it was filmed at PBS studios in Chicago. It was part of a series that WTTW did called Soundstage. They used to have the whole archive available for viewing here in Chicago at the Museum of Broadcast Communications. Maybe they still do. There are some great shows in that series
For me, one of the best blues concerts ever put on film. This is some of Mike Bloomfield at his very best. When Johnny Winter and Muddy join them later in the show, it's a true blues summit. This a room full of true blues virtuosos. Since no one has yet mentioned Pinetop Perkins (still rocking audiences in his 90's) and Willie "Big Eyes Smith", I will. Pine is among the finest ever to tickle the ivories and Willie is the most flawless drummer I've ever seen.
The real crime is that Al Kooper and Mike Bloomfield live 1968 was $4.99 (brand new, mind you) at the record store. I believe the new releases run about $15. I'm just as confused as you.

As much as I like this version, it is disadvantaged by the lo-fi sound.
Personal preference on this song is the performance by Baby Huey and the Babysitters which is posted elsewhere.

Jr. Was the whole reason I picked up a harp in the first place. Man he made some great music.
