It is entirely possible that he lost in DKR or met the wrong people, like Krunch. Because of influence and meeting the wrong people, he went downhill from there. After 2 years, he started taking drugs due to the downhill spiral, thus CPT was created. 2 years is a long timeline for a squirrel-continued-

And if he did have drugs, he would've gotten arrested already. He was too young to have drugs during that time.

This game was just amazing for me... it was the best game i have ever played. I also LOVEEEEEED the old storylines of games like these, how theres a few bad guys and the basic objective (racing in this case) is to do the main things (races) and get up to the bosses. Those were the games of pure genius.
